Ander had all but leaped upon the rock when he took the watch. As said before, the watch was uneventful aside from half a forest being devoured over the course of that time, before the fire finally guttered out, leaving the charred husks of trees, and wet, muddy ground from the melted snow. As the party finished recovering. preparing to do what they intended to do.
So, what are you guys going to do? I need a course of action to respond to :P
Having expending nothing in the way of strength to power miracles, an hour alone is enough for the Scholar to bandage and clean up his wounds. But as the distant smoke and fire had continued to rage against all odds, the man gladly takes it easy after tending to the oxen and cart. Whatever ease soon turned back to pensive watch, if albeit halfheartedly due to Ander taking point.
"... Mm... Mayhaps in the future, Mister Ryner, we can... w-well, not use any more fire magic? At least, not in any places where one of the m-more flammable material? I-I know you probably didn't meant f-for things to escalate the way they did, but... you know... Th-though on the well off side, ch-chances are if they w-were any traps or other ambushers waiting along the way, th-that fire certainly sought t-to them too! " He smiles a toothy but strained smile. Upon receiving an answer and the group eventually moving on to the goblin path, Salazar makes one final check to make sure the Oxen wouldn't run off while they were away. After he follows in the wake of the two, if albeit with growing concern over the whole ordeal.
Ryner pulls on his hood, but gives a nod of acknowledgment. Having already rested up, he doesn't do much, but sit in meditation. He focuses his mind towards his patron and remembering the aspects of the fight so he can improve himself.
Having had a fitful rest due to keeping watch in full armour to ensure his new allies safety, Ander had risen stiffly from his rocky perch and stretched in the pre-dawn greyness, prior to kneeling on the hard earth to says his morning devotions in plain view of anyone up at the time. With his unhelmeted head bowed in reverance, mid-length blonde hair hanging down over his face and shoulders, and both hands clutching the handle of his down thrust warhammer, the young paladin's words ring out clearly, humble yet strong beneath the Morning Lord's rising sight,'
"Holy Morning Lord, I pray thee hear my vows. May I strive always to aid, to foster new hope, new ideas, and new prosperity for all who live and work to achieve good in this world. I beseech thee to guide me as I work to better myself, and guard ever against pride, for I humbly accept my sacred duty to foster new growth, nurture that which gives life, and encourage all that manifests rebirth and renewal in your sacred image. May I be ever fertile and productive in deeds of the mind and body. May I consider always the consequences of mine actions so that my least effort may bring the greatest and best rewards in thy name. Wherever this humble servant goes, may you help me to foster seeds of prosperity, in spirit moreso than material concerns. I beg thee to show me how best to champion your vision of a joyous and rosy future for all who are deserving of your benevolence. And when I am able and worthy, may your blessings allow me to kneel beneath your rising warmth and greet each dawning day that you gift to us with humble reverance. Amen."
Preparing a hasty breakfast of rations, before going through a couple of warm up martial exercises, Ander smiles at his risen companions while he saddles and feeds his horse. To an especially perceptive eye, it would be apparent that the golden haired templar is attempting to show nothing of his growing excitement for the approaching rescue mission, saying only,'
"So friends. Which direction do we go, and do we travel afoot or mounted?"
[OOC] Once we eventually break camp and leave, Ander will walk or ride slightly 10' in front of the others, taking a 'point' guard position.

"I-I a man of my words. We... We follow after the goblin. B-By foot. The terrain being what it is now, we'll find no easy passing through aside from that." Salazar admits, and if need be once the group have roughly made it back to the fire's origin point, Salazar tries to find or at least puzzle out a course the goblin ran off to. As soon as he had a route (assuming they needed course correction), the scholar points out the correct course along the way. Or more to the point, he makes correction, making things a little slow going from his refusal to be in the lead. Know and then, Salazar appears distracted more than their slow pace might object. Over time, he goes so far as to whisper a few lines seeking Guidance from a being called on 'Wise One'.

Nodding in agreement, Ander had unsaddled his horse and tethered him with a long lead near water, with plenty of the feed that he'd brought from the farmer. At that moment, Ander decided that he was going to name his horse Ivorsun - Ivor due to his ivory white coat and sun in honour of the Morning Lord.
Leading the way back to the scene of the battle, Ander tries to help Salazar with the search for tracks. After what seems an age, when the scholar provides a course of travel for the continuing search, the relieved paladin gladly dons his helmet, hefts his shield and warhammer and leads the way in the direction indicated, saying only,'
"May Lathander guide our path."

Ryner rolls his shoulders and dismounts from the back of the carriage, he'll point out the direction the goblins fled in during the fight, if it proves to help at all. Aside from that, he readies his blade and follows behind whomever leads. Provided they don't act like an idiot
(Can I take the Help action + what Ryner saw, ie. the direction of the goblins running away, to help tracking them/finding a path?)
(You may if you wish but he already got a 15, which is high enough)
As Anders says his morning prayers, he feels the warmth of the morning sun bathe over his skin like a gentle touch. Anders spirit fosters seeds of prosperity, feeling "Inspired" by the blessing of his patron. The soft warmth never seems to fade for the rest of this day due to the paladins diligence. As Anders leads the way, through the charred, husk of the forest, perhaps it was pride, or humility, but the blessing his patron had bestowed upon the man distracted him enough that he, despite his best efforts, managed to start walking off the path several times, however Salazar and eventually Ryner course corrected, pointing out the slight remainder of the goblin footprints, now much easier to follow between the melted snow, and the lack of foliage.
Keeping on the path, Anders eventually spotted a hole in the ground. Though shallow, it could cause someone injury if they fell into it. However, once again, thanks to the fire burning almost every inch of the forest on this half of the road, the trap was easily spotted by (everyone's passive perception) allowing them to easily walk around it entirely. Eventually, the group comes up to an area that seems to be where the mountain truly begins, and the incline increases drastically, aside from a final, large flat area. A copse of burnt trees to the right that likely would have made for an excellent blind, now left a charred husk.
Against the mountain itself, was a large mouthed open cave, a stream trickling from within, creating a twenty foot wide stream, that was a little more than soul-deep. (shoe). all the trees in the area had been decimated, removing almost all cover. In the distance, Two goblins seem to be looking at where the copse of tree's had been before, arguing dejectedly with eachother at their apparent loss. Their backs were to the party. They do not notice their approach, being about 100 feet away.
Making an effort to crouch down and obscure himself from view, Ryner whispers to the other 2, "I suggest taking them both down at once. We don't want to risk anyone else being alerted, and potentially killing our employer." He keeps still and waits for either of the two's thoughts.

Reaching over one shoulder to unbuckle his javelin quiver, Ander nods at Ryner's suggestion and whispers back with resigned look on his young face,'
"Agreed. With captives likely within, stealth will serve us well here, though it is not an approach that I am practiced in. I have been meaning to acquire a bow for hunting purposes, but I can still throw a javelin with some skill, though they are some distance.
If only there were more cover, I might have been able to get close enough to use my hammer, but I doubt that I could close the distance quickly enough to silence them before an alarm is sounded. So be it. While striking from afar lacks honour, the lives of the prisoners must be our main priority."

Salazar follows everyone else's example in crouching down behind any charred husk of fallen trees closer at hand, or whatever else could work. The suggestion elicits a wrinkled nose in response. Initially, at least, but remembering the captives he bowed his head in both defeat and thought. "I-I would need to be closer. At least.. 60ft or so to be effective. Unless--" He looks to Ander to see if he has any more javelins on hand. If so, he motions for one and mutters something along the lines of, "This will do" while getting a feel for its weight and composition.
He nearly starts upon realizing he lost himself in a closer examination of the weapon, and in seeking to place where and what might've gone into its construction. "R-right.. *ahem*.. I-I could also attempt to persuade them to lay down their arms? I speak their native tongue.. n-not that goblins don't usually speak common. Kind of hard to give demands if the one your speaking to can't understand you.. heheh... *clears throat*.. B-but I could try? I'd offer to -- wait. Do any of you speak goblin? I could make you appear more intimidating if so as well." He whispers to the others. Whether they agree to the alternative, Salazar traces a symbol in the air quickly before pressing his hand against his chest. "The eye is the window. The mind is the key. The hand the instrument. One's will the suture to bind it all. O' Wise one. I beseech thee once more for the means to reinforce this truth in the heart."

(loving these ideas. Just need to see the action beginning to take place and I'll respond! also amazing RP! Also if not for your armor, you would have a very stubbed toe. Also you used your player name ;3)
Salazar frowns at the 'foul tongue' part, and outright squints at the sigh later. After all is said and done however, any prior feeling is brushed off his face in favor of a look of determination. "After the very least, I-I can distract them for a moment. Give you two time to get into position and cut off their retreat." He looks to Ryner to confirm his prefered choice of action.
After confirming it, he starts to stand, but jolts back down and adds, "J-just so its clear, I.. I want it on the record that I do all this protest. F-fighting isn't my strongest suit."On that note, he adjusts his cloak, and silently thank their misfortune for drying out much of the snow on the ground. Salazar motions for the duo to take a slightly perpendicular course while he undid the thicker band of braids. After adding some charcoal and dirty mud to his hair, Salazar knew he'd hardly recognize himself in a reflection. More importantly, he hoped it would be enough to at least diminish any sense of familiarity from the previous day. After taking a second more to think about it, he also alters the appearance of his eyes to make them appear more goblin like.
Then he sneaks as close as he can to the river before standing up and saying just loud enough for the duo to hear, "Mullach na maidne gu riaghladairean! Chan fhaic thu a ’faicinn far an ruith mo bhràithrean eile gu othail, am biodh e?"

Nodding his head at Salazar's plan and bravery, Ander smiles as he clasps the man's shoulder briefly, but wastes no further time on words, angling first out and away from the cave mouth to then approach in as wide an arc as possible, thereby giving his white-braided ally time to enact his subterfuge and increasing (or so the paladin hopes) his chances of approaching unseen.

Ander is assuming that Ryner is doing the same thing on the opposite side of the cave mouth. The holy warrior is tense with uncertainty at fighting alonside these new companions, but can barely surpress a grin at finally having the chance to do real good out here beyond the now distant walls of his home. *Having noticed Salazar's reaction, Ander is puzzled at the back of his mind in regards to what the man found unsatisfactory about the templar's words and deeds. The blonde warrior decides to enquire tactfully later on... should they survive the coming trial.

Ryner indeed, does the same as Ander and is preparing to attack from the opposite side of the cave. Stealth: 11
He'll wait for the goblin's reactions to decided on what to do, but if they seem hostile or attack. He'll make sure to strike fast. As such, his blade is already unsheathed and ready.
His hood is still pulled up, and his expression still the same stoic look, however, his eyes seem to sharpen as they prepare to fight. Almost homing in on the possible enemies he'd have to cut down.

Salazar manages to get within about twenty feet before the goblins hear him begin to speak. Jumping in surprise, and almost drawing their scimitars until he begins speaking in french-like goblin, while speaking using british terminology. They look at him cockeyed Taking a closer look at this odd newcomer.. (1) he doesn't quite look like a goblin.... but his words somehow ring .. true? Or atleast more true than they expected.
Un nouveau complot par le maître? Déguisement? Peut-être .. Autres frères gobelins? Nous ne faisons que des gobelins ici ... il veut dire où le chaman va? doit être. Translation for those who speak goblin
Some new plot by the master? Disguise? Maybe.. Other goblin brothers? We only goblins here.... he mean where shaman go? must be. Shaman go inside, he is with delicious human. We are soon to feast tonight. He outlive usefulness. Any road shinies? New ambush?
they say and ask in turn. Looking more at salazar in a friendly manner, if they do make jabs about his looks in their language, insulting his faace, and hair, and just how dirty he is, each met with laughter.
It takes Anders some time, but he does inflect Salazars issues (I'll let him explain them through 'thought' speech) As he goes, 1 - 14 which takes soem time, allowing Salazar to converse with them for perhaps one more question, before they both draw their weapons. The first easily hearing the clanging paladin boots against the rocky dirt, and the sneaking warlock elsewhere. Preparing to charge, knowing exactly where Anders was, though not having spotted, only heard, the warlock.
(Salazar may ask them one more thing that will be answered in a 'past' bubble)
(Salazar looks grumpy and taps the butt of his javelin into the ground. Whether it is due to the friendly jabs or the from the words is hard to tell from an outsiders perspective. "Celui-là? Non non. Frères. Mais ils ne viennent pas de cette façon cependant par des sons. Dang it! D'abord fait espion en espion, puis feu, et maintenant ça aussi! Pouah." he says, adjusting his dialect to better match the goblins on.
He grumbles something along the lines of "Au moins se régaler ce soir."After picking some dirt from his hair and then incidently rubbing some on his chin while scratching it, Salazar snaps his fingers. "Tant de choses vont être à cette fête? Et ne me faites pas de conneries sur le fait qu’ils soient nombreux ou trop nombreux. Trompez-moi une fois, honte à moi. Trompez-moi deux fois, honte à moi aussi. Mais trompez-moi trois fois et quelqu'un monte un pied dans le cul."He jokingly threatens in goblin in fashion.)
When things go side ways, if there's enough time for it Salazar half-spins on the spot to see who they were readying to charge and points at the visible human, "Encore!! Merde! Prends-les pendant que je prépare la grande magie. You hear me, humans! You get to join feast tonight with other human unless you work for Boss too!"
"That one? No no. Other brothers. But they not come this way though by sounds of it. Dang it! First made into, then fire, and now this too! Ugh."
"At least feast tonight."
"So many going to be at this feast? And don't give me no crap about their being lots or too many. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on me too. But fool me three times, and somebody is getting a foot up 'ere arse."
"More of them!? Crap! Get them while I get big magic ready."

If either of you wish to take this approach, I will support you as best I am able."

F-fighting isn't my strongest suit." On that note, he adjusts his cloak, and silently thank their misfortune for drying out much of the snow on the ground.
Translation:
"Top of the morning to ya governers! Ya ain't happen to see where my other goblin brothers run off to, would ya?"
(Don't know if the same stealth roll still applies, but if not I can roll another?)

[OOC] insight check to see if Ander correctly interprets Salazar's reaction to the paladin's words and actions: 21
stealth check (with disadvantage due to his chainmail): 8

Toute route brille? Nouvelle embuscade?
Translation for those who speak goblin
Some new plot by the master? Disguise? Maybe.. Other goblin brothers? We only goblins here.... he mean where shaman go? must be. Shaman go inside, he is with delicious human. We are soon to feast tonight. He outlive usefulness. Any road shinies? New ambush?
they say and ask in turn. Looking more at salazar in a friendly manner, if they do make jabs about his looks in their language, insulting his faace, and hair, and just how dirty he is, each met with laughter.
Humans have come to ambush us! they found us!
Initiative order: G2, G1, Ryner, Anders, Salazar.
No one is surprised. I'll post what the goblins do after one more post from each has been taken.
