Everyone sees a woman slumped against the wall of the cave, several yards back. She's pale, and her clothes around her midsection are stained with blood, both fresh and dried. Despite this, she holds a dagger in a position that implies she knows how to use it, and is ready to. "I would say...that they were used to moving around the forest...and everyone ****s up sometimes." She grits her teeth for a moment, tensing with pain, before glaring at Taran full force. "I would also tell you...to stop bothering with the playacting...and kill me already...you water bastards." She tightens her grip on the dagger.
"I-I-I'm n-not a W-Water s-soldier."Taran says slowly moving forward, "W-W-W-we were s-sent b-b-by R-Ranari. I-I'm g-g-going to bandage your w-w-wounds. If y-y-you st-stab me, I-I will kn-knock you o-out. I-I w-won't t-take your dagger. T-Tiem c-can sp-speak for us, h-he d-doesn't tr-trust us, b-but he i-is willing to w-work with us."
Taran will pull out his medic kit before he gets in range, opening it and showing it to her, before kneeling down beside her and starting to pull away her shirt and expose her wounds. He'll begin providing treatment, if she doesn't stab him.
Liira gives Taran a grim look, then reverses the dagger so that the point is pressed to her chest, where she can easily hit the heart. "Don't get me wrong...the illusions are...a nice touch. But the likelihood of...guides showing up...right when I'm at my...most desperate? Yeah...right. I'd rather die...than get captured and poisoned by you...dream dupes...again. Come any closer and...no more prisoner to interrogate."
Tiem steps into the cave so that Liira can see him, but stays at the mouth. "Liira, it's Tiem. They really are guides. Water soldiers would have just sent you to sleep or shot you from the cave entrance."
Liira hesitates, but doesn't move the dagger.
Taran is currently 20 feet from Liira. If he goes closer, she will stab herself in the heart and you all will have moments to do something with magic before she dies. A traditional healer's kit (including the Healer feat) won't work for a heart wound. Sorry. The actions of the next few people will heavily affect the next bit of the campaign, including how much information and assistance you'll receive to rescue the other guides. Because of this, I'm going to employ a slightly different tactic with rolls.
One person can make a Persuasion to go with whatever they say to calm Liira down. However, I will only use the Persuasion if I think the roleplay is insufficient to get her to stand down. If I end up using the Persuasion it might not mean I thought your roleplay was bad, just that it didn't hit quite the right points for her. As many people can talk to Liira as they'd like, but only one can actually make the roll. Once a Persuasion roll is up, that's the one I'll use if necessary, regardless of who made it or what it is-no "oh, actually Vishal has a way better mod, can he go instead?" If more than one goes up, I'm using the first one posted. Because of that, I'd heavily recommend discussing in the thread who will make the roll and who will just talk.
Taran relaxes his body, ready to move in an instant.
"H-He's r-right," Taran says, "w-we c-could have u-used m-magic to a-approach, b-but we d-didn't. I-It has b-been a w-week, y-you kn-know R-Ranari would s-send p-people. W-we found your c-camp, w-we t-talked to T-Tiem. W-we followed the tracks and f-found where y-you escaped."
"W-we aren't illusions. W-we aren't trying t-to trick you. Y-You can h-hold your bl-blade to my throat while I tr-treat you, t-take me hostage and h-head back t-to the b-border. B-but w-we need t-to rescue the others, and y-you c-can't do that i-if you d-die. E-even if w-we were R-Riedrans, g-getting healed and e-escaping i-is the b-best chance R-Rolin and L-Lakashtaih-have of g-getting h-help."
"We are friends." River coos softly, stepping out from behind Vishal. "You are hurt *crr* We *crr* can help you. Think of *crr* R-Rolin and L-Lakashtai. *crr* They need you *crr* Now more than ever. You don't *crr* have to trust us, just *crr* work with us, for their sake."
A collage of different voices fill the cavern, but she's careful to only use calm and soothing tones. Afterwards, her beak opens up and she begins to sing a soft tune that brings tears to her own eyes.
"I'm not sure what to say to you to get you to completely trust us. And honestly that's probably the smart thing to do here. You were compromised. You cannot risk being taken. That is something that we are all taught." Vishal says at first keeping his voice calm and soothing as to not spook her. "Likashtai left a stone that only a kalashtar can activate and listen to. I activated it and listened to it. I am a kalshtar like Likashtai. My spirit is called Vakrai. He is a warrior that is only satisfied when I'm on mission. Likashtai is called Kashtai. She said that Kashtai will delver her final message if she is dead. Kashtai has not delevered the message yet. Your friend is still alive. And the Road sent us to get all of you back to safety. So please....lower the knife from your heart. And let us help."
Liira turns her glare on each of you that speaks. As Vishal finishes speaking, she sighs heavily and slumps against the wall, letting the dagger tumble from her fingers onto the floor. "...Fine," she says, gritting her teeth. "I...give up. Not like...I have many options...anyway." She glares at Taran. "Just get it...over with."
Not one to take unnecessary risks, Taran kicks the dagger out of Liira's reach before bending over her and pulling her shirt away to examine her wounds.
He'll pull out his unguents and salves, working to fight any infection that might have settled into her wounds while she hid in the cave. Following that up with stitching and bandages to prevent further infections or bleeding.
"How did you escape?"Taran asks slowly, in his medical voice, "Did the soldiers say anything useful, while they were transporting you three?"
When Taran goes to kick the dagger away, Liira's hand lands firmly on it, and she shoots him a look. "That...stays right here," she says to him grimly. "You understand the...position I'm in...I don't feel like being...completely unprotected. Think of it like...a security blanket. For me."
When Taran moves to treat Liira's wounds, he sees that she has a long, deep gash along her midsection. Infection has set in, quite seriously. It will likely take her a day or two to recover, now that she has safety and supplies.
"We made...a plan...for escape," Liira explains. "Two...distract while the third...ran for it." She bows her head. "Likashtai was supposed...to be the one to escape. Kalashtar...we all knew she'd have it...worst at Ulakhun. But they knocked her out...early. I ran...instead." She grits her teeth as Taran works on her wound. "Didn't get anything...useful from the soldiers. Just that...we were going...straight to...Sulatesh." She slumps backwards, clearly exhausted by her explanation.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Taran lets her keep the dagger.
"I am surprised you could run with this wound."
Seeing the infection, Taran starts to worry. Magic can clear an infection, even a serious one, but it could require specific spells they don't have access to. Alcohol might help, and he has some left, but if it has gotten in deep there is little that could do. But, it could be dangerous to move her with a serious infection, and dragging or carrying her would slow them down by a significant amount.
"This infection is bad,"Taran says slowly measuring each word, "I would want you under constant care and bedrest for days to treat this safely. But we do not have that sort of time. Does anyone have enough magic to burn away an infection? Or, I could try it with a healing potion and Ephedra. But that might not work."
(OOC: If I need a medicine to figure out something that I am missing, let me know)
Liira manages a shrug. "Wasn't...as bad...a week ago. And I've had...practice being active...while wounded."
Tiem steps forwards. "If you give me until tomorrow, I will be able to assist with the infection, but the accumulated exhaustion from the last week is something I'm not powerful enough to do anything about. She'll have to recover from it on her own."
Liira scowls. "I want...to help. I can at least give you the...information to...prepare, and...it might take...you long enough to...prepare for....the break-in...that I'll be...recovered."
Tiem nods. "Liira was our infiltrator. With her assistance, our odds will be greatly improved. How long do you estimate it will take her to recover?" he asks Taran.
OOC: The answer to that will be put either here in a spoiler or given in the Discord once Chaosmancer adds his Medicine roll
Taran weighs the options, before pulling out his only vial of Antitoxin.
"Normal curative magic will not help,"Taran says carefully, "It encourages life to spread and it will not burn out the infection once it is rooted in a system. If Tiem is the only one with restorative magic then my medical suggestion is to wait here until tomorrow. This," he hands the vial to Liira, "should help prevent the infection from getting worse until tomorrow. I will clean your wounds and change your bandages every few hours, which will also help seep some of it out."Taran shakes his head, "The Kintarm is a few hours out, and it would take at least two days of constant care to bring this injury to manageable levels. Perhaps some of us can scout until tomorrow, but I think sneaking in with an obviously wounded individual is out of the question. Most Riedrans do not travel to begin with, let alone receive combat wounds. It would be immediately suspicious. At least tomorrow we may be able to hide your injury."
"Spend the next couple days...preparing," Liira suggests, taking the vial and downing it in a quick gulp. "It'll take some time to find...a helpful soldier, get...any disguises you need...prepare whatever tools you'll...use. We built in...four days for preparation before...we actually tackled...the kintam...and that was just...for recon...not even...a rescue mission. Counting the scouting and...preparation we've...already done...two days seems...like a reasonable amount of time...to prepare." She grits her teeth as another wave of pain passes through her, and closes her eyes. "Think maybe I'm...going to take a nap now. Tiem can...give you the rundown...on what we've got."
Druhdaar has watched the whole scene without saying a word. As Liira closes her eyes to rest, he gives Caelius a look, then turns towards the others.
" I have... new ways to scout undetected. I think. " he shrugs. " I can go now. Be back soon. "
Untypically, the big man doesn't just walk off to do what he just evoked, but remains patiently watching for his group's reaction to his suggestion. His eyes are clear, his demeanor focused, yet a little forlorn.

Tiem nods. "All right. I'll start with the inhabitants of the Kintam we thought might be helpful, whose loyalty to Sulatesh might be wavering."
Tiem tells you about the following four people:
Jaash
Jaash is a guard at Kintam Ulakhun, just a normal stone soldier. He works often in the hallways where Sulatesh questions his prisoners, and the constant screaming and other noises have driven doubt into his heart about the rightness of what his lord is doing.
Ryden
Ryden is a fire soldier trainee. He recently had his first experience in the dungeon halls, and it shook him deeply. He is having trouble concealing these feelings, and steps will likely be taken to restore his confidence in Sulatesh...or remove him from the Kintam altogether.
Riikana
Riikana is a water soldier. She’s been completely privy to Sulatesh’s methods for years, but recently she saw him perform some particularly brutal tortures on commoners who seemed innocent. This made her start to doubt him, but she’s excellent at hiding her feelings.
Hama
Hama is a commoner who works in the kitchens of the Kintam. She recently accidentally wandered into the dungeon halls, and was deeply disturbed by what she heard and saw.
Everyone sees a woman slumped against the wall of the cave, several yards back. She's pale, and her clothes around her midsection are stained with blood, both fresh and dried.
