Joetaro glances at the various villagers holding torches, before turning to the sky and praying to Selune once more. He was intrigued by the mists and new land. "You said Vistanti? So you're not the same as Barovians?"

"Look, we best discuss such tings' at the camp. Madame Eva will be dere' and she will do all the explaining dat' you need."
The tension you felt in the city is slowly replaced with the sudden realization that you are stuck in a strange land, with strange people. The road slowly disappears and is replaced by a mud and cobblestone road similar to the one you were on before you entered the bizarre town. The scenery here is perpetually dark. A dead dog on the side of the road. A child's lost doll, eyes missing and arm torn. An old wooden gallows creaks in a chill wind that blows down from the high ground to the west. A frayed length of rope dances from its beam. The well-worn road splits here, and a signpost opposite the gallows points off in three directions: Barovia Village to the east, Tser Pool to the northwest, and Ravenloft/Vallaki to the southwest. The northwest fork slants down and disappears into the trees, while the southwest fork clings to an upward slope. Across from the gallows, a low wall, crumbling in places, partially encloses a small plot of graves shrouded in fog.
You continue your trek through the bleak landscape when you hear a creaking noise behind you, coming from the gallows. Where there was nothing before now hangs a lifeless, gray body. The breeze turns the hanged figure slowly, so that it can fix its dead eyes upon you.
For Jojo's eyes only:
You see your own dead body in the gallows. It looks and smells exactly like a real corpse. When it's dead eyes meet yours it's like looking into a mirror. You actually feel drawn to the corpse like a magnet. Roll a will save in a PM to me...

Ander nods in aggrement and mutters something under his breath taking out some leather while making hand movements over it. A shimmering barrier appears around him.

Wasted nat 20 but at least not a 1. The wild magic surge of a fireball centered on myself would cause a tpk right now
Joetaro turns to the various imagery, his heart weeps for the dog and the vision of the hanged man scares him as a hollow feeling fills his stomach. He reaches out to it.
He sees the corpse in his image and a wave of depression falls over him. He reaches out before praying to Selune to keep his thoughts together, remembering her one command to him "Live."

You see the light turn off in Jojo's eyes briefly as his body tries to stand, as if the corpse is pulling him in, but after a few long blinks he goes back to normal.
The road gradually disappears and is replaced by a twisted, muddy path through the trees. Deep ruts in the earth are evidence of the comings and goings of wagons.
The canopy of mist and branches suddenly gives way to black clouds boiling far above. There is a clearing here, next to a river that widens to form a small lake several hundred feet across. Five colorful round tents, each ten feet in diameter, are pitched outside a ring of four barrel-topped wagons. A much larger tent stands near the shore of the lake, its sagging form lit from within. Near this tent, eight unbridled horses drink from the river.
The mournful strains of an accordion clash with the singing of several brightly clad figures around bonfire. A footpath continues beyond this encampment, meandering north between the river and the forest’s edge.
Standinir halts the wagon train and calls back to you, "Alright, here we are. Make yourself at home, after all, for a Vistani, home is wherever the wine flows!" he lets out a cheerful laugh. "There is Madame Eva," he says as he motions to the larger tent. "You're welcome to warm yourself by the fire and grab some food though. Best not to see the Madame on an empty stomach." He laughs again as a very light rain begins to sprinkle your armor.
Ander will go to the fire to get food, putting off seeing Madam Eva until the others are ready, trying to make small talk with random Vistani to hopefully find out information about madam Eva. Persuasion 9
Joetaro walks out of the wagon, still shaken by what he saw earlier. He watches the villagers somewhat shy at first because he takes a breath, whispers a prayer to Selune, then followers Ander's lead and makes small talk with Vistani.

He turns to Glimra and nods. "I saw something I brought me chills. That corpse in the gallows, it had my face. It looked like me and for a moment I wanted to join it . I'm starting to believe the man and that this land might be cursed. I will go find food." He begin to walk away before turning to Glimra and says "Thank you for asking, Glimra. It means a lot."
Joetaro goes and finds food, declining wine saying he will have some later.

Uanstaer decides it's probably best to leave Jojo be for a little while. He instead stead pulls out his panflute, and plays a tune to mach the accordian's song.
Glimra gave Joetaro a weak smile and leaned against a wagon, she drew her blade and inspected it for nicks...she had a sinking feeling that she would be using it shortly.....and be dead shortly after that.....
You make small talk with the rabble for a bit, enjoying the warmth of the fire. They all begin telling stories, some fun, others full of otherworldly terror. The juxtaposition of the two leaves you feeling a bit off balance. There is a slight lull in the conversation when one woman speaks up. She is dresses in colorful silken clothes and adorned with brass and gold jewelry. "So you want to hear a tale?" She steps closer to the fire and begins telling you her story in a commanding voice.
"A mighty wizard came to this land over a year ago. I remember him like it was yesterday. He stood exactly where you’re standing. A very charismatic man, he was. He thought he could rally the people of Barovia against the devil Strahd. He stirred them with thoughts of revolt and bore them to the castle en masse. When the vampire appeared, the wizard’s peasant army fled in terror. A few stood their ground and were never seen again.
“The wizard and the vampire cast spells at each other. Their battle flew from the courtyards of Ravenloft to a precipice overlooking the falls. I saw the battle with my own eyes. Thunder shook the mountainside, and great rocks tumbled down upon the wizard, yet by his magic he survived. Lightning from the heavens struck the wizard, and again he stood his ground. But when the devil Strahd fell upon him, the wizard’s magic couldn’t save him. I saw him thrown a thousand feet to his death. I climbed down to the river to search for the wizard’s body, to see if, you know, he had anything of value, but the River Ivlis had already spirited him away.”
Glimra stood, " Wait a gods-damn minute! Now your 'poor cursed prince' is a spell-wielding VAMPIRE who casts down archmages?!".
She looked at the other three carefully, " We barely saw off those bandits last season and now we're trapped in the worlds worst valley ruled by a vampire and full of insane people and creatures....what the actual hell?"
Joetaro listens to the tale and tilts his head. "I am going to assume the wizard was not the first one to try and defy this devil Strahd, nor will he be the last. It doesn't sound like we have a choice to leave this place. Perhaps we should go speak with Madame Eva."
Joetaro is going to walk to Madame Eva's tent, he is going to use Divine Sense.
OOC: Sorry I'm having trouble using the Tool Tip for that
Uanstaer goes up to Glimra, suprised by her somber mood breaking with sudden outburst. "We might not be as powerful as an archmage, but there are four of us. In my experience, it's always better to have a team. Even if we don't lay this vampire to rest, he'll have a hell of a time killing us. And Joetaro is right, we should talk to Madam Eve, we're going to need all the guidance we can get."
As you approach the tent you feel a strange sensation deep in your gut, and a voice cracks from inside, "Glimra, Uanstaer, Jojo, and Ander. I have been expecting you. Do come in, do come in." As you enter you see Magic flames casting a reddish glow over the interior of this tent, revealing a low table covered in a black velvet cloth. Glints of light seem to flash from a crystal ball on the table as a hunched figure peers into its depths. As the crone speaks, her voice crackles like dry weeds. “At last you have arrived!” Cackling laughter bursts like mad lightning from her withered lips. "I can see your future... would you like me to show you? And, not like those pathetic little Tarot cards you have Uanstaer. I'm sure you feel right at home. You as well Jojo, though maybe in a different way." She lets out a bellowing cackle and begins shuffling a deck of mysterious cards.
OOC:
Hey guys, I'm leaving for camping tomorrow and will have spotty wifi at best. So, if the game slows over the weekend, just know that I haven't abandoned you! This has been a really fun game so far. Good job!
" I've seen my future too, you mad old bint, its me lying dead with my guts ripped out somewhere in this rathole of a place you call a Barovia.", Glimra shot at her.
" Tell me I'm wrong."
