So you and my group A are all essentially in the same place in the campaign and have been for... pretty much the entire way. I'm thinking of consolidating the groups into a single thread. If you are all for this, let me know and I will write a post to bring the groups together.
So all of us would join together into an eight-ish person party? Seems like a lot. I think it could work unless someone tries to reference something in the past. For example:
Person from Party A: "remember when I killed Klarg the bugbear?"
Person in party B: "You didn't kill Klarg, I did, you weren't even there when we went to their hideout."
What would the backstory for our parties be? would both of us have been hired by Gundren Rockseeker? But we just went on slightly different errands?
Unless you mean our parties don't interact with each other at all and you just post what happens in each separate adventure and just direct it at which party it is meant for. If that is the case, I would be greatly against it. I feel like it would make it needlessly complicated for the players to have to sift through posts to figure out which ones are meant for us.
But if you did mean that the characters of both groups would begin working together then I think it could work, excluding the fact that we can't talk about anything that has happened this adventure for fear of rupturing the space-time continuum, not to mention the strain on the dm that could result of having to dm for such a big party (but perhaps that point is invalid since you are dm-ing for the same number of players, they've just been in different groups).

I don't know. I'm not too sure about it. Having a 4 player party is pretty good since it gives time for every one to interact with everyone else and form pretty cool character moments. This can be done with 8 players but again, more players equals less screen time for each individual PC. Also wouldn't having 8 players slow down the game drastically? Also there's the thing Cirrus mentioned about both parties having killed Klarg the Bugbear so that would mean we won't be able to mention that adventure. Which I feel kind of iffy about since adventures are what influence how our characters behave.
OOC: I am back in the country. Sorry to have been gone so long.
Vimak continues to flex. He urges the crowd on, encouraging them to yell loudly, hopefully distracting them from a certain cat. He kisses his right and left biceps again. What, he wonders, is close and heavy? Something he might lift to impress the crowd? Is there a quarterstaff and two or four humans? With one or two holding on to the staff on each side of him, he could do a shoulder press, lifting them above his head . . .
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((I'm going to assume James either is indisposed, or.. decided to silently drop the CP, I will bot him, and have him leave))
Just as Vimak begins pondering how to keep the crowd invested, Gilari, finally steps up. Playing to the crowd. Flexing and such, much like Vimak had, roaring and doing other such things. Ready for the final showdown little friend? he said, with the familiar friendliness of those who had fought together taking jabs at the other around a campfire. Finally, setting down his elbow, and waiting for Vimak to join him, with a smirk of confidence.
Once ready... the pair would begin wrestling.
26 - 22 - 26
Vimak gets an early lead, with Gilari making a solid come-from behind in the middle, and gritting his teeth, veins bursting near the end... managing to hold on at the edge... for several long minutes, the crowd growing tense at the final bit of this battle, before Gilari finally gives out, unable to hold back anymore... His knuckle scraping against the wood of the table, just as the table shattered between the literal Goliaths. A cheer rang from the crowd as Vimak won possession of the great weapon that Cirrus had played it up to be. Gilari, panting, sweating, exhausted, .... smiles. That was a hard won battle friend. And one worthy for such a legendary weapon. he says, winking at Cirrus. before pulling Vimak into a brotherly hug. This short adventure.... has brought me some clarity on a topic I've long pondered. And todays result was exactly the push I needed. Congratulations friend, for winning 'scorningstar.' And with that, I take my leave..... There is a matter to which I must attend, and I will not be swayed from it. But first.... before I go.... He says, taking the weapon, and putting it's hilt n Vimak's hands... and raising Vimak's hand, roaring out Vimak's victory.
Eventually it all died down, and the crowd dispersed, and with it, Gilari left, after saying his farewells to his friends, and saying farewell to the new lady.
Congratulations Vimak, on winning Klargs Morningstar. Sadly a possible friendship walks away in it's place.
(So sorry for all the delays. i'm tyrign my best to juggle this and life. So what do you all do now?)
While all this is happening, Bastille is walking around the part of town where she heard the Red Brands be active in. She is in cat form. Does she see anything as part of her recon work?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vimak raises the morningstar high above his head! But he is thinking of his elbow, shoulder, and the refreshing cold of a good snowbank. Soreness is not his favorite thing and his arm feels battered after the wrestle with Gilari. He is glad to have known Gilari and will miss him. Who knows, they may encounter him again, hopefully.
"My friends," he says to the crowd, "having shattered the table, as Goliaths do, we will have to postpone continued arm wrestling. I need to pay the innkeeper damages. But, should you have feats of strength you need doing, heavy burdens that oppress you, perhaps I and my companions can help lift them. Please share the details with me or Cirrus, our able-bodied announcer." Vimak looks for Bastille but doesn't see her.
He waits, hoping to have persuaded townspeople in need of assistance to come forward: 14
Bastille finds themselves on the outskirts of town, wandering through a small part of the nearby forest that had yet to be carved out, , along the cliff face near the large house on the edge of the northern portion of town. The forest was quiet, aside from the general sounds of animals brave enough to wander near. 2 after wandering for roughly two hours, Bastille comes up on what seem to be two men standing outside of a crack in the side of the cliff.
Make a stealth check exceeding 7 if you wish to get closer to hear. I assume you're a 'cat' and not a 'large cat'?
if you fail the stealth check...
One of the guards hears you, and begins to investigate.
If you pass.... Make a DC 10 active hearing check to listen in.
if you pass....
The seeming 'guards' are clearly bored, and looking for something to do, likely involving violence. So, We kidnapped that little brat whats always wandering by here... I wonder if the farmer will pay us in food? Never have to waste our hard earned money on food again! And what of the boss? They've been cooked up in their room for weeks now.... I wonder what they're doing....
Back in town, where Vimak was celebrating his victory, claiming the massive weapon Klarg held, even for a Goliath it looked 'slightly' larger than it should. Regardless, the heavy weapon was now Vimak's to wield. Apparently sore, and perhaps a splinter or two in the crook of his elbow, as the cheering crowd dispersed, that being the first real entertainment they had had in a while. A few people heard Vimak's proposal, and all but one left. The Townmaster. He approached, with a hearty smile on his face, patting the Goliath on the shoulder, being just barely tall enough to do so. Though the Townmaster was clearly overweight and a bit flighty, the adrenaline from the match made him braver than usual.
Excuse me my fine man.... but if your group is truly the stuff of legends.... as your fine blue friend has rather convinced me of... he says loud enough for cirrus to hear. Pulling Gilari down, to whisper, or .. atleast trying to he asks Vimak I have a couple of heavy problems needing dealt with.... if you're interested.... You may not be aware, but there is a bandit problem in our town.... as well as some orc raiders setting up camp in a place nearby... and based on the reports, they're headed in this direction.... If you can take care of either of these problems.... I'd be most appreciative..... and I feel we could compensate you appropriately. Obviously.. the thugs are the more immediate threat... but they don't just kill us willynilly like the orcs would...... So you scratch my back, and uh.. I'll scratch yours as much as I can. Can you help us?
Yes, I'm a normal small cat. A white one to be exact.
Catstille's stealth check: 16
Active Perception (Hearing) check: 16
Bastille (still in cat form and if the stat block is anything to go by, she is actually faster in this form than her elf form), will try to enter the house through a window. She will try to see if she can find the kidnapped kid they were talking about.
Also since cat's can't open doors, when she comes to a closed door, if nobody notices her, she will wild shape into a spider and crawl under the door crack. Nobody suspects a spider. In spider form, she will mostly keep to the walls and ceilings so nobody accidentally steps on her. By dashing, she can move 40ft in one turn.
Vimak smiles at the Townmaster. "How thought provoking you are," he says. "While I'm sure we will consider your offer, I wouldn't speak or decide for the others. Let me chat with Cirrus and Bastille. What can you tell me about the bandits and the orcs? Which group is larger? Once my friends and I have talked, I'm sure we can find you in the town hall?"
Vimak is looking for both his companions. As he looks, he counts out coins for the table and wanders just far enough from the square to pay the innkeeper.
As soon as he finds Cirrus, he shares all the Townmaster said. "Have you seen Bastille?" he says. "It might easier to chip away at the bandits. Take them when they are alone or in small groups. The orcs are probably piled together in a crowd in their camp. But, What do you think Cirrus?"
I just read through the wildshape rules and turns out I can maintain 1 hour of Wild shape per use. So after Catstille overhears the kidnapped kid, she'll hurry back to the group, probably reverting back on the way.
She will then tell the group about a kidnapped kid near a house on the outskirts of town.
Cirrus is given the information by Vimak and Bastille, and considers their options. "Well, given that the Redbrands are 'the more immediate threat,' and that there is a child in danger, I say we should tackle the Radbrands first." Cirrus thinks about the cart thief who he gave some coins to. He wonders if showing some kindness to the Redbrands might set them on a better path. "Best case scenario, we could figure out why the Redbrands do what they do, and with some luck, we could convince them that they would be much happier acting as beloved protectors rather than hated thugs. If we can do that, then they could help us defeat the orc raiders, which would allow them to atone for their past actions, cementing themselves as the protectors of Phandalin."

Bastille will tell the group, "The walls have ears and the enemy is near." She ask that the conversation continue in a private room and not here. After that she will ask when the party plans to mount their attack since she needs a short rest to regain Wild Shape. Finally she will talk a bit about trying to bring the Red Brands to the good side. "I don't believe that they can be swayed to the cause of good. Bandits and thugs generally do what they do for basic wants such as money and power. They are unwilling to work hard for what they want and would rather just step on others to get it. I do believe, however, that taking a diplomatic approach as Cirrus suggest is the best course of action here but I doubt the bandits will keep their end of the bargain or even listen to us. Their kind tend to understand violence and power."
"Ah, but Bastille, it is for those very reasons that I think rehabilitation may be the key! If these thugs desire money and power, and are willing to be violent to obtain it, then I think we can persuade them if we show them that becoming protectors of Phandalin will provide them with status in the city, heavily discounted goods (if not free), and they get to beat up anyone who tries to harm the denizens of the city, as they are the ones signing their paychecks! If we can just direct their violence somewhere else, while convincing them that this change is in their best interests, then this could turn out great for everyone involved!"

Bastille shakes her head and says, "I do think trying to convince them to change their ways is the best course of action for us. However, I do not believe that people like them can change their ways. It will only be a matter of time until they revert to their old ways. However that is not our concern. How do you plan to negotiate with them?"
Vimak says, "I am willing to talk to them as long as my ax is within easy reach. By which I mean in my palm. Or on my belt. Ax in one hand and shield in the other. It is the way of my people." He thinks for a moment. "Should we go to where Bastille overheard the information about the child or do the Red Brands have a camp?"
Vimak will happily start walking along with the other two.
Bastille says, "I believe we should look around the place where I heard the conversation. The words from the townsfolk and the guards standing around there indicate that the Red Brands are based in that part of town."
Cirrus opens his mouth to respond, but says nothing, realizing just how difficult his suggestion is to carry out. "Well, they definitely won't respond well to us if we just walk right up to their base of operations. Especially if we tell them that we're going to take back the kid they have... I suppose our tactics to choose from are 1) charge the place, [fantasy equivalent of "guns blazing"], 2) try to sneak in and be undetected as long as possible, 3) calmly approach them with my 'business proposition,' or 4) pretend to want to join their gang. Personally, I feel like that last one is not likely to work. Regardless, I think I am distracting us with my outlandish plans, our primary objective should be to rescue the child. As Bastille said, the Redbrands are said to be dangerous in groups, so if we could get the child out without having the entire group of thugs bearing down on us, that would be ideal."
