"Regardless," Ryner, seeing that the man was stopped, "You heard what we were discussing." He holds his blade out, ready to stab or otehrwise hurt the man. "We can't have you spreading rumors of what we may be doing. So why don't we just kill you?"
”I am gonna get up so don’t you move or this big blade of mine will have to stop you,” Marius says with his deep voice. If the man seems agreeable he will slowly get up and stand on the side of the man opposite Ryner.
”Why were you so curious? And maybe you intend no harm but maybe those you would sell our travel plans to would have bad intentions...wouldn’t want my friend to cut down a man by mistake but if you are honest and tell us who would be interested in our travel plans I might be able to keep you and his blade separate,” Marius says in a calm tone as he tries to be the reasonable one in this situation.
The man looks around, between both men, not daring to move now that he was essentially trapped.... Look, I brought the Aasimar here, and it's been the talk of the town that Gundren was seeking help.. it just so happened that Aasimar was heading there, for it and I figured... 'well I'm already here, I may as well find out whats up' you know? his accent fading in his fear for his life Gundren has never once before called for an 'emergency assistance' or whatever you ant to clal it so it tends to pique a mans curiosity.. I was only finding out for myself... to sate my curiosity. I had no intention of selling the plans.... Just let me go...
Salazar nods, adjusts his glasses, then starts to turn to leave. "Twenty on arrival, but none up front. Hmm. Looks like I gotta tighten my belt again, Zildar."He half-whispers to himself on the way out over his shoulder as if someone's there. If either Gundrun or Sildar called out to him about it however, he plays it off as merely talking with his patron diety. He also makes sure the duo knew his companions names along with his own to pass along to the good keepers to smooth things over before leaving them.
Unless there is some clear signs of destruction, no sign of either of his two compatriots upon leaving Salazar looking concerned for all of half a minute. "I-It's fine, Salazar. I-I am sure they just, uh, I-It's fine."After taking in a deep breathe, then letting it out in one big huff. "... We need a drink." And thus, he goes off to find himself an open table large enough to fit the rest of the group when the come back, calling the elf maid over when she looked less busy. "Uh *ahem* Sorry to bother you. I-I am still quite n-new to all this. Being outside the keep, and, uhm..."He huffs a little inwardly, then with a smile he switches to elvish.
"I do apologize, my lady, for that utter lack decorum. My name Salazar Falone." He offers a hand, and if taken, briefly touches the back of her hand with his forehead in a elven greeting. "I apologize if you said it before with my friend, but... might I know your name?"He asks, and if given or not goes on to say, "I see... Those two you saw before will no doubt be hear shortly. If you could see to it that a meal is full prepared for them, that would be appreciated. Something lots of meat. I'll have just have a broth and bread, if available. Marius looks down at the man and says, "well whether you speak the truth or not is a simple matter, we will take you back to the tavern and let our new friend Sa..umm...damn have trouble with names...anyway he can easily clear this up and if you spoke true then I will buy you a drink to compensate for your time." Reaching down Marius lifts up the man to stand with one arm and starts moving towards the tavern with one large, powerful hand grasped on the man's neck to insure he follow along.
The elf maiden would nod, telling Salazar her name was in face, Luneth. Her name matched her moon-like features, with platinum blonde lochs, golden-yellow eyes, pale but fair face, and pink, pursed lips. Oh yes. I can have some food prepared for them. If uh, you're paying for all, that many meals, and drinks comes to about two gold, five silvers. I can have it out in a minute since I prepare all of our meals with special magicks!

The dark-skinned man more than happily fishes out three gold for the entirety of the meals. "Keep the change. Its hardly equal to the wondrous service received, but--"He puts a hand on his chest. "-even this poor man knows better it is to try come close, and hope the thought counts for something." He goes on to say in elvish before sheepishly chuckling to himself. If he notices a change in how she looked at him -- even if only slight(P.Insight:16), Salazar either doesn't let on, or it fails to register as more than an appreciative smile.
Before any temptation to delay the order further with small talk can begin, the sound of body being dragged along the ground startles Salazar back into his old self. Disbelieving the sight, Salazar furiously cleans his spectacles and puts them back on, then blinks owlishly as the "illusion" holds up to inspection. "Uh,er, what? Ryner just shrugs, uncaringly, "You two can decided. If nothing else, I'll kill him, if you two can't decided." He gives a cold stare to the eavesdropper, but after a moment seems uninterested, looking to his two companions, "Regardless, we should deal with it, than go to sleep. It's going to be a long day."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The eavesdropper seems to shake in his boots, unfortunately hiding any ulterior motives he may have had from Salazars amazing insight. It was kind of 50/50... Regardless, the man began shaking in terror when Ryner mentioned just 'killing' him, and the barmaid as well looked over at the man before she began casually shuffling out towards the kitchen-proper.... (Stealth: 11) Managing to make no more or less noise than usual, as she attempted to get herself out of the room....
The eavesdropper bit his lip, considering his options, before finally giving up... L-Look.. I was eavesdropping because of what I said before... But once I found out the pay... I make a pittance.. I'm lucky if I get more than three silvers a day..... Twenty gold could feed my family till near next year if we were frugal with it.... I was .. Going to take the cart... myself, and deliver it in your stead, collect the rewards, and help my family have a better life... I don't have the skills to increase my earnings naturally... but with that gold.. i could buy a stall, or even a tiny shop, and start selling wares... I could see my family more... and perhaps move up in the world. I would have taken the gold yes.. but your job would still have been fulfilled, and Gundren would be nonethewiser. And my family would benefit... everyone would be happy in the end, right?
Marius looks at Ryner disapprovingly at his constant threats of execution for so petty an offense saying, "enough of that mister grim-dark, he was just eavesdropping with the intent to rob us of our fees hardly worth a death sentence." Rolling his eyes at he can't help but look forward to finishing this contract and being rid of the blood-thirsty swordsman who he now believed probably had a price on his head considering how easily he considered murder an option.
Turning to the eavesdropper he scowls and says, "you think robbing me of a job will make me happy? Would you take kindly to someone swiping 20 gold from your hands you blithering idiot now I got to keep you in my room tied up to make sure you don't steal our job...by the gods if you wanted in on the job than you could have just joined as the employer seemed to have hoped for more than 3 anyway." Looking at him his frustration grows and Marius can't help but swing a meaty palm to smack the man on the back of the head with just enough force to sting but not actually hurt.
The man is successfully knocked out, being a commoner, and having no actual fighting ability. He lies unconscious on the floor.
(Apologies for the small post, but there isn't much for me to reply to yet. And I have another small chunk of errands. Will check back in roughly an hour and a half.)
Seeing that the man is knocked out, Ryner shrugs and leans back, "Guess that's that." He'll kick his feet up and lean back preparing to sleep there for the night. However, before he snoozes off, he asks, "Oh, by the way. Do either of you know how to drive a carriage?"
Marius ties up the man and gladly accepts the swordsman not pursuing his bloodlust. Sitting back down he starts to eat the food and answers, “I am practiced in driving wagons and such. Thinking I will just sleep the night in it to keep an eye out...my thinking is we should leave a bit before dawn.”
The man is bound and restrained, and the bloodlust of the warlock seems to have been sated for now, as he kicks back to relax. Everyone retires to their rooms or the wagon and in each case everyone gets their rest. The man remains bound throughout the night.
Before we proceed with the overnight. Shopping is one of the things in DND that takes the longest, I've seen it eat up an entire day at some tables, and on here it could take weeks~ so as much as I hate to ruin potential RP moments, I will help streamline the process of 'bartering' a bit, and this will all take place 'off screen' so to say.
With whatever gold you have now, you may, in the morning, as all the other shops are closed at this hour, buy any mundane items out of adventuring gear by going to it's associated shop. You may roll persuasion to barter.
Roll your persuasion check. If it passes a DC 12, you may take off a percentage in increments. 12 = 10% off, 14 = 20% off, 16 = 30% off, 18 = 40% off, and 20 = 50% off the listed price. However, if you dip below 10, it will be the inverse as somewhere in your persuasion attempt, you insulted them or something akin to that. 8 = +10% similar to above. If you hit an odd number, it rounds down. so 13 is treated as a 12.
So state where you go to buy supplies, what supplies you got, how many, and how much, you can get whatever you can carry, and afford.
Staying in the inn costs a gold piece, per person, per night.
As morning comes, roosters begin to crow, and the sun begins to break the sky. Lighting it in brilliant oranges and reds, and for a very brief times, pink shades as well. The sky was mostly clear, unlike the night before. The warmth of the sun slowly rising melted most of the snow, leaving the ground muddy, sloppy, and full of suction. The Elven barmaid is nowhere to be seen, though a man is attending in her place, likely the proprietor of the establishment. He is much more gruff, and surly than the female the night before. But he is anything, if not professional. He serves a free breakfast for each of you, as part of your stay the night before.
After Ryner finishes whatever tasks he was up to, shopping, etc, and inevitably returns to the Inn, he is met with a small force of four, armed City Guards, two of which are armed with spears, one a sword and shield, and the last one, a hand crossbow. All of them pointing at Ryner, whether he's within the building, or outside of it.
Are you the one who threatened the murder of a common man the night before over a dispute?
Ryner didn't go shopping, but rather just waited after eating breakfast for his co-workers in this venture to notify him it was time to leave. When the guards enter to speak with him, he stays facing forward in his seat, continuing with whatever he was doing, "No. And I didn't know talk was illegal in this city." His tone is bored and monotone, and in his own defense, he wasn't threatening the man. He was simply stating what he'd do if no one else had any idea what to do with him. Not that these guards needed to know that.
Since it's morning, Ryner's hood has been pulled up, partly to hide his face, but also cause it seemed a little bright today. His blade sits right next to him, leaning up against his table
Salazar in particular is aghast over the suggestions. He opens his mouth several times to try and form words, but not a peep comes out of him. So, he settles for sternly glaring at Ryner while Marius incidentally backed him up. Then, he knocked the man out, causing the scholar to tug at the end of his hair. "I..." He lets out a drawn out groan and buries his face into his hands.
Eventually, he drags his hand down his face, and claps his hands. "Okay. Everything is just... *sighs*.. Okay." He mutters, then aloud says, "I ordered a meal for everyone that should be around shortly. Eat it. Don't .. Just eat it. Or give it to that other giant fellow over th-there. Is that a... goliath or firbolg?" He grins faintly at the puzzle before him now, only to abruptly brush the expression and thought aside. "A-anyways. Bright and early? Fine with me. Just.. no more talks of m-murder, alright? Unless i-its about us ma-making a killing on this j-job! Eh?" He turns a forced smile on the duo. "... *ahem*... I'll just go see about getting rooms arranged."He starts to the bar, but stops a moment to dig out his money pouch. Extracting two gold to keep for himself, Salazar slips the rest of it onto the unconscious man's person before Marius makes ready to deliver the man to a room.
His remaining 2 gold he puts towards his room, and that of the unconscious man.
After assuring that both of his compatriots were awaken (a certain 'impulsive one' being done so reluctantly) and of his quick return, Salazar skips breakfast to find a smith that may be interested in purchasing his handaxe to be resold later. Or at the very least, willing to trade the thus far unused weapon for a simple dagger and sheathe. As he wasn't particular skilled in the art of haggling, even getting 2 gold and a dart or two out of a deal was good enough for him. Short of that, he doesn't press the issue.
When he returns later meaning to see to the bound man assuming the others would be reluctant to, Salazar sees the array of guards.. and just sighs heavily while shaking his head."Off to a great start."He mumbles as he approaches nervously, but pointedly from an angle the guards would clearly see as to avoid startingly them. "W-what he means to say is, i-it was all one... well... it w-wasn't a misunderstanding per se. Just.. he had -- actually, I don't know if he had any drinks. B-but I'm certain he r-regrets his actions, a-and... uhm... didn't mean anything by it?"
Marius wakes early in the morning and unties the man saying, "come on then I will feed you and send you on your way...if you are looking for work go to Owen at the [insert name of place for merc work] and tell him that Marius Argento sent you to test you out in some newbie work." Marius is smiling as he says so and is overall friendly in his demeanor as he is already putting it in the past what the man had been planning.
Entering the tavern he notes the guards and asks, "what is going on here?"
so Marius as the mercenary background that allows him to find places that give out mercenary work and I am attempting to use this to identify a place that might be able to provide work for the would be thief.
Salazar had been able to make room arrangements with the gruff man the night before, allowing everyone who chose to to have a room of their choice.
Up in the room above, Marius wakes up, with the wagon still in place, safe, and unmolested. Heading in, and waking, as well as untying the man. A very large welt had grown on the mans head, and the skin on his skull had been broken, bleeding slightly, though having long since dried over the course of the night. The man was unable to open one of his eyes due to swelling. Marius told the man about some potential mercenary work, to which the man made no reply except a very gentle nod his head, likely suffering from a concussion, or a migraine as a result of the assault. He did not move, however, and eventually Marius comes downstairs.....
The guards almost laugh at the nonchalant manner in which Ryner replies. The fireplace still crackles with a soft fire in the ensuing moments of silence. The smell of breakfast items lingering heavy in the air. The guards about to reply, when salazar rudely interrupted them Didn't mean anything about killin' a defenseless man? Now you folk listen 'ere. the Sword n board guard says flatly Your right Mr. Killer, it's not illegal to speak. However, if word ever got to us that you were had said 'what if I killed a guard' or 'maybe I should assassinate the king' that's just talkin' right? And guess what Just Happens next? you find yourself flogged for a month, before we finally cut off your head in the town square. So inconsiderate of you, makin' us have to set up the Guillotine n all that. So let me be clear... I don't see any blood. I haven't heard of someone dying, or a corpse being found. So I'll have to let you off this time. But I'm warning you, we ever hear talk about you again even considering murdering a squirrel what looked at you sideways, you'll be in a cell faster than tele-port-ation. Ya 'ear me?
The guards linger around waiting for any replies, before relaxing their weapons and heading out.
Feel free to RP a little bit of the after-event, and then you may consider getting the wagon ready to go. You still have until midday, so any shopping you need to get done, if you haven't already, do so now. After which, you will find yourselves on the road to Phandalin. Someone will have to 'drive' the cart and the cart has room to hold two passengers, so no one has to walk, given the small number of people. I need to know who is driving, and who is in the back, or walking, if you so choose. What side of the cart, and what direction you're facing.
Then, whoever is in the drivers seat, I will need two perception checks. Whoever is in the back may also make checks of any kind if they choose.
We're finally on the road to Phandalin!
The Elven barmaid nervously peeks out from the kitchen, her eye on Ryner with a scowl. DC 13 perception to notice.

(it's cool, it be like that sometimes XP)
Marius ties up the man and gladly accepts the swordsman not pursuing his bloodlust. Sitting back down he starts to eat the food and answers, “I am practiced in driving wagons and such. Thinking I will just sleep the night in it to keep an eye out...my thinking is we should leave a bit before dawn.”
OOC: posted by phone.
Are you the one who threatened the murder of a common man the night before over a dispute?
they ask, weapons at the ready.

"... *ahem*... I'll just go see about getting rooms arranged." He starts to the bar, but stops a moment to dig out his money pouch.
Persuasion: 8.
When he returns later meaning to see to the bound man assuming the others would be reluctant to, Salazar sees the array of guards.. and just sighs heavily while shaking his head. "Off to a great start." He mumbles as he approaches nervously, but pointedly from an angle the guards would clearly see as to avoid startingly them.
