Hawk is somewhat confused with everything going on.. he hasn’t heard about the Zhentharim, and isn’t sure about just taking everybody’s word on the fact that they mean no good. He doesn’t like the idea of splitting up the party either... He’s worried about the missing townsfolk, and starting to get tired by the day’s events.
Listen guys, it might be dangerous for you to go out there on your own. Perhaps we can get some rest and go parlay with the newcomers tomorrow? If you really insist on going then I will join you on the scouting. And perhaps just cover you from afar, just in case..
"After thinking about this some more, I'm inclined to agree with Hawk. We could all do with some proper rest, which will help give us more clarity for the morning. We have a safe space to spend the night here, so let's all settle down and gather our strength and wits so that we're on our sharpest toes when tomorrow comes."
Bert will insist on double watch shifts and if no one agrees he will stay up late into the night observing the town from a vantage point near the wall, alert for scouting from the newcomers.
Hawk will take first watch. He enjoys looking at the beautiful colors of the sunset sky. He knows he can’t take out his pan-flute to play tonight, so will simply, quietly hum some songs from home. While also thinking about what the Cat-Lord has planned for him next.
Zook will take second watch. He gets up a little early to join Hawk for the end of his watch and quietly hums a few tunes with him, eager to learn more melodies and hear what kind of songs they sing in cat-land. When Hawk finally retires, Zook sits alone, enjoying the quiet solitude of the night and blank mental slate of opportunity to let his mind wander as he thinks about those big worldly questions that fascinate, even as the answers continue to elude him.
At the same time he tries to remain focused on the task at hand as he listens for anything out of the ordinary. He wishes that he could have arrived into Nightstone sooner and done something to help prevent those poor farmers from being killed by goblins. After all, he swore an oath to protect the innocent and yet, in his mind, he's already failed the basic tenements of his order.
Shaking his head in sadness and remorse, he decides to run through some of his motions, if for no other reason, than to make sure he's mentally prepared for what tomorrow may bring. Standing up, the little gnome silently practices his fighting stances, slowly, but deliberately moving his arms and fists, punching, slicing, kicking and slapping at the open air, every so often returning to his still stance. He practices for about an hour, then sits back down and focuses on the stillness of the night until the end of his watch.
Bert takes the first two watches with first Hawk and then Zook. He'll respond to his companions if asked a question, but really he's very intent with his darkvision to see if there's any movement at all in the town, pacing back and forth and getting to know the walls and rubble very well. Perception: 9
Mandaway sleeps through....it doesn't even occur to him to keep watch, he mostly expected to be killed in his sleep anyway the last six years or so...though he wont complain if someone wakes him for watch, it just didn't occur to him...
Hawk gets up and makes sure to fill up on some good food, then does a few stretches to make sure all his muscles and bones are in place for the day to come!
He looks up to the rising sun and whispers in the wind:
What have you got planned for me today, Cat-Lord?
Then, he sits back with the group.
What is our game plan? Should we lure then out of the inn somehow or should we just go in hot?
Mandaway rose and yawned, then made his morning prayers, meeting up with the rest of the group he saw that Krakkan had been sitting watch and slapped himself in the forehead, " Ok, double-watch for me next time. Sorry, folks."
"" But Eldath is with me today, so lets go see if these ruffians can be run off."
In trying to decide how to proceed this morning, Zook turns to the guards. "How long do you intend to remain here in the keep? Is there a specific time frame or event that would indicate that it's safe for you to leave?"
Then, addressing the others, he joins the conversation about how to get back across the drawbridge. "Instead of jumping, could someone climb down one of the bridge supports while trailing a rope, swim the short distance across to the support on the far side, then climb back up and fix the rope? Seems like that would attract far less attention. Hawk, I don't want to volunteer you for this task, but from what I know about cats is that they are very good climbers," the gnome says with a smile.
"Of course, Krakkan is very strong, so perhaps he's the best choice. What do you think about this idea?"
(anyone on a scouting mission, how are you getting back across the rope?)
After joining more my signature got out of hand so I am now a proud member of the extended signature club!! :)
Mandaway headed back to the keep grumbling to himself something about the living being far too much trouble these days...
OOC: He's going to go get some sleep and then pray for Eldaths blessing. ( Long Rest...unless interrupted.)

4 watches needed (elves can take 2 due to trance). Post which watch you wish to take and a perception check (disadvantage if you don't have darkvison)

Can Bert sneak across and go scout out the town/inn?

" I'm not the sneakiest..."
Bert, how are you getting across, the rope is not there as Krakkan didn't tie this end onto anything, and Krakkan jumping across is not sneaky

Hawk will accompany Bert on the scouting mission. Is there a way to jump over? Or climb down and back up?
