The Greyblock is a tavern turned barracks for the purpose of preparing the Grey Hands Initiates.
It is situated almost at the center of the city,
It has been nearly a month now that you have joined up with this apparatus of Waterdeep justice system. A week training with the City Guard and walking the walls and three weeks trailing and learning the roads of Waterdeep' Wards with the City Watch. You have all learned a lot about the inner workings of the Guard and the Watch and gathered that though they call upon the Grey Hands when they need it they aren't thrilled with your presence.
For now the sun is setting and you are gathered once more in the tavern feet sore and in need of some food.
The Grey is a typical tavern two stories high, it has a common room with an hearth, a large kitchen behind the bar and a area for bathing just under the stairs leading to the second floor where the rooms are. Each f the 7 rooms have several beds. The latrine are in the small paved courtyard behind the tavern along with some recently added training dummies.
// Time for a small description of your characters then it's on to your first cases.//
Kwisatz Haderach is an older gnome. He's been studying most of his life in libraries around the Coast, but has been in Waterdeep for a while now. Imagine a gnome with mostly grey, mussed up 'bernie sanders' style hair. He has a white Raven on his shoulder, and always seems to be in a hurry.
Walking into the barracks after the long day of walking he'll see the training dummies, and ask whoever was leading them around "Right! That's great for the big physical types... where is the library here?" all the while grabbing bites of bread or snacks and shoving them into his mouth, as if he hasn't time to sit down and relax.
Sitting in the table next to the fire the half-elf woman take off her feathered hat and let her red bucles of hair move freely. She wores a white shirt under a brown leahter trousers with a pair of traveled leather boots, that she takes off and makes a relief sound when do so.
To her side rest a rapier and in the table there is her most precious possesion, a well cared violin and its arc.
She smiles back to the gnome and say
"The library is two districts away I am afraid, but if you bring the books here you can find a couple of nice spots to read "
Kwiz throws up his arms and replies "gah! What force hasn't a library?! I guess that's why they need me. I'll have to start a collection here. In the mean time I do always have something of my own of course." He will then walk over to a table in the corner, pull out a book and start reading; the white raven on his shoulder watching everyone enter and find their own places.
Umdrak Burrowfound sits on a stool a the bar swirling one of the offered drinks. Not sure of where they get their supply of beer but if they just add some citrus during the fermenting they would get a better taste. Taking another sip from his glass the old looking dwarf looks around at the other Grey Hands. Umdrak is completely bald and although he is middle-aged for a dwarf, living in the wilderness was not kind to his appearance and the long white beard did not help.
Hearing the others talking he tries not to butt in, as his comments always seemed to come across as outdated, but after being alone for so long he enjoyed the conversation with others. "Instead of burying your nose in a book get out in the world. You will find you will learn more by living life." Pulling out an arrow from his quiver he examines the fletching and makes sure the shaft is true.
Hearing the dwarf speaking to him Kwisatz will first hold up a hand signaling 'please wait' and will finish his sentence. Then putting a slip of paper on the page before closing the book he'll respond "Who has time to go out? Give me a good library and I can find anything I about" with a slight shudder "living in the wild. But to each his own... How's the beer?"
He'll then cast mage hand and send it over to grab a pint and bring it back to take a sip, before opening his book again.
Alton Burrows is a rather plain looking halfling with dark brown hair and blue eyes, looking to be in his mid 20s He has a somewhat serious demeanor about him and acts as though he has been in some sort of group like the Grey Hand before. Those that had been around him during the last month or so would have noticed he already seemed familiar with the city and was on a first name basis with several watch members. There had even been questions of why he himself had left after serving with them for almost half a decade or more.
He sits at a table in the back with a large plate of food in front of him, seeming to still have the same love of food that many other halflings do. As he eats he will scan his eyes over the other initiates, seeming to gauge each of them for several seconds before going back to his meal. "Maybe you should go and look for the library but it would be best if you did not go alone if it is night. Your best bet is to map out the path of the watch and to travel on the roads where they regularly patrol. But then again learning the city better alone is also a good idea since we never know when we might be separated on an assignment."
A half-elven woman with red hair tied in a braid joins the dwarf at the bar, dressed in travelling clothes of an elven design. Other than a light crossbow, she has no visible weapons. She nods at the other half-elf, then orders two drinks. Drinking one down quickly she looks at the glass and shrugs, “I’ve drunk worse.” She nudges the dwarf next to playfully, a hint of good natured laughter in her voice, “Awww, be nice to the bookworm, it’s quicker to learn from someone else’s knowledge than muddle along finding out everything by yourself. Trust me.” She grabs a plate of food sits at a table close to the other half-elf, carrying her second drink with her.
There is a large splashing noise followed by a giggle coming from beneath the stairs. The bathing area, lit by dim candles, lies mostly in shadow. A young jade-skinned tiefling woman looks embarrassed as she hurries out of the front door, drenched and covering herself in a couple of bathing towels.
Following soon after is Sebastien - or Seb to his friends -, a lithe and handsome young human with shoulder-length black hair who can't have more than 25 years under his belt. Similarly drenched, he is naked except for a long, white towel around his waist, and he bears a huge grin as he climbs out of the shade from beneath the stairs. He swaggers over to the bar and takes a seat on a stool across from the dwarf, the light from a lantern reflecting on his silver tooth.
"Navy rum with a touch of syrup please, John." He calls to the barkeep in his low honeyed voice whilst rolling a coin across his knuckles. The barkeep shakes his head at the obviously wrong name, but brings the small drink over nonetheless. "Now now, don't forget the lime wedge." The man says with a wink and a smile.

He chuckles to himself, finishes his drink and taps the edge of the bar as he gets up. Now that he's dry, he heads off to his quarters to change back into his clothes.

There is a loud whinny of a horse otuside and some shouting, a moment later the doors open and a Human male, about 25, with a scruffy beard and brown hair that looks like it is growing out from shaved, walks in. He is wears no armour and his jerkin has no sleeves, but carries a quaterstaff and a shortsowrd on his back. Crash blinks in the change in light and smiles Bloody horse has a temper and I still can't get used to there being a sky up there instead of more rocks! He sees Seb in a towel at the bar and grins Good to see you're actually wearing something this time Seb! Last time nearly put me off my prawns!
He walks up to the bar that Seb has just left and orders a fire water and takes a sip.
Krizarith smiles at the exchange between Xanaphia and Seb while she tunes her violin.
"I know a bath house where we can go after our next shift if you want " she says to her " They prepare you the water just before you get into the thub. And they have some lavanda and jasmine salts that are simply delicious."
Xanaphia smiles back at Krizarith, “That does sound divine. Hot, scented water is just the thing when you’ve spent all day on your feet.” She stretches slightly, still sat down.

He strides over to the bar again and takes a seat next to Crash. "You're pushing the boat out aren't you?" He nods to the man's drink as he orders his own. Idozu has been sitting at the bar for a while, working on his third plate of food and drinking from the largest tankard he could find. A wall of a half orc, with a large belly. A blue hue to his skin and black hair twisted into large braids fall down his back. Holding a rib bone in hand and his tankard in the other. Anyone paying attention could see his grip tighten at the sight of the spectral hand floating across the tavern before he lets it relax, taking a deep breath. Finishing his meal, he wipes off his chin. Taking his quarterstaff out to the training yard to Alton “Training is usually better when you have someone to spar with.”
Seb takes the drink and thanks Crash. "Any idea when Ironman is back? I'm itching to knock some heads together and my purse is itching to be filled." He phrases the question towards his friend, but speaks loud enough for the others sat at the bar to hear him. He leans back on the stool and props his feet on another, awaiting the scalding for using the sergeant's least favourite moniker.

Xanaphia finishes her food and knocks back the last of her drink, fiddling and twirling the fork between her fingers absentmindedly. Then she gives Krizarith a cheeky look before turning back to look towards the bar and call out, barely stifling a giggle, “Did your tiefling friend cost that much, Sebastien? Never would have thought you were the type to pay for it.”
