A smiling face greets the worker. “Indeed, we are looking for someone. He goes by Brandt. I believe he has been working for the Canniths in an unofficial manner. He was the one protecting Mr. Sparks during the speech. If you recall him, have you seen him around by chance?” Milo speaks slowly trying to hide his inhales and exhales being winded from the walk.
Bellows scrunches his face up as he thinks: “There was a Cannith here a short while ago, and he spoke with us, and then with a veteran or mercenary type. Not sure if that’s who you’re looking for?”

“Yeah, he had one, but sorry, the two of them split up, with the mercenary... Thia would let out a long drawn out satisfied sigh as she finally put down her calligraphy tools. She’s happy with what work she was able to accomplish this evening. She had the beginning workings of the bag of holding down pat, and an avenue of research for the alchemy jug. “Hmm. Maybe a trip to the library to see my good friend Thaddeus may be in order tomorrow. I can deliver these books back and pick his brain about bags of holdings and alchemy jugs and where I might be able to find some silver thread. But also, I wonder if he might have heard anything about Leo...” she’d ponder out loud while she began tidying up her space. Thia would gently tuck away her blueprints and most recent notes in her bag to make sure she keeps them close to her person.
Finally, she’d grab her jacket off the hangar and make her way over to her bed. Thia would take out her Veiled Valour crest and the thread and needle to place it on her side table before crawling into bed. Once settled in, sitting up in her bed like an old lady getting ready to read herself to sleep, Thia would drape her jacket over her lap and begin her homework, sewing her Veiled Valour crest to her sleeve. She’d be extra careful and take her time through the whole process, making sure she’s meticulous. “Apparently tailoring needs to be added to my repertoire too...” she’d mumble to herself, thinking about the creation of the bag of holding while she sews by hand. Thia would fall asleep just shortly after admiring her final stitch.
"How much are we talking about?" Brandt inquires. Maybe I'll make a breech-loading rifle in the future. Once I've got some more gold from Sparks and have some spare time.

By his interest for Brandt’s rifle, he could imagine that the kobold was likely interested in some sort of technology transfer of sorts. Or maybe a favour he needed Brandt for. Either way, the kobold wasn’t going to give him his trade secrets just like that.

Mendraxes eyed Brandt, a sly look in his eye. "There's this thing you could help me with... since the armistice, business has been slow, and the market is quickly drying up. There are the mercenaries of course, but other than that, only the Broad Street Agency has need for firepower. Unfortunately, a business rival of mine has used his personal connections to ensure a contract, and the Agency is no longer looking for suppliers. Now, if something were to happen to their stores, or the shipment, my rival would fail to meet his contract, and the Agency would be in need of a new supplier. Unless there’s more than one Cannith that fits that description, I think I do. Tarian’s mouth pinched at the sides as she struggled to stifle a laugh. "I can’t say for certain, sir. But the Cannith estate is a much smaller place to search than the Forge district, so we should probably check there first." Tarian looked down at Milo and then back up to the worker. "You’ve been quite helpful. Thank you for the information." Tarian paused a moment. 'Keep up the good work' seems inappropriate for people on strike, and 'have a good day' doesn’t quite work for these folks, either, grim as they are. "Stay strong, and good luck to you," Tarian stated stiffly.
With that, Tarian led Milo around the block in the general direction of the Uptown district.
She laughed. "Mil—ah, Mister Spudsder, I think now is the appropriate time for those fireworks. If this is the Cannith I think he is, he wants to see me. I can ask him about Mister Brandt when I see him." Tarian leaned down to clap Milo on the shoulder. "I should take you on investigations more often: you’re quite the lucky charm." She smirked. "Or charmer, as it were."
Tarian turned toward the general direction of Northward. "Should I head there and ask now?"
“Now you’re talking! That’s right we do work well together. Now our man here did just say they split up, but if you’ve got business with him why don’t we stop by. I hear he is involved in this whole production of Sparks is up to as well. I should introduce myself.” With that Milo pops his collar and lights his pipe. “And Tarian, Milo is just fine.”
“He’s a filthy half-orc, goes by the name of Krathgar. He’s a bruiser, responsible for half the crime in the city, but keeps selling his stock to the Broadsters. The perfect business plan. Well, it’s my opinion that criminals belong in jail, and shouldn’t be rewarded with large contracts. Plus, I’m sure the man might be planning to use his blood ties to get a stake of international trade, by stoking that civil war in Zhivargo.” Mendraxes almost spat out the words, his hatred of Krathgar seeping through almost every syllable of his short reply.

Thia would wake up abruptly, confused. "Did I fall asleep..." She'd mumble to herself, looking around the room. Taking another catnap are we? She'd groan at the sound of her father's chastising echo. Thia would rub any sleep out of her eyes and let out a big sigh before she started making her way out of bed to look out the window. "Maybe there's still some time to make it back to the Golden Gear to check on Corti. I did finish all the tasks I set out to do here..." She'd remember her blueprints and notes she had already tucked away in her bag. Most importantly though, she finished sewing the crest of the Veiled Valour onto her jacket.
With those thoughts, she'd start gearing up to head out, grabbing her crossbow, coat and her bag. She'd admire her coat while it's on for a bit before rushing out the door.
Tarian led Milo through the streets toward Northward as she explained her reasoning for chasing Arc rather than Brandt. “Mister Milo, hunting a man in a city is not unlike hunting a beast in the woods: unless you can actually see what you’re hunting in front of you, the longer your hunt goes on, the more opportunities your prey has to escape. So you have to take every advantage you can to shorten your hunt.”
Tarian hailed a carriage and paid for the fare, requesting that they be taken Northward, and that she would provide further direction when they arrived in the district.
“What we’re hoping to find here, Mister Milo,” Tarian continued, after the carriage lurched forward again, “is either our prey’s den or watering hole. I have a feeling Mister Cannith might know one.” Before Milo could question why, Tarian counted off her reasons. “You said Mister Brandt was protecting Mister Sparks earlier. Now, either Mister Brandt is working with or for Mister Cannith, or he isn’t. One, if he is working with or for Mister Cannith, then Mister Cannith will have some way of contacting him. If he isn’t working with or for Mister Cannith, then, two, either the forge was the last time they would meet, or, three, they will meet again, probably with a designated time or place. Two out of those three options result in Mister Cannith knowing where Mister Brandt can be found. We’ve just got to ask Mister Cannith, and wait for Mister Brandt where he’s sure to show up.”
Tarian peered out the window. “Of course, if Mister Brandt is working for Mister Sparks, and delivered some sort of message from him, if you show up also as a representative of Mister Sparks with either no new information or information that is unrelated, I don’t know how Mister Cannith’d take that. I don’t know if all Canniths are like him, but the one Cannith that I met was rather…” Tarian groped for an adequate word, pursed her lips and stared at the roof of the carriage, “…unaccommodating.”
As the carriage drew onto the smoother streets of Northward, the driver slowed, and Tarian gave him new directions. Once finished, she leaned back in her seat and folded her hands over one knee. “But I’ll leave the choice of whether to meet him to you. You have a better way with words than I do. Maybe he’ll find you more agreeable than he does me.”
A smiling face greets the worker. “Indeed, we are looking for someone. He goes by Brandt. I believe he has been working for the Canniths in an unofficial manner.
