Druhdaar nods at Ranari's last words, his face somber.
" What type of garrison are we expected to come up against ? " he grumbles, " I don't mean to fight if I can avoid it. Don't need any more of these arrows in me than strictly necessary... "

Ranari stands. "Right. You all have a week to prepare. Good luck." She gives you all a brief nod before leaving.
You all have until Friday to give me your downtime activities and RP anything you want to. On Friday, I'll post the next story post and the search shall begin!
Also, everyone is now level 3. Stop bothering me, Jac. And Chaos. And...you know what, just...congratulations. You're all level 3.
River leaves the meeting, and after a brief conversation with Ranari, she goes about a few errands, cursing at herself all the while. When she finishes with her errands, she returns to Ranari for the rest of the brief before heading to her favourite fountain for a sad bath and then heading to her room to sleep.
River's Dream:(Anyone can read this. I put it in a spoiler because nobody else will know about it, and also because it's long as h*ck.)
She's Falling; This is the first thing River experiences as she slips into a fitful sleep, surrounded by pervading darkness and unable to see even with the power granted to her by Aevioth. In a panic her beak opens, a scream coming out and piercing the vast emptiness; not a mimicked scream, a genuine scream coming from a voice box long-since denied to the Kenku race. Her arms, once weak and scrawny, covered in mangled and knotted feathers, spread out to unfurl magnificent wings. She feels a sudden breeze as she thrashes around, expanding her wings and catching even more wind. She experiments with flapping them for a moment, beginning to fly up and down with twirls, dips, and flips, all the while screaming and cawing in excitement. Her enthusiasm is fleeting, however, for just as abruptly as it began, her flight ends. Her taloned feet wrap around a post that appears in the darkness, and she uses it to anchor herself while awaiting the patron she knows will appear.
Sure enough, the darkness begins to fade away and is quickly replaced by a towering, shadowy figure dressed in billowing robes who stands as a titan above the small Kenku, even as he sits atop his throne of skulls and bones. The man looks jaded, his elbow resting on the arm of his throne and his chin resting on his closed fist. When he notices River, a deep, low chuckle echoes around in the confines of the space around them.
"You are as predictable as the rest, Kaori." He leans forward, reaching out to take River into his hand, bringing her up to be level to his face."Have you found a light too powerful to snuff?"
The Kenku squats down, cocking her head slightly to the side as she looks up into his large eyes, peering over the half of a skull that covers the lower half of his face like a mask. The pools of darkness stare back at her, partially covered by the mess of white hair that sticks out every-which-way, flowing sloppily down to his shoulders.
"I do not seek to snuff one out, my Liege."River's real voice is quiet and reserved, sounding like one would expect an eleven-year-old girl's voice to sound while simultaneously coming out deep and raspy from disuse."There are flames that I wish to burn ever long. I am not strong enough as I am. I require your blessing once more."
"Your soul is bound to me, your one charge being to end lives so I may feast. What creature have you found that is so significant, so meaningful to you that you would come and ask me for the power to do the contrary?"
"My fellow guides have the potential to become beings of vast power, my Liege. Six demigods will make quite the spread when their time comes." River's words cause the figure to throw his head back with laughter, the loud bellows shaking his body and knocking the Kenku down from her squat. Lying on her belly, she looks up at him as he calms himself.
"Demigods, you say. Hah, I've not had a laugh like that in a very, very long time."
"It is true, my Liege." She calmly stands once more, returning to her squat before continuing. "One is Kalashtar, using his charm to pull magic from the Weave - much like another man in our group, while a third is a stout man - a bit rough around the few edges on him - who does the same with nature. There's a roguish type who reminds me of myself and a mute who pulls magic from within. By my side, they will be indispensable allies, allowing me to grow more powerful to snuff even more fulfilling flames from this world for your fulfilment all while amassing unrivalled power themselves, allowing you to claim them as your own when the time comes."
"Those are not your souls to give, Kaori. What guarantee do I have?"
"I have not let you down yet, my Liege. Allow me to hold them back from the edge of life. Allow me to grab them by the collar and yank them back, so that they may grow fat with strength like livestock before slaughter, and when their lives come to an end, you will have a feast worthy of a god such as yourself."
The figure seems to deliberate the Kenku's words for a moment, reaching up with his free hand to scratch at a bit of stubble peeking out from beneath the bones that cover his face. After a tense moment, he moves to set River back down on the post she initially landed on.
"Very well. Like lambs bred for slaughter, you will be their shepherd. You will lead them out to pasture. You will let them feed and 'grow fat with strength'. And when the time comes, you will snuff out the candle that you have just lit within each of them."
A sudden coldness fills River's body, from her talons to her beak. A chill runs down her spine, then back up before the cold feeling fades. She stretches out one hand, palm facing up, and nods as a ball of black smoke forms in the air just above her hand.
"Yes, my Liege. It will be done. You will not regret this."
"I certainly hope not, Kaori. Now go, you've wasted enough of my time."
The colossus snaps his fingers, causing the post to fall out from beneath River and make her fall through the never-ending darkness once more. Down, down, down she falls, getting colder and colder before she suddenly snaps awake once more, her feathers standing on end and her eyes dancing around wildly as a deep, low chuckle permeates the room around her, gradually fading away.
The week passes, with everyone carrying out their own activities.
OOC Note: As it has become extraordinarily time consuming to copy Discord transcripts into the thread, I will not be doing it for the myriad of downtime activities that occurred. This week was mostly too busy for me to get proper transcripts together, so this may change in the future, but right now I'm not doing transcripts for the dozen things that happened. If you are spectating and would like to know what happened, PM me and I'm happy to give you a summary and/or transcript, depending on how much time I have.
At the end of the week, you take a psionic portal to near the border by Kasshta. You have four guides to find. Begin!
How this is going to work: Right now, you don't know where the guides are, or what may have happened. You can make Investigation or Survival checks to try and find clues about their whereabouts. In addition, if you come up with a clever stratagem, I may either grant you advantage on a roll or give you a clue without needing a roll. Roleplay is of course always welcome. Good luck!
After a brief discussion, Taran and Mr. Caelius team up to begin searching the countryside, looking for signs of hidden camps or engagements with Riedran soldiers that might give them any clues as to the direction or fate of the missing guides.
Taran and Caelius search through the area carefully. Eventually, they're able to find a confluence of well-disguised tracks that leads them to a small, hidden campsite. The campsite appears abandoned in a hurry-there are overturned tents, tracks through the remains of the fire, and various small pieces of gear scattered around.
More worryingly, there are several slashes in the material of one of the tents, and long-dried bloodstains and spatters on two tents and a log, as well as some of the gear.
If you wish to further search the campsite, an Investigation will be needed for each section (Help actions are allowed). The sections are:
Tents
Campfire
Supply Storage
Surrounding Area
So as to avoid any one person monopolizing this section, after someone Investigates one section, I will ask them to wait three hours (or until everyone's had a chance to take a turn or decline) before searching the next area they wish to investigate. This does not apply to Help actions-if you Help someone you can lead the investigation, or help someone else, immediately.
You have until Thursday to fully search the campsite, including thinking of creative ways to learn information, so feel free to take some time to roleplay as well, rather than just getting straight to rolls. As always, I will never cut off roleplay if it is still going strong come the deadline.
Druhdaar makes his way towards the place where the vanished Road agents kept their supplies, along with Vishal. They take a long look at the place, then poke around a bit around the various items and kegs, bags etc...
The druid is not totally sure what he's expecting to find, but he will take good care to figure out how much supplies are left (if any), and how long this team could have been here before their camp got attacked.

Together, Druhdaar and Vishal are able to find several things in the supply area.
A few sets of spare clothes and such (equivalent to two commoner's clothes and one traveler's clothes)
Three collections of rations (12 in all)
A pair of binoculars
A piece of paper with words written in another language and in a cypher
A spare dagger at the bottom of the stack
A pair of gloves with slits sewn into the fingers that aid in sleight of hand or picking locks
Judging by what's there, you'd say they'd been here a few days. There are also too many things there for them to have properly moved camp, yet the supply pile was last disturbed days ago.
Druhdaar looks at the piece of coded paper with a frown.
" Can't make sense of any of these markings... ! " he grumbles, before he passes the scrap of writing to Vishal with an irritated gesture.
