As you wind up to swing your axe (just like in your gif) the rodent skitters to the side and barrel rolls out of the way. Instead of cleaving the rat in two as you would expect you strike thin air. The momentum and weight of the axe striking nothing causes you to lose your balance and topple to the ground. You land on your butt with a loud "thud" and the rodent stops, looks back at you with its beady little eyes, and seems to snicker, before escaping into the debris pile near the south wall.
Grom grunts and straps his axe to his back.. Brushes off himself and says... "Alten these DAMN RATS NEED TO GO!" Fire bolt on the debris pile

Attack: 11 Damage: 5
The fiery molt smashes into the debris pile scorching the stones and leaving them charred black, but you see no sign of the rats demise. The giant rat (which has full cover) will use its movement to dig deeper into the debris pile, then use its action to hide.
Edit: Have to post the stealth roll in a new comment.
Talien, reentering the room, looks for the rat in the light of the blast
Perception Roll :7
Moves over and attacks at the (Debris Blindly or Rat if he see's it)
Blind attack (with disadvantage due to not being able to see the target) Attack: 21 Damage: 7
Attack at normal roll Attack: 15 Damage: 10
(Looks like I probably hit him with the disadvantage roll) (here comes 4 more xp)
As far as you can tell the rat remains hidden in the rubble. You swing your sword mightily, but it does not meet with flesh. Instead it strikes the stone debris causing sparks to fly outward into the darkness.
Rats fit into places you can't reach Talien. There's probably a crack or hole underneath the rubble. Just let it be and lets move on. They are only coming out when we disturb them. If you start tearing it apart, you may drive more out to attack you.
{Remember "giant" rats are still small creatures, only one size up from a regular rat, which is tiny}
Why dont we allow him to do that if he wants the rest of us can go back and work on that other door..
Do to my previous detect magic walk this other door had no known magical lock correct?
The only place you detected magic was the dragon door. Nothing else gave off magic vibes. Grom.. this might be a good time for a history check [DC 10] to see if you recall anything about the citadel that you may have learned while staying with the Hucrele‘s.

You pop your head into the dragon door room just in time to see Grom fall onto his backside.

Stealth: 9. If you want to continue looking for the rat make a perception check.
Edit: DC 9.
"Grom? You alright?" Rees asks, moving further into the room. "Did you say rats? There are more rats?" She squints in the direction of the debris pile
Perception: 4
Edit: "I don't see any rats"

Rees says as she steps in the remains of the half eaten rat.
Does the rest of the party hear any of this commotion?
Perception 22
If so, Talien will move back into the other room, drawing his sword as he makes his way in.
Warforged Fighter Talien
You hear the commotion and walk into the room in time to see the southern part of the room light up from a blast of molten fire.
Alten stops clearing the barred door, picks up his glaive and heads back towards the commotion.
What the hells?

DM Note: Your perception roll wasn’t enough to find the giant rat which now has total cover in the debris pile.
(Ouch, cant hit a rat with a 21. And the 21 was with a disadvantage) :(

That lil bugger got away... I did chop off his tail tho that should teach him to not come back....

Sorry mate, it was a great roll, but total cover.
Do you guys stay in the dragon door room, or do you want to try the other door?
Can we tear the room apart? Talien does not like possible enemies at his back.
Talien will start moving rubble and tossing it into the hole with the goblins, along with the already dead giant rat.

That would take hours even if you all helped. A lot of the southern wall is crumbled and fallen in.
