Corti stays quiet as the they talk, absentmindedly nodding at points. As Tarian explains the job, Corti stares off into a corner of the establishment, finally begins to see the reality of what she's doing, This could be the end of avoiding the fighting for me. Darn, I'm too easy to convince. Throw the right thing to do at me and I'm right back in. She would wait for a response to Arc's question before speaking up again, mostly to Tarian. "Would we be meeting with Mr. Sparks again before we set off? I'd hope he has some idea of a plan."

Tarian paused a moment, then hesitantly regarded Arc. Almost sounds like he wants to replace it. That’s an odd bit of kindness, I’d say. No, there’s got to be something more to it than that.
“It was a hunting crossbow.” Tarian held her hands out a little wider than her shoulders. “Not one of those ones you see in town,” she narrowed the gap to about the length from her elbow to the tip of her fingers, “or the military-type,” she waved her hand in the air, indicating the distance from the floor to her waist. “The kind that’s useful for hunting meat while I’m looking for useful reagents in the wild.”
When Corti asked about meeting with Sparks again, Tarian looked to her. “Well, yes, I’d assume so. Mister Spudsder said Mister Sparks needed confirmation that we’d be going. I’d also assume we wouldn’t be able to collect our advances without informing him. Finding him might be another matter, though. I think Mister Spudsder met with him earlier at the Golden Gear, so I might have some idea what he looks like, but I don’t think Sparks is a regular there. I had occasion to look a bit into Sparks recently, but didn’t get far enough to know his whereabouts. Now with Mister Spudsder off on business, well…” Tarian trailed off and shrugged.
She looked to Brandt. “You’ve worked with him before, Mister Brandt. Any ideas how to contact him?”

"Speaking for myself, I can say that I'd like to hear things directly from Sparks. I know what he looks like, but I wouldn't know where to look for him." Thia would nod agreeing with the idea of meeting with Derbert. "If we're throwing out wishlist ideas, I'd like to get my hands on some silver thread."
"Sparks gave me a contact that I could use to get to him. He also told me that he's staying at the Golden Rooster Inn." He raises an eyebrow when Tarian mentions Borrick. "How did you come into contact with that grimy piece of shit?"

“‘Borrick the Blade?’” Tarian shrugged. “Met him during a hostage negotiation. He’s got a penchant for lady fingers. And despite his bad teeth, I don’t mean the dessert.” Tarian raised her left hand to eye level and wiggled her armored fingers. “We had a little disagreement when we last met. He wanted to know who I was working for and I’ve got a freelancer reputation to uphold. He got pretty riled up, so I thought I might be in for a spot of trouble walking in here.” Tarian looked at the ceiling, and at the little lights keeping the bar and gambling areas the same uniform muted light level at all times of day and night. She gestured vaguely all around. “This is his kind of business, you know. What goes on down here and upstairs. Wouldn’t want to run afoul of the butcher again so soon.”
Tarian shook her head. “Anyway,” Tarian looked to both Thia and Brandt, “you two have more experience with Sparks than I do. If we’re taking this job, should we all go, or just one? I wasn’t told what the protocol would be for this.” Tarian raised one hand and covered her face with the other. “No, wait. I suppose I should walk the horse back a pace.” She dropped both hands and looked to everyone in turn, in the order she met them since coming to Duskrock: Corti, Arc, Thia, and Brandt. “Are we all even on board with this mission?”

Thia would slouch in her chair, rubbing her face. She'd pinch her thumb and pointer finger on the bridge of her nose before letting out a sigh. "I can't imagine something like this should be taken on alone. Especially considering the variables we don't know." She'd put her hand down, "I think I still stand on what I said previously, I want to know more. And I have previous commitments I'd have to check in with before leaving for a period of time." Thia would look around the table, resting on Corti's shy smile of agreement before looking back to Tarian, "Though, I think I'd prefer it to be all or nothing. We may need every bit of talent this rag tag group has to offer." Thia knew she was putting up some resistance, but seeing Corti willing to jump in, and remembering her words of wisdom the nights before about bringing some adventure into their lives, Thia was starting to be more open to the idea.
Tarian nodded after Thia said her piece. “Fair enough, Miss Thia. I’ve got some business to attend to before leaving, as well. And with that, the ladies are confirmed, if a bit reluctant.” She looked to Arc and Brandt in turn. “How about the gents? I can’t tell Sparks you’re joining if you aren’t. It would reflect poorly on my employer and on me. I don’t know about Mister Spudsder, but if I lose my reputation, I lose my livelihood.”

Thia would nod at Tarian, appreciating her business understanding. Then she too would look to stare at Brandt and Arc, waiting for either of them to pipe up.
Arc stands and shakes his head, "Any business between Sparks and my family must be done via my father as he is the head of the house. I'm not allowed to risk damaging any possible negotiations by meeting with him at this point in time. Though I thank you for the offer." Arc bows his head slightly, then dusts himself off, "If that is all that is to be discussed for now, I suppose I'd best be off." Looks to Thia and gives a respectful look and slightly warmer look (though still stoic XD), "Lady Thia, it was a pleasure to meet you, feel free to keep the prototype, I've already been thinking on designing a new model, but if you ever feel a idea or desire to speak more regarding such topics, feel free to contact me."
Brandt doesn't say anything in response to Arc, but he does scoff. Of course the rich kid needs Daddy's permission to do anything. "I can do it, if Sparks is really paying us to do this for him."

Arc’s response to the job caused Thia’s brow to raise, though she was not surprised by his response. Then why sit through this whole meeting? What’s his agenda? She’d return his look with a polite head bow and smile, as she’s accustomed to do, “Thank you Arc. I will be happy to keep the prototype for study and inspiration. I will keep that in mind. Please do the same if you feel the need for my skills, research collaboration or the Veiled Valour.” She’d offer her hand for another business like shake. If he were to take her hand, she’d shake normally except at the tail end she’d hang on a little longer with intent (nothing malicious, he can pull away if he wants) “If this business was of no interest to you, why stay to hear it out? What are you hoping to achieve for yourself? And I don’t mean your family.” She’d glance to look at Corti and back to Arc. “You brought your uncle today. Not your father, who you stated handles business.” What’s his motive? Thia’s head would tilt with curiosity.
Taking THia's hand, he also returns the shake. However, Arc, upon hearing Thia's words, has his grip tighten ever slightly, for a moment. He then stares intently at Thia, as if gaging her intention. His own blue eyes staring though her as if looking at something deeper. "....My Uncle requested that he have a chance to meet with Corti, so I did as he asked. As for what I want my Lady, it's a common dream. I stayed because I had some hope to hear something that'd help that dream." His gaze looks to each of those present, before returning to Thia, "And while I didn't find what I was hoping for, I did meet you my lady. So this wasn't a wasted effort." He finally releases his hand and looks to everyone else, "Any more questions?"
"Is your father going to get upset about you being here?" Brandt jokes, very clearly enjoying poking fun at the young nobleman and the fact that he still has to do what his father tells him to.
Corti stands and watches the interaction with slight apprehension. Giving a brief, confused glance at Brandt for his jabs, she speaks up, smiling at Arc “It’d be nice to have your company if you change your mind,”

Tarian flicked her hand out as though tossing a thought into the wind. “I’ve worked for a good number of people in Duskrock, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned—”
Tarian could hear the counter from Arc in her head: ‘And if there’s two things you’ve learned, I’d be surprised.’
“—It’s that the higher a position you’re in, the less freedom you have. Politicians, businessmen, nobility—everybody at the top has someone they have to answer to if they want to do anything. That truth is what keeps free folks like myself employed.”
Tarian stood, and straightened her surcoat. “But with Mister Brandt, Spudsder aside, we’ve got four confirmed.” Tarian nodded to Arc. “I can report to Mister Sparks we have a potential fifth, with whom we are still trying to make arrangements. If you like, you could use this opportunity to... ‘do an extended observation… of the unit.’” Tarian’s expression soured as she spoke and tilted her head toward Corti. The words felt distasteful, like they would leave a wretched film in her mouth just by uttering them.
“I believe we’re mostly all acquainted with the Golden Gear. Should we all meet there tomorrow so I can report back on Sparks’s response? That should give everyone time to take care of what business they have, and perhaps collect traveling supplies if you need them. I know I’d like a few things if I’m to be traveling in this weather.” Tarian looked to everyone with her palm upturned, ready to receive answers.

Thia's straight face would curl into a smirk, "That's cryptic. Fair enough." She'd nod, accepting the half answers she was given, releasing her hand as well. She'd go to open her mouth to speak again, but in came Brandt's quip, followed by Corti's encouragement and Tarian's summary. Thia would simply smile and gesture to the others, "There's an open invite if you do change your mind." She'd lean in towards him to speak softly, like a whisper, as if reciting a quote from memory, her eyes looking off into the distance, "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live." Thia would pull back, pick up the prosthetic hand and tuck it away safely in her bag. She'd look to Tarian, "I think that's fair Tarian. As you said, it will give time to handle business and secure any supplies." She'd start looking around, trying to gauge what time of day it was. Am I going to have to run home in the dark? Or should I just stay here the night?

Out of everything that's been said between the two bars, that's what makes him pipe up? Thought Thia, raising her own eyebrow.
