After receiving g the orders but before heading out Andris gets Quinton's attention. "Sir, before we head out I was wondering what the status is of the requisition papers I filled out requesting medium armor? I understand if it is still being processed. It's just after yesterday, a little thicker armor would be welcome. Thank you sir."
While out on the road, Andris reviews the situation. "I think we should split. Less of a chance we miss something." He says.
Patrol duty was always good, though this particular route he knew didn't go past his druid circle located to the east from the garrison. Ewan was familiar with the roads and the weapons it provided for the camp here. It would make dealing with the portal more difficult for some. Ewan chose not to use swords and even though he had been offered one when he arrived, he has politely refused.
Having rested and restored from the previous days battle, he headed with the rest of the group.
"We could, just in the case of an ambush we would be outnumbered. There are advantages to both approaches, I could change into something... quieter if we do decide to split up,"
Quentin spits out on the ground as he perpetually chews something, that you all know isn’t actually there. “I only get enough to barely cover you new recruits with the standard issue uniform as it is, but check with Torvald in the armory after today. He might be able to whip something up for you.” Turning to the group from answering Andris’ request “As for the assignment, I need: Calelle and Drakus take the first leg, Flux and Ewan take the second, and that leaves Marley and Andris together on the furthest leg. Let’s be sharp out there, get a move on!”
As you all begin to walk together down the road, eventually Calelle and Drakus break of and begin their patrol, a ways down the road Ewan and Flux break off and turn around as Andris and Marley continue down the path to the river.
The birds chirp in the trees as the wind sways the branches. The sun shining through here and there through the canopy. Drying up the small mud puddles from the rain you slept through. Every once and a while you hear the underbrush shifting around to set you in your guard, but it’s always just some small wildlife. All in all the pretty usual boring day on patrol.

Marley slaps Andris on back a little too hard making him stumble forward a bit, "I'm so sorry!" she gushes "I'm still getting used to human sized people. Isn't it nice to get out into the sun for a while without having to run?"
With Ewan travelling with Flux, he nods "let's get going then, shall we?" and begins his leg of the patrol with Flux. "So, have you been working with Quinten for long?" he asks flux.

Andris grunts at the slap and smiles. "I don't mind the running really, keeps me busy, focused. I can't stand down time. But yes the sun is good." They walk in silence for a bit but he finally breaks the silence. "I feel compelled to ask, what brings you here."
"Definitely let's do it" and Flux heads down his pathway with Ewan. "I've only been here for a few weeks actually. Still breaking into the knew lifestyle of being with so many people. It was just me and my dad on the road before this. We traveled around a lot, never really staying in one place for too long. How about you?"
"My tribe back home was full off amazing stories of the elders fighting to protect our land. I heard about the threat here and knew I could help." Marely's face softens as she remembers her time back home and stops focusing on her surroundings for a minute. She then clenches her eyes closed and for a split second her scars start to gently glow before she shakes back to normal.

A couple hours go by for everyone, keeping yourselves entertained with small talk... or not.
Ewan and Flux - walking through the wooded path, you come across a cleared area with several stumps. You’ve walked by it a couple of times before today. You’re feet are sore from walking all day and you decide to sit and rest. After a little bit Ewan notices it first.... the smell. Tapping Flux on the shoulder and jumping up and turning around. A wolf’s head pokes through the brush... and another one.... and another one.... and another. Spread apart beginning to fan away from each other two circle and flank the two of you.
——————————————————————————————-
Marley and Andris - Close to when you’re about to set back in to the fort. The sun is getting lower, but not setting yet. The smell of water clings to the air as you get closer to the bridge, the end of your route. A small caravan approaches, two wagons drawn by horse. Two dark elves are sitting up front and wave as they begin to slow down as they meet you.

Calelle and Drakus -
Drakus Perception check: 18
During the rounds closest to the camp. Walking around, Calelle isn’t deep in conversation telling a story from his past and distracted. Drakus heats a snapping twig in the woods, deciding to check it out. Weaving in and out of the branches and shrubs. Ducking under a low hanging branch you see a Halflings woman sneaking through the woods. She has a knapsack across her shoulders. You can see some vegetables, leather straps, and metal materials poking out the top. She is walking in the direction that is leading away from the camp. She freezes when found.
"The reason I joined..." He stops, and darts off into the woods. "Halt, state your name and your business. Don't make any moves." Drakus draws his rapier and points it at the halfling.

"I was sent by the local druid circle to... assist. The sergeant has me to use and know the layout of the land. It's close to a holy site of ours, so it's in our interests to keep an eye on the portal. I'm a liaison, of sorts," Ewan replies.
As they continue walking, Ewan smess something familiar, the smell of wolves. He puts a hand gesture up to Flux and says quietly "I should be able to handle this,"
Casting speak with animals, he approaches the wolves carefully, looking to identify the alpha wolf.
Ewan and Flux - The wolves give the appearance that they are on a hunt. Even without the spell helping your communications, you can tell that they are hungry. They all appear to be equal. That is until one wolf emerges in the middle. Much larger than the rest with a red tint to its fur.
What do you say?

Drakus and Calelle - The Halflings girl. Pixie cut blonde hair, bright green eyes big enough to dwarf her already small nose. A trembling voice speaks out as she clutches her bag. “Only enough to survive, honest!” She is looking at Calelle, not daring to look toward Drakus with his pointed weapon.

Ewan shows the respect due to the alpha of the pack, assuming that is the one that comes forward. "I assure you, we don't want any trouble with you and your pack, we are just passing through. Do you know anything about the portal that opened up nearby to elsewhere? Is it hurting the land?" he asks the wolves, trying to see if he can get information from them.
