Hawk stayed back with Mandaway, letting Bert and Zook take the lead. He also hears a voice in his head, it sounds like Bert. Bert? Why are you in my head?
Bert messages to Zook, "oh, I didn't realize you were here too! What should we do?"
He then messages back to Hawk: "I can do magic now, like you! Anyhow, there's a goblin in a cave looking at a chimney, should we attack or return?"
Then the same to Mandaway, and he'll wait for an answer from the group, drawing his bow and watching the goblin, ready to disengage if he gets calls back to return.
Zook replies to Bert's message. "Indeed!! It seems as we have both discovered supernatural skills that were formerly hidden within us!"
"As for this goblin fellow, we could try and capture him in the hopes that he might talk, but that didn't seem to get us very far the last time we went down that path... I'm learning that goblins are most uncooperative and not very bright. And I don't like the idea of placing my destiny in the hands of a stupid greenie."
"On the other hand, there's a chance that he could be helpful, and we don't know what else lurks in this cave. Let's try and subdue him. Aim for a spot that won't kill him and we'll take our chances."
With that in mind, Zook whips out his boomerang and gives it a sharp flick, sending it towards the goblin. Attack: 20 Damage: 7
Quickly, Zook rushes over to search the goblin and try to establish what he might have been looking at, or what can now be seen from that vantage point.
“Bert, come here and help me tie this fellow up and make it so he can’t make any noise! when he wakes up!”
You get there and the chimney has some natural handholds so could be climbed up or down. You also walked past another tunnel on the right of the current tunnel just before the cave with the goblin.
Hawk will scout ahead, knowing that Zook (with Bert’s help) has things under control in the chimney.
You got this Zook? I’ll head down a little further! I wonder if the villagers did come here? It does indeed seem like there is more to the cave than it first appeared, but if the entrance was guarded by those Ogres, perhaps the townsfolk turned back and went elsewhere? If the Greenie comes back to, make sure you ask him about them!
He will cautiously and silently go down the tunnel to the right of the current one just before the cave with the goblin.
Bert helps tie up and gag the goblin (vanilla d20 roll if you need it: 15, straight dex would be +4, sleight of hand +6). "What do you think he was doing here?"
He looks at the ground for signs of villagers (larger footprints, possessions, etc): perception 21
He then follows Hawk down the other tunnel, trying to provide some backup (stealth: 15), speaking through message if needed to stay quiet.

Bert, you see no sign of villagers here, just a few goblin sized prints, mostly seeming to go to and from the tunnel you are now headed down, and the blocked off tunnel you walked past earlier.
Down the right tunnel, it opens into a 10-foot-high cave containing 3 goblins (one of which looks bigger and is commanding the others), and seven giant rats. The goblins are gleefully watching the rats feed on the corpse of a human, not noticing you enter.
"Yes, me too. It is probably best that we don't get separated for too long in these caverns."
"My guess is that this lone fellow was on lookout duty, and that there are more goblins further inside. They seem to come in numbers, and they always smell like moldy mud. Such ugly pests, always provoking trouble, always causing problems for us gnomes, especially for our kin that live deep under the rocks. Although, we forest gnomes have always had run-ins with them as well, and so many of us grew up with at least some defensive training agains goblins and kobolds. I used to be quite frightened fo them when I was a wee lad."
"Now they just frustrate me, because I know that if I see a goblin, it's likely that that his first impulse is to try and stick me with arrows. Fortunately, I've learned how to catch them!"
"Would you like to see my goblin impression while we wait for the others?"
Zook hunches down a little bit and puffs his chest out. Twisting his face into a snarling expression that looks more comical than menacing, he stumbles and leaps quickly in circles around Mandaway with a twitching gait, while saying, "Bree-yark, bree-yark!" in a throaty, high pitched voice.

Hawk and Bert, you think you might hear a goblin faintly in the background where you came from, and then Zook giggling. The goblins in the cave don't seem to notice.
Zook and Mandaway, the goblin tied up starts moving a bit and mumbling some words but isn't quite back to full consciousness.

Mandaway grinned again, replying back in his head that the outnumbered goblin might talk rather than fight.

(was that aiming for non lethal? As goblins have 7hp)

Yes, non lethal damage.
The goblin falls down with a thump. No further movement is heard

Mandaway moved up towards Zook and Bert, Hawk could probably move quieter without him.
He peered down the chimney.
It is up. It leads out of the cave. You see light at the top
Hawk, the tunnel forks. Which do you head down first (left or right)

Bert messages to Hawk a suggestion they retreat back to the others quietly...
Mandaway shrugged at Zook, " I hope they come back soon."
OOC: Regroup sounds good, Mandaway is completely out of healing power but is up to crossbowing rats and goblins if needed.
