Hox tilts his head, "Hox...take many things. He took shinies, he took pieces, he also take wood. Are those what you are looking for?" He asks the demon child.
Zane decides that he has had enough. "This situation is very unbalanced. Too unbalanced. The headmistress will learn nothing further before this charade is brought to an end. I will cast a spell now to see what of this is magical or not."
Zane's casting falters, as the older tiefling woman weaves a counterspell. "Please do not try that again," she growls. Her anger seems to mount, until the hooded figure speaks, a grotesque burbling speech. "They did not steal from you, Headmistress. The kobold's 'shinies' were a box of gems that he and the bugbear sold. The tabaxi did not leave the bar. The human...accepted a dare from the city watch, it seems...but stole only from the High Captain of Ship Kurth."
Zane says, "Lets try to start over. Hi, I'm Zane. With me are Hox, Gruun and Killian."
"I am going to assume that you asked us here to have a conversation and not an interrogation. All of us were affected by something last night, some of our gear is missing and there are holes in what we remember happened. You seemed to have something misplaced at around the same time."
He thinks for a bit and continues, "We have the means to find lost objects and people, I assume you have something similar at your disposal. I propose sharing our information and working together to recover what we have lost. But first I would like to know who we are speaking to."
"Only one of the most important figures, and one of the most notorious criminals, in the city," a familiar voice responds to Killian as the door opens. Roccar walks in with a large bag and drops it at the party's feet. "Some might say he deserves it," he says with a wink to Killian. "Your missing gear," he explains with a nudge to the bag, and moves to the corner of the room, giving the hooded figure a wide berth.
"I am Ritska Snow. My associate is H,"is all the "Headmistress" offers at Zane's introduction at first, merely handing a piece of parchment to the hooded figure with handwriting on it. "H" seems to purr in his horrid bubbly voice, "Ahh, Denorian's doing astronomy in this one." Tentacles from beneath the hood grope the page luridly.
Ritska stands, pacing back and forth between the party with her hands clasped behind her back. "I control a network of street urchin spies, smugglers, and safe houses in Luskan. Colloquially, they are known as 'the Schoolchildren'. I believe you have already been to one of these safe houses, one which currently houses Roccar's portal from here to Sundabar."
"You seem to have pieced much of this together already, but these are the details of my predicament. I recently agreed to hold an extremely valuable item - "the Box" - pending its sale between two parties. Roccar's safe house was specially remodeled to hold this item. "The Box" was being held in the same location as Roccar's Staffs of the Magi. Simply put, he's the only person outside of my organization who knew its location, and you are the only people he trusted with the location of this safe house. Roccar's staffs were stolen as well. He did not steal them, and H tells me that you did not steal them either; and his information is beyond a doubt. The leak must come from your end, during your...activities last night," Ritska explains. She motions to the young tiefling girl, still juggling your rings of mind shielding. With a shrug, the girl tosses them back.
"Honor is never enough payment in Luskan, so here is my offer. I am told the immensely powerful Trelanna Armour has been tracing information on some stolen gems. My Schoolchildren are a very well trusted source to her. I could be willing to omit certain details of the gems' whereabouts if you were to use your means of finding lost objects to help me discover who burglarized my vault, and retain my stolen property,"she finishes.
Zane follows the description and starts solving the problem put before him. "We did go back there yesterday to speak with Roccar. We could have been followed even though we didn't notice anything of the sort."
"Then there is all that happened during the night. It involved drinking and fighting and possibly a slit of the tongue about our adventures so far."
He becomes thoughtful. "That is a lot of leads to comb through."
"Could you perhaps describe the lost item, the Box? Or better yet if you have command of illusory magic then create its like so we may study it. It would make locating it much easier."
... and hoping some of that happens, he will continue..
"We will write down all the people we recall meeting yesterday and last night and you can cross-reference that with the list of people who would have the knowledge, motive and means of stealing this thing."
Zane looks around the room, "If a room and some food could be provided for this then we could get started right away. The sooner we start the sooner we will end it and rest. The headache isn't exactly helping."
Killian puts the tiger cub down, letting it do what it will. She approaches the bag and re-equips herself, noting if anything is changed or missing. She is especially pleased to have the old, scarred shield back. She will also put the ring back on. (Does it require attunement again?)
”For my part, I last recall slaying four members of a ruffian gang, that wore masks like... ((and she describes the masks)). Then I left with a captain and his men who presented themselves as the city guard. I remember little else.”
”Whose tiger is this?” she asks. “And how did you come by our equipment, Roccar?”
Gruun easily spots his Greataxe among the pile of gear almost forgetting he had more. He slowly picks through the gear finding his various items and securing them back in place.
"I've already been an unknowing accomplice in magically plots before. What is this 'box' and what is the purpose of having this object?"
OOC: The rings do not require attunement again, but they are once again visible. All of your missing equipment seems to be inside of the bag.
Ritska waves away questions about "the box", looking thoughtfully toward H, then hands a note to Zane.
"Roccar will have the details. I have no food or lodging for you, but I can help with your headaches. Take this note to Bormar Brineboots at his apothecary and he will assist your restoration. Like everyone else in Luskan, he is a pirate, but he is also a dwarven cleric capable of powerful magic," she explains.
She and H leave the room without another word, leaving you with Roccar, who shrugs. "I'm not sure that Ritska even knows what the box looked like. It was inside a crate at the safehouse awaiting its sale. But she is a powerful figure, and not one to mess with. From my end, I can offer 5,000 gold pieces to help me recover the Staffs of the Magi; ten of them went missing. I'm sure this is more slaadi shapechanger handiwork. You should start your investigation at the safe house. I can take you there when you are ready to see it," he says.
The tiger cub moves to the corner of the room, sits, and begins cleaning itself.
"You made quite a name for yourself in Rat Alley,"he tells Killian. "Ending the threat of the Joyless and stealing the pet of Ship Kurth's High Captain in one night? Some are calling you a hero; a woman in armor who ran through four men before they could breathe. They've taken to calling you Killjoy."
Hox re-equips himself, "All Hox knows was Gruun go fight then we go see this Kurth ship. Then Hox remember a mug of brown stuff...then Hox naked. Oh, and paper too. Paper of toad man but not toad man, other man." Hox shows the paper. "And clan man still have Hox's shiny?"
"Your gear was handed to me by Ritska. How she obtained it, I do not know," Roccar answers Killian. "I try not to ask too many questions of her, especially when H is around."
"Hox, here is your gem, the large one that you did not sell. Had I known I was holding onto one of Trelanna Amour's belongings for you, I wouldn't have. Who is this toad man?"he asks. After studying the paper for a moment, his eyes widen."Lord Bartle? Do you know this man? He has been missing since the slaad troubles began in Sundabar."
Killian will take a moment to step aside with Zane, and say to him privately, "Can you tell if anything has been done to our equipment, or these rings? Something magical, perhaps? I am... distrustful."

Hox you remember more than me, I remember trying to get ready to enter the pit and then woke up. Can you direct us to the cleric? I'm not keen on trying to think with this headache lingering."
