You can't drown someone with Create Water. If your lungs are containers than your bones are objects. Any Siege monster that attacks you deals double damage because it’s attacking your bones.
Once the trap has been spotted and easily averted, atleast Vimaks reflexes seem on their game today, the group makes it's way around the pitfall at the cost of a few extra minutes just to be safe, before pressing on. The clouds have continued to part for the last while, eventually revealing the moon. The full moon. The brilliance of the light cast upon the blanketed snow creates a dim glow around everything, casting odd shadows where tree's were located, in much the same way as the light does when a flashlight is beneath ones face, facing up, as they tell a story. This gives off just enough light that it negates any disadvantage that would have otherwise been there for the parties eyes.
Eventually the party enters a large clearing, though another large, thick patch of tree's are visible near the far end across a tiny stream tickling out, that glows like sparkling water. North of that, the ground gives way to rocky mountain, heading high into the sky. At the base, where the stream seems to be getting fed from, is a dark cave opening. The area is quiet, except for the sound of crickets and a soft, cold breeze.
How you proceed here will be very important, so I need to know everything you're doing per post.
Also I will be going to my local comicon so the next 4-5 days will be hectic. I might be able to get one, late post, per day. But I will do my best to keep this moving.
Cirrus tries his best to gather the group and whispers to them, "Okay, how do you all think we should approach this? It seems like this path that our supplies were taken along, leads to the mouth of that cave over there. Now, that may put us at a disadvantage walking through their front door, but this seems to be our only option. As for within the cave itself, I am unfortunately unable to help much. I have used all of my biggest spells for the day. All I have to offer is a blade.." and Cirrus pulls out a rapier with an interestingly designed guard, the metal is designed in such a way that the guard looks like some sort of cast-iron tornado, "...and a few acts of prestidigitation." I take a moment to silently demonstrate the different uses of the spell. "Given all of that, I suppose our only course of action is to go into the cave as quietly as possible, what say all of you?"
(OOC: is there any kind of roll I could make to see if I know anything about Goblins? Specifically what scares them, or what their society is like?)
(P.S. ZulkRS, we all got 38 XP from the goblins, you need to add it to your character sheet.)
You can't drown someone with Create Water. If your lungs are containers than your bones are objects. Any Siege monster that attacks you deals double damage because it’s attacking your bones.
Herman looks into the cave and says, "This guys seem to be nasty in the dark. We should carry our torches with us inside. We should keep eyes and ears peeled for traps and try to move as quietly as possible. However, I vote we silently kill any goblin that we pass by. The less we have to deal with the better."
EDIT: If possible while going in, I'd like to rely on my passive Perception of 14 to spot traps rather than rolling.
If their recent encounters hadn't set all his senses into heightened state, Giari might have almost found their current surroundings serene. This however was anything but.
Though he could see many potential ambush points ahead - the bushes, the cave mouth, even the rocky hillside - any of which could conceal disaster. The ground ahead though wasn't good enough for his meagre skills of concealment, and he turned and spoke softly to Herman. "I fear another ambush ahead, but my skills lack the subtle nature required. If you feel up to the task, I will stay alert and cover your approach." He points ahead. "And perhaps it would be wise to avoid crossing the stream, until you are certain that none are nearby. The stillness in the air is... telling." As he finishes speaking he reaches down to his belt and hefts a sturdy throwing axe into his right hand, the shaft of his maul still clutched in his left.
(ooc: I'm just going to stay where we are at the point of the last post; and Ready my handaxe in case any targets spring out at whomever decides to strike out ahead.)
"Like my mother always told me," Vimak whispers to Cirrus, "'The best way to dodge a trap is to trigger it.' She loved me very much, my mother did."
To everyone, he whispers, "Magic as a powerful thing. Could we give Cirrus time to refresh his abilities? Are goblins weaker in daylight, or is that another creature?" He considers the landscape. "Like Gulari, I worry about ambushes. If we do move toward the cave, I will sneak as quietly as I can."
Herman seems to get an idea from Vimak's suggestion to rest. "Hang on. What if we block the cave entrance and smoke them? Two of us could split and go, not inside but around the cave wall to see if there are any other entrances. If there are, we can try finding firewood or some large rocks to set fire to that side and/or block it. That should smoke the goblins out and WE can ambush them when they try escape the smoke through this side. If there are no other entrances besides this one, that would make our job easier. We can just gather a ****ton of firewood and light a big ass fire on this side. They will either try to run through the flames to escape or die of suffocation. We can then shoot the burnt, escaping goblins as they flee."
(OOC: First, I'd like to make an insight check on Vimak just to tell if he was being sarcastic when he said his mother loved him. I don't know what the DC on that would be, probably 12-ish? roll: 4)
Cirrus considers both of the plans put forth by Vimak and Herman, looking pensive, "...That goblin said that we wouldn't be able to beat the horde; and as confident as I am in the might of our two goliath friends, I'd like to avoid walking into a lion's den whenever possible, especially when I have used so many spells already, as Vimak pointed out. I like Herman's plan for the most part, but here's the thing: we don't really know how these goblins think, what if these creatures decide to take some of our cargo as they leap through the fire in a last ditch effort to save some of their ill-gotten gains? I don't know what all was in that cart, but I'm sure a lot of it was flammable." He finishes, and thinks for a moment, "I bet I could use my magic to create the sight, smell, and probably heat of a campfire if we wanted to avoid that particular risk. Then again, maybe that's unnecessary since we aren't concerned with the wellbeing of these goblins. What do you think Gilari?" Cirrus turns to address Gilari, trying to get every party member's input, and making Gilari act as a sort of tie breaker, unless Vimak changes his mind after hearing Herman's plan.

(I will be unable to make any battlemaps needed as I'm not at my pc, and am on my laptop. Also @Cirrus - Refer to the special rules as that answers your question -where the DAOO rule is- and then if you pass the check, you can know about what you asked in reference to the goblins. Also Vimak would set the DC if he was trying to hide using a deception/persuasion roll, or he can simply state 'my character was not trying ti hide it. Interpersonal PC to PC rolls are determined between the PC's themselves.)
As everyone discusses strategy, a few additional things are realized regarding the cave assumed to be the goblins hideout. Though resting would be prudent in regards to everyones overall efficiency, it is, in fact a cave. So even during the day the light will only reach so far within. Smoking it out might work if the cave is small enough, though it could also be quite large within - and there's also the stream trickling out of the cave itself. While the stream only covers one half of the cave, it could also make it more difficult to build a massive fire, though definitely not impossible! It would just add an additional factor.
To give a quick summary of the layout. Though the trees are essentially nonexistent in this general area, you are still surrounded by the wood in a large semi-circle leading to the mountainside. To the east, is a large copse of trees as thick as a wall, though you can't see whats past it. The cave mouth is large, and the left half of it is trickling a stream out, that becomes a much wider stream the farther it goes, leading over to near the tree copse. Behind you is the trail you just came from. To get to the tree copse, the stream must be crossed. To get into the cave mouth, the stream must be crossed (its ankle deep). There is a small gap in the tree's near the cave, about 20 feet long. The total size of this area you're in is about 75x75 feet. To get to the cave mouth is about 65 feet from where you are. The stream is 30 feet to your right. The other side, to your lefts, the trees go back to normal forest thickness about 30-40 feet out.
So I need a solid plan of action (of what will be done before I can post what happens, or doesn't happen. So who does what. Whats their intended outcome of that action, etc
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Ah, I see that, 1. I know that I wouldn't be the one to set the DC, I was just guessing a ballpark based on his charisma. I know it's kind of a pointless roll I just want to see what Cirrus picks up on when Vimak talks about his mother. So I assume we realize these things about the environment together?)
"While I do like your plan, Herman, It might not work if this cave is very large, which might be the case considering the goblin made it sound like there was practically an army in their 'forestress.' " Cirrus makes air quotes with his hands as he purposefully mispronounces that word. "and half of the cave entrance is covered in water, so their escape would not be as perilous if we build a fire here at the mouth. I suppose we could try to find other entrances to the cave and build fires there, but we still don't know how big this cavern extends, so it might still be ineffective. Do we really have no other option than diving in headfirst into the-- well I was about to say 'the unknown,' but we actually do know quite a bit, namely that there are a lot of goblins down there. Too many for us to handle, according to the goblin we interrogated."

"Headfirst may be the only way. But perhaps we can attack enough to draw some goblins out and ambush them ourselves as they exit? And repeat that process? I'm suggesting we rest because we need allies and magic is a powerful ally," Vimak says.
Given what you've heard about competition in Goliath culture generally, and what Vimak says about his tribe specifically, you think Vimak and his mother may have been headed toward a battle over leadership. She could, he thought, beat him, but not for long. He was growing larger each day. She was becoming small in the way of the aged. He will not admit it to anyone, least of all himself, but that was also the day the nomad within him asserted itself. He became interested in other peaks and maps of distant southern lands, seeking to leave The Spine of the World behind. From there he wandered down to Neverwinter.
"Those trees near to the entrance trouble me. A goblin sneak or two could hide in them to be ready to scarper inside to raise the alarm." He raises his head and checks the wind direction. "Though your plan is sound Master Herman, I fear the wind may not be with us." He taps his own chest and then to the other stonekin. "I say Vimak and I rush the copse, leaping the river as needed, whilst you two advance and keep watch on the cave mouth. If we are quick, we will take down whatever is there without noise and alarum." He sniffs and clicks his tongue. "And if not... well then our plan to draw them out has started as well!" He smirks for a moment, and then his face becomes more serious as he looks around. "Agreed?"
(ooc: Ok - my plan is as above, both Goliaths Dash to the copse (using Athletics as necessary), whilst Herman and Cirrus move up and Ready to attack anything from the cave mouth.)
Herman shrugs and says, "Well, since I'm not in immediate danger, I like this plan."
If this is the plan the party goes with, Herman will move 120 ft away from the cave entrance and take position somewhere that gives him cover. Then he will ready an action to shoot any goblins that come out of the cave or to shoot any goblins that survive the Goliath onslaught.
With all of the information that the group has gathered about their situation, Cirrus, somewhat regretfully, decides to follow Gilari's lead. Unless the group decides to take a rest (unlikely given the possibility of goblin spies), Cirrus makes his way to the mouth of the cave, standing in such a way that that he could not be seen by a creature inside the cave that is facing towards the mouth. He then makes ready to attack the first goblinoid to exit the cave with his rapier with the tornado-shaped guard.
EDIT: but before he does that thing at the mouth (and after the rest if there is one), Cirrus stands near the others, pulls out his pipes, and says, "Before we begin with this risky endeavor, I wanted to play this song to prepare us. I actually wrote this while we were chasing after the cart. I couldn't help but notice how beautiful the scenery was, but I couldn't comment on it at the time, for obvious reasons. Anyway, it goes something like this..." and unless someone stops him, Cirrus uses some of his innate magic conjure a small gust that continually blows through his pipes, playing different notes as he begins to sing: ( OOC: The words aren't important, click the spoiler if you wanna 'ave a giggle m8)

As Cirrus begins to trot towards the cave mouth, a goblin bow takes aim, though it quickly switches targets as the two giants begin more or less bullrushing the copse. The one goblin looks towards the other, the scouts in the area, meant to guard the cave entrance. Some whispering goes on between them and one rushes off stealthily as it can manage11
The other one takes aim at one of the charging golathi, it's bow at the ready..... Waiting for them both to get within range.... before firing at Vimak. Attack: 16 Damage: 8
In response, Vimak hefts his throwing axe at the spot the arrow came from after it bounced off his raw muscle. Attack: 13 Damage: 8
The axe going wide and flying into the copse.
The goblin, uses its movement to drop from its spotting position, into the copse, shuffling into the deeper forest, before attempting to use its Goblin Nimbleness to Hide in the nearby trees. 24
The other goblin that had quite stealthily began to run towards the cave mouth makes it about halfway before spotting Cirrus, his original target there, but does not draw his weapons.
Just before the goblin had hopped down to hide (cant edit without the dreaded dice manipulation) an arrow sung into the night from where the archer guessed the arrow had came from. Attack: 9 Damage: 12
The goblin had just been about to hide when the arrow sunk through it's neck, killing it.
The other goblin still remains at large.
From inside the cave, Cirrus hears nothing but the soft trickle of the stream, and dead, black, silence beyond. The faint scent of smoke wafts out, as if from a moderate distance away - but otherwise the cave is dead silent.
After about twenty feet in, the caves darkness is even greater than the outside was before.
