well we obviously don’t agree on what this wand is worth to you and how Valuable 14 days of time is worth to all of us. There is a lot of us here my friend and I think 3000 split between us sounds more like a deal we can accommodate to my friend. It’s going to cost us time and resources to get this job done I am assuming and 2000 split 6 ways does not qualify as being payed well for such a long and difficult job.
or if You would like to make a deal I’m sure we could work out something for you. 300 gold up front for us so we can buy food and supplies and 1500 on delivery of your magic wand. I am sure we could accommodate that for you if that suits you better my friend.
I'm sorry, but "adjust the sum" seems an inadequate term for a contract. What kind of difference are we talking about on day 10 versus day 15 or 20.
Also, do you have a map of any sort? Someone to guide us to this Citidal. What can you tell us about it. I, for one, don't believe I'm very familiar with it.

With a bored look Carlisle drains his mug of ale, “I am not in the habit of negotiating my dear friends... If you do not like my terms, I can find others more willing to do the job. I will say though.. do well in this endeavor and deliver on what I ask and there will be more opportunities with greater rewards.. alas you have not proved yourselves to me yet and I am unwilling to discuss these affairs.”
”As for the location of the citadel.. it is a mere stones throw away from here located due south in the foothills below Mount Hotenow. The old road takes you there through the Ashen Plane. The Sunless Citadel itself is partially buried, but not difficult to find.. as you may have heard it plunged into the earth when Mount Hotenow erupted.”
You have heard the same rumors as everyone else and don’t recall any additional information.
OOC - what are the "same rumors as everyone else"?
That people go into the citadel and don’t return.. Grom may have some more info on that.. remember back to his proposition. Talien also relayed some info on goblins... but didn’t pull that thread all the way yet.
don’t think of it as negotiating, you should be thinking of it as convincing. If this wand is truly as great as you say and you offer us so little? Who is to say someone else might not make our, how would you say, time well spent? We are risking our lives for a meager reward and a down payment might convince us it is more important to deliver it to you instead of keeping it. We are strangers after all and a good show of faith from you would spark a good show of faith in return. But without a fair reward or show of faith , I can not and will not promise we will return if we find out we could benefit better without returning to you. But if you don’t want to discuss it then I can only promise I will go looking for the wand and nothing else as of yet. As I said our definitions of well payed could be very different.
Speaking only for myself, I'm an honest servant of Torm. Should I agree to take your job, you will have my honest, best effort.
I do not know any of these others, so I don't intend to cast aspersions on anyone's character. I ask this of you Mr. Bozack, as a business man. Have you a contract of terms we are expected to sign? What stops one or more of this group from simply going to find this wand and whatever else is down there and keeping it all, or selling to someone else?
I also believe it is typical to -"stake" I believe is the word - a party "earnest" money for equipment and supplies for an acquisition mission.
Persuasion:15 (if advantage because of assistance from Chatra's in trying to negotiate, 2nd roll is 20

Be this your magic stick? Did someone steal this from you? Tailen says with his voice raised (not a yell as he doesn't exactly yell (see spoiler)) and his eyes start to slowly turn from green to red, and alters back and forth between the two. There seems to be a lot of stealing going on around here.... Talien says before anyone can answer or say anything, eyes turning fully red. (Even though he was the one everyone was keeping the eye on for stealing)
(his voice just gets louder as if the volume is turned up on a radio so there is not a stressed effect to his tone)
Carlisle’s expression visibility darkens as he says, “Hold your tongue halfling.. you are a mere word away from impertinence. As I previously stated, I do not negotiate. I do not come to terms, make contracts, or concede. I am a simple purveyor of rare artifacts and I will admit that this is not yet my wand.. I believe it should not fall into the wrong hands and were you to recover it and try to sell it to another party I would simply have Vim and Vau here retrieve it from you for me by force if necessary.”
“As for funds up front... should you perish in the citadel.. how will I recover my investment?”
like I said I promised I would get the wand. But be sure of this one thing though. Your threat of your friends mean nothing to me because if they were as powerful as you are pretending them to be. You would already possess this wand you desire instead of having to resort to finding skilled individuals as us to do it for You.
He then grabs some ale and gulps it, making himself seem vulnerable Just to show he is not intimidated by the stranger or his bodyguards.

Talien stands and grasps his 2-handed great sword in one hand, pointing it at Carlisle. Answer me human, IS THIS YOUR MAGIC STICK!? Or did someone STEAL it from you?! His red eyes seem to be staring straight through Carlisle, and everyone seems to tense at the sudden anger from the massive Warforged.
Grabbing the glaive, standing up and moving between Talien and the human, afraid the Warforged is going to do something uncalled for
Easy! Calm yourself! I don't know about where you come from, but here, not everything belongs to someone. Some things are available to be taken without it being "stealing". Sit down please.
If Talien calms down/backs down/sits down. He turns back to Bozack
Clearly, he's new to the area. In an attempt to lighten the moment.
No disrespect intended, but if your associates are that good, why not have them retrieve the wand?
As to recovering your investment - I've often heard it said that it takes money to make money. Plus, you increase your odds of success by having a well prepared and equipped party working for you. And finally, as a famous philosopher of another land, whose name escapes me at the moment, once said 'it rarely pays to be penny wise but pound foolish'.
However, if those are your terms, that is what they are. As we seem to be the party at hand, if you would excuse us a moment, so that we may discuss amongst ourselves?

Taking a deep breath, Rees added, “My apologies, sir. Obviously, we are eager, but in order to get this item back for you in the timely manner you seek, we could use some supplies, Chatra is not wrong on that front. Your investment in us up front, should you be willing, will help us secure the item and get you what you seek more quickly that's all. You have no reason to trust us as of yet, so I do understand your hesitance. As Alten said, please allow us a moment to discuss amongst ourselves but I personally have no issues with your proposal."
(If needed: persuasion20 if advantage because of Alten 2nd roll is 5 )
Chatra laughs and it is really loud and awkward coming from such a tiny halfling
see, told you your goliaths over there. They aren’t as scary as my friends and I.
and then he goes back to chugging his ale as if even with his guard down the stranger and his goliaths would be no match for the 6 heroes at the table.
Carlisle remains poised, but a vein on his temple begins to throb and as he wraps his gloved fingers against the table he says, “My reasons for not sending Vim and Vau to recover this artifact are my own.. you have not earned my confidence yet and as such are not privy to such information nor would you be unless I decided so! But, think on this... this is not my wand.. nor was it stolen... It is simply a lost relic rumored to be within the citadel.. if it is not there why would I waste my time and own resources to recover it? My offer still stands at 2,000 gold — and now your lives may depend on accepting my terms and your own circumstances. Confer with one another, but do not keep me waiting for too long.”

While listening to Chatra negotiate, Alten would like to search his memory for what he might know about the Sunless Citidal.
