Iz has a smirk on her face as she stands in front answering telepathically, "Or we could just play it my way and smash the opponent's hand the first time, make them think twice about slapping the cards again..."she spares a moment to glance up at Harmony.
Abraxas looks at the statue, the six goblins, his four colleagues. He looks back at the statue, remembers the stories he has read about young mages who wander too far alone. He finds the eyes of the goblin who said he would be watching him. Abraxas shrugs. "Changed my mind," he says. He stays to watch the game.
Telepathically again, Jove speaks to the group. "Iz, don't get me wrong. I want to smash some hands as well. I am really jumpy with this new world. I am more than ready to blast some fools. But I think making some friends could also be a good idea. Harmony can play the goblin game and then if things go awry, I will give you the go ahead to smash as many fingers as you can." (AKA give a bardic inspiration to Iz if things go awry. If I can hold a bonus action or something like that?)
Harmony sits across from the goblins' chosen player as the cards are dealt. The first game takes around 10 minutes as the participants measure each others' bluffing ability and speed. Harmony holds her own for the majority of the game, until a series of strategic plays from the goblin empties her hand. The goblins let out hoots and hollers as the goblin woman playing the game grins at Harmony. "That was a good first attempt, but I'm not about to let a newcomer beat me at my own game," she taunts.
The cards are dealt once more. This time, Harmony clears her opponent's hand in under two minutes. The chatter from the goblins stops, until their player comments, "I wouldn't have enjoyed this as much without playing a third game, you know. I had to let you win one." The whooping and taunting continues from her companions - until Harmony wins the third game in just under three minutes.
Sweat pours from the goblin woman's face as she chokes out, "I...think she's using magic or something, there's no way!"
Iz steps up to the table squinting at the goblin woman as she looks her up and down, "I didn't notice any magic being used." She looks to the other goblins, "did you?" Roxy caws menacingly from Iz's shoulder, staring the goblins down.
"Well, okay then," Abraxas says. "It's decided. Harmony gets the statue and you all get to leave. Those are the rules." He smiles and gestures back toward the goblin camp.
Harmony had heard as Isabella talked about smashing the goblin's hand, thinking that wouldn't be such a good idea. She soon listened as Jove talked about how making friends would be a good idea, that she will play the game and if things go south, then Isabella can smash fingers. She nodded in agreement before declaring that she would play the game, sitting across from the goblin game. During the first game, she was doing alright at first, realizing that this was about bluffing and speed until the goblin woman ended up winning. She didn't let the taunt get to her, now knowing how the game works as they went into the second match. Harmony was able to win with incredible ease, smiling before the goblin talked about wanting to play a third game and having let her win. She giggled and nodded as they then played a third time and she had won almost as easily again, clapping. "Yay, I won! That was fun!" she exclaimed as she grinned, having won two of the three games. But she was shocked when the goblin woman accused her of cheating and using magic, shaking her head. "I would never cheat! I won fair and square! Good game though." Harmony had said back to them with a pout before smiling again as she showed good sportsmanship.
A couple of the goblins mutter their complaints, and the goblin who lost to Harmony glares, but they are quieted by the goblin who proposed the deal originally.
"Okay, fine. You beat us in a game with your hands, but can you do the same with your legs? We will see who can jump the longest; you pick three of you, and we will pick three of us. If two of you can beat us, we will leave for good."
Isabella smiles again. "Well, that wasn't the deal, but I'd be hard pressed to pass up a jumping contest." She draws a line in the dirt, then motions. "From here then, after you."
Once again using his best goblin voice, "Hmm. Iz seems up to it. However, that ain't part of the deal. A goblin is only as good as his word. If you's changing the rules, that means you ain't good goblins."
He pauses. "But we can wipe the floor with you no matter what. Iz, show 'em how far those legs can take you." He gives Iz a 1d6 bardic inspiration die.
The goblins chortle at Jove's remarks. "Nobody can beat me at Skunkpaw Slap without magic, or tricks. This way we can beat you fair and square," the goblin woman who lost to Harmony comments. The goblins choose their jumpers, who begin limbering up and stretching. "I see only two. Who is your third?" the leader asks.
Tracking: Isabella has bardic inspiration (d6) for 10 minutes.
Harmony pouted as now the goblins wanted to beat them in a game of who can jump the longest, three on three. She was not happy at all when the female goblin said that no one could have beaten her at Skunkpaw Slap without using magic or tricks, wanting to beat them fair and square. "I did not use magic or any tricks! I totally beat you fair and square, you guys are just being sore losers. I'll jump then and have to beat you fair and square again." Harmony said back before declaring herself as the third jumper alongside Isabella and Olive. She knew that she wasn't exactly in the best outfit to be jumping in with her long skirt though. So she hiked up her skirt and pinned it to make it easier to move and jump, wanting to really win now. "Come on Olive, we can do this!" she cheered her fellow friend on with a smile, giving her a 1d8 bardic inspiration die.
"We do have our three players! One, two, three!" Jove counts while pointing to Olive, Iz, and Roxy. "I never knew goblins who are such sore losers. First you claim we cheated. Now you won't accept our contestants. I think you were the one casting spells, you seem to be casting blame all of a sudden!"
"We take a running start, then leap. One person from each side who is not jumping will mark the landing spot," a goblin explains.
Isabella takes off first, her small legs pumping as she charges toward the starting line. Though she moves slower than most of the taller creatures among the shadow of the Ice Basilisk, and it looks like her speed will only carry her a few feet past the line, she leaps with perfect form. Her well-trained muscle launches her nearly 20 feet from the line, her body twisting for momentum as she thrusts her feet forward to create as much distance as possible, leaving the goblins gaping in disbelief. The goblin jumper comes up at least 5 feet short, creating groans and shouts among the goblins. "Come on, look at how small she is! How could you let her embarrass you?"
"Alright, me first this time. Watch and learn," another goblin exclaims. Circling around the base of the Ice Basilisk, he takes an even longer running start, but he comes up just short of the first goblin's mark, sheepishly rejoining his companions as he waits for his opponent.
Olive feet fall in a graceful pattern as she follows Isabella's form. Though her jump isn't as powerful, her longer legs nearly carry her as far, clearing the second goblin's jump by a couple of feet.
"Aw, come on! That wasn't even close! What's wrong with us? No fair!"
The disappointed shouts from the goblins settle after a moment. Their leader begrudgingly motions to Harmony. "Well, we may as well try and win one of the jumps before we go," he says, shaking his head.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Harmony was confused as Jove said that Roxy was the third jumper, knowing that a bird could not compete. She listened as they have to take a running start and then leap, Isabella going first. She was amazed, cheering for Isabella as she saw how far the other got and had beaten the first goblin. "That was perfect!" she had said to her, watching the second goblin and seeing that they didn't beat the first goblin's mark. Now she watched Olive go, easily beating the second goblin's jump by a few feet. "Awesome, we have this won!" Harmony cheered happily, knowing that now she didn't have to worry about if she lost. She had heard the goblin leader, nodding back as she decided to focus more on having fun than winning as she took her running start and leap.
Iz has a smirk on her face as she stands in front answering telepathically, "Or we could just play it my way and smash the opponent's hand the first time, make them think twice about slapping the cards again..." she spares a moment to glance up at Harmony.
