Ruhvon shambles over to the cowering leader, still bearing his snake-staff. "There are always dangerous people along the roads and you come off as no more than common thugs, so our response seemed appropriate."
Brayton puts his axe away. “Next time act more official, state the company and business first. You’re coming across as highwaymen out here. Either way I think we’ve proven we can defend ourselves and are not in need of your services. We’ll be on our way then.”
Brayton will leave to walk across the bridge. If the patrol/thugs protest, Brayton will just use his boots to fly and offer to give everyone a lift one at a time.

You're probably about two hours ride from Berwick. It's probably the nearest settlement of any size to this location, but not exactly close.
Brayton puts his axe away. “Next time act more official, state the company and business first. You’re coming across as highwaymen out here. Either way I think we’ve proven we can defend ourselves and are not in need of your services. We’ll be on our way then.”

The remaining two bandits slink a little further away. You hear her grumble "It normally works out just fine, most people prefer to pay a few gold than try to murder us..."
She and her remaining associate stand aside and let you across the bridge without difficulty. Do you all want to head down the road toward Berwick? Or does anyone want to do anything else here before moving on?
You continue down the road. It's fairly easy going and you make good time. The scenery lazily changes from empty grasslands studded by small crops of trees to more regular and organised fields. You see a few farmers working the land but they largely ignore you.
The sun dips closer to the horizon and the sky's turning a deep pink as you approach the town of Berwick. It's a tiny settlement compared to Dun Farum. There's a few dozen buildings surrounded by a modest wooden pallisade. The gates are open and the guard waves you on through. The town is small enough that you get your bearings pretty quickly. There are a number of shops dotted throughout the town, many selling agricultural produce and tools. There's a blacksmith too but, like the other shops, it appears closed for the day. There's a small temple near the centre of the town which appears to still be open. There's a larger house which looks like it belongs to whoever's in charge and a pleasant-looking inn named the Golden Goose on the main square. It feels like a peaceful place, mostly inhabited by farmers who work the surrounding fields. There's a handful of guards patrolling the streets, but they appear fairly relaxed. You get the impression the town is doing fairly well and the people seem happy.
By now it's almost completely dark and a few torches are beginning to be lit. What would you like to do?
Preferring the dark, Laza keeps an eye out for guards, and whenever the coast is clear will wave his hand and cause a torch to extinguish. Just before entering the Inn though he reaches up, and tugs on his hat, causing his appearance to shift, though staying as a Tabaxi, will just change his general facial features and coloring to appear calico.
Heading to the bar he then slouches into a stool, as it's been a long day of travel, and not hiding his fatigue, orders a glass of mead magically cools it, and says to the bartender (in a voice to match the coloration) "It's been another long day friend. Have you rooms available? And how much further is Nyalean up the road from here?"

You easily extinguish a number of torches without anyone noticing, leaving the area around the main square a little darker than it was before.
You enter the bar and buy yourself a drink (costing 5cp).The mead is pleasant and refreshing. As you look around the bar you observe it's a nice place. Not posh, but homely. Most of the patrons look like local farmers, but there are a couple of traders who look like they may be out of town scattered about. The bartender is a male gnome who hops between the bar and the shelves at the back of the bar with a spritely step. When you ask him about the rooms he nods his head enthusiastically. "Ay, there be rooms available. 5sp per room. can fit two in most rooms. If ye be wantin' food too, that's an extra 3sp per person. What say you?" When you ask about Nyalean he says "That be's about a day's travel southeast. Good roads. Ye be there in no time."
Laza sets a gold on the counter saying "That should cover my share, and another drink if you would sir. Anything interesting in this town a traveler should see on a short stay?"Depending on the answer he may just head up to bed after.
Brayton intersects as Laza goes to pay. “Ahh, put your money away. Tonight is on me”. As he puts eight gold on the bar. “Keep the drinks comin’.” He says with a smile after patting Laza on the back.
(5 gold for meal and rooms for all with extra for some drinks).
Laza smiles, takes his coin back, and grabs a few drinks following the group back to a table saying (in his normal voice) "Thanks friend! I'm still a bit light after getting ready for the last mission." He sets the glasses down, and magically chills the lot of them for the group. He then continues to all at the table "Shall we just crash here and get on to Nyalean early tomorrow? Or shall we take a travel night for ourselves to enjoy?"

The barman chortles. "If ye be wanting some fresh produce, the market is in town tomorrow. Or, if ye be wanting a blessing from Bahamut, you could visit a temple when it opens tomorrow. Or visit the balcksmith I guess." He scratches his head "There's not much going on around here if I be honest with ye." It's quiet here, like.

(5 gold for meal and rooms for all with extra for some drinks).
The barman happily takes your coin "Very well sir, I'll get your rooms ready and get me wife to whip up some grub." He pours out your drinks and disappears to a backroom.
You've been sat at your table for a few minutes when the door swings open and a decidedly out-of-place group enters the inn. They're lead by a Golden dragonborn clad in plate armour and has a huge warhammer slung across his back. To one side of him is a large half-orc, also clad in plate mail. The half-orc has an ornate greatsword hanging from his belt as a smaller person might wear a longsword. There are also two less imposing figures. A female elf is clad is simple green tunics and carries a staff, while a dark-skinned female human wears long blue and silver robes and carries a book and holy symbol. All of them have the symbol of Bahamut on at least one of their items of clothing.
Everyone turns to look as they enter. This is apparently not a normal occurrence. The dragonborn flashes the inn a charismatic smile to the bar "Hail and well met!" he bellows in a rich and wholesome voice. They approach the bar and buy some drinks before surveying the room. They eventually head toward your table, which has room to seat them. "Hail and well met travellers!" booms the dragonborn. "My name is Moryax Vemroth and we are the Champions of Justice. We're on our way to Dun Farum on business. May we sit with you? I always find sitting with strangers in inns to be a most interesting activity! And you look like the most interesting fellows in here!" He bellows out a hearty laugh. He seems genuine, even if he's also overbearing.
You also all get the impression that this group are made up of very powerful individuals indeed.
“Well by the looks of it, this place thinks you lot are the most interesting group here.” Brayton says with a smirk. “That’s some impressive gear you got”. As he leans back in the chair, keeping the ale to his mouth.
Ruhvon, who has been quietly sipping on his tea, replies evenly to Laza, "I would prefer we just move on to our destination. No need to linger here. We are not on a holiday."
He startles a bit when this new group burst through the door. When the boisterous dragonborn approaches their table, he looks up out of with a sidelong glance and eyes him wearily. The half-drow the turns to the others in the group and gives a grimace to express his displeasure of the idea of new company.
As the group approaches Laza switches back to his more friendly voice, saying with an unusual smile that seems to fit with new calico appearance "I'm going to have to agree with my friend here! hah! You all certainly seem more well storied than our lot. Call me Salusa. Bring a drink and tell us what you've seen of late!"raising his glass and taking a sip, adding "And what takes you to Dun Farum?"
Moryax is taking a sip of mead and the the female elf speaks up "Yes, we do have something of a reputation. We've just been overseas. An illithid swarm was threatening to overtake the gold mines of Farsoon. It was quite the fight but we managed to take out the elder brain and scatter the foul creatures. What were we doing before that Ruth?"
The human replies "We stopped the necromancer from raising an army of the dead and taking over..." The orc injerjects "No, that was the month before. Before the illithid we took out the smuggling ring in Ghent. Would've been nice if the count had told us they were vampires before we started." Ruth nods her head at him, accepting his correction.
Moryax puts down his ale. "And now we're off to Dun Farum on the request of local law enforcement. Named Olafson. Says they've been having some trouble with a thieves' guild or somesuch. Normally below our paygrade, but we've got nothing else to do right now and the Champions of Justice never rest in the fight against evil and chaos!" He stands up and the four of them smash their tankards together yelling "Huzzah!" It looks smooth - they've done this before. You each get splattered with a little ale and the other patrons look around at the noise before going back to their business.
Moryax sits down. "But what of you my fine folk? Where are you heading? What is your business?"
((somehow I thought we might be what they were searching for :P ))
"You're all quite busy, and doing very good things! It's good to know that there are people like you out and about, doing what the rest of us can't." Laza replies, with a smile, adding "We're headed the opposite way unfortunately, off to find a business contact or some such. I just go where the boss tells me." chuckling with a shrug; and after a pause asks "Though we'll likely be back in Dun Farum at some point. Is this thieves' guild anything to worry about?"
