You continue down the tunnel and after about ten more feet you begin to see a faint glow ahead of you and the tunnel begins to get steeper and more slippery. All three of you have to scramble to maintain your purchase on the stone walls. (Dexterity saving throws)
Rothnar: 15 Ruhvon: 11 Laza: 13
All three of you maintain your grip and manage to inch your way forward safely. Soon, you exit the tunnel into a large chamber. Judging by the distance you've travelled, this must be the Controlled Section. A few magical blue flames burn in sconces around the room giving off a low level of light. You can't see the full extent of the room as it's full of shelves containing all manner of oddities. The ceiling is high and vaulted and the floor is made of a brilliant black marble that seems to shine without giving off light. The tunnel you entered by exits into the room at about shoulder height on one wall. It appears that it's there for ventilation. The air is cold and damp.
Ruhvon gets to his feet after coming through the passage. He sneers a bit as he looks around the room. "Do either of you know where to start in finding this book?" He holds out the torch for Rothnar to take should he want. "My eyes will do well down here."
(DM: Exactly how large of a chamber is this? Also, doesn't the controlled section cover two floors?)
Coming out from the sewers Laza immediately shakes off and casts prestidigitation on himself to clean the dirt off, he then says to Rothnar, while patting his pouch containing his own set of Thieves' Tools "Let us help you with that next time." Looking around the room he says "The library should be organized well... I'm sure the book will be either in it's place, or displayed more prominently. Now... should we take anything else? Or leave it as is taking only what we actually need?" while starting to look for the book they need, as well as for anything that might catch his eye as having value. 3perception +4; investigation +3 ((he sees nothing... lol))
"Better to stick to our plan. If we take anything more the other part of the plan could go south. And improvising this kind of things in the middle of a job is the best way to get caught" he starts looking for traps first and for the book later. Going alley by alley checking for both mundane traps or possible magic runes or symbols, wich he thinks it would be the most difficult part because, they are just in the middle of a maic college and there should be that kind of symbols everywhere...
Could we help each other for this? I'll roll just in case is needed:
"Sure..." Erik will Help Brayton out with the lock. Still has Detect Magic on.
Erik leans down and helps Brayton with the lock, offering advice and holding some of the tools to act as a third hand: 22
Between the two of you, you manage to get the lock open. The door to the office swings open. Inside, there's a large desk with a number of drawers beneath it and papers strewn across its surface. There's a chair behind the desk and a number of other chairs facing the desk. Against the far wall there's two bookcases crammed with magical tomes. Against the wall to the left there's a small chest. Erik, you sense there's a magical item within the chest and that the chest itself has some kind of magic attached to it, possibly a trap or ward. On a coat stand by the door, you sense that a battered and pointed hat also has some magical properties.
Walking into the room after the other two Laza says "Let's try to find the book and get out of here..." and then looking around at the chest and other things says to Rothnar "You sure we shouldn't take anything else?" with a tempted grin.

Yes, the plans you found showed the Controlled Section covering two floors, you haven't yet found any means to move down to the lower floor, although you can see some stairs leading up, presumably to the entrance in the library itself.

Investigation: 8

With those rolls, you move around the shelves stealthily and carefully. You notice a number of traps and magical wards and usher your party around them. Examining the shelves, you see all manner of objects, but nothing that matches the description of the book. At the far end of this floor you see a small spiral staircase set into the wall. Either side of it, you notice a magical glyph. It would be impossible to descend the stairs without passing between these glyphs. Your investigation check doesn't allow you to notice much about the nature of the glyphs, although previous experience tells you that whatever crosses them is likely to get hurt but they will likely disappear after an initial discharge. As none of you are proficient in arcana, you can't read the glyphs either so it's difficult to predict exactly what they will do if crossed.
With your excellent perception check, you also notice a faint dragging noise, seeming to come from directly under your feet as if something something large and heavy is moving in a room below you.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Assuming Brayton was told about the hat) Brayton stuffs the hat into his coat pocket.
“Maybe we should just take the chest with us, disarm it later?” Taking out the forged papers: the letters of correspondence between Tolith and some unidentified second party. Details planning the theft of the book.
(Didn’t go into detail, maybe we paid for the forgeries along with the ID’s?)
perception check to find best spot to hide them, but not immediately obvious so she can discard them first. Perception- 4
"Leave the hat and the chest... we dont want to move things out of place and give them a reason to not suspect her... But I dont like our employee I feel we should black mail him later for this what do you think?" Erik will look for a perfect spot to hide her documents where the authorities can easily find them.
"Hmmm... dont touch the chest, unfortunately I don't have a disspel spell available right now."
Looking at does it look like if we touch it will go off or try to pick the lock?
Arcana: 15
You have a little knowledge of enchantments that are placed on chests. Chests, like most objects can be enchanted in a number of ways - it could be triggered by touch or the act of attempting to open it. When you focus on the magical aura around this chest, it appears focused on the locking mechanism, so it's likely that the enchantment would be triggered when the chest is opened or the lock is tampered with, rather than by simply touching it, or even carrying it around. It's small as chests go, but that still means it's quite large and heavy. It would be difficult to sneak out past the guard, but you could try.

”Where should we put these?”
I'm quite happy for you to say you have forged documents of that sort. You haven't acquired her signature, so they won't appear to be signed by her, but that might be expected in any case given the illicit nature of their contents.
((Unless you tell me you put the hat back, I'll assume you continue to have it))
Brayton, your roll is good enough to examine the room in detail. You see a number of good spots, notably, among the papers on the desk or in the drawers (they appear to be unlocked) or tucked into the bookcase.

Brayton has pointed out the spots to you, I'll let you roll with advantage (due to Brayton's help) to work out where would be best to put the documents.
Intelligence: 18
You conclude that anyone searching the room would easily find the documents in any of those locations. However, you don't know how long it might be until the room gets searched and you don't want Tolith to find them first in case she gets rid of them. You conclude the desk surface would be too risky for this reason and tucked into the back of the drawer or somewhere on the bookshelves would probably be a safer bet.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"The book sounded was very particularly described," Ruhvon says as they make their way up and down the rows of books. "I think we should be able to find it easily enough."
Investigation 13 (adv from help of the others? 19)
(I do recall that I gave her the flowers and she signed for the package with her signature that I kept)
Brayton will hide some in the deep end of the drawer pockets and within one of the non magical books. He will also take two magical books at random. One from each shelf and space out the others so it doesn’t look like anything is missing at first glance.
“You need anything else?”
(just reread and caught everything that happened, sorry trying to catch up while at work)
”They are going to have an eye witness of her taking it, no one is going to know these things are missing because it’s just hers. You’re right about this being a shit job, working for that wizard. But let’s just let it be, we do our job and we get out... move on to the next one. We don’t need any burned bridges. I’m keeping these cause we deserve better pay for this.”
As Brayton continues to eye the chest.
(Have we seen anyone besides the guard at the front?)
"We should recognize it when we see it yes"agrees Rothnar. "Wait..." he says suddenly and sems to pay attention to somethin " Do you hear that? is like something is beign dragged downstaris... perhaps we should look down for it seems a more protected area... but let's proceed with caution..."

You're absolutely right! You do have her signature! My mistake. The forged notes looks very convincing with her signature at the bottom.
What is it you're keeping? A couple of the magical books? Or the hat? Both?
You've not seen anyone except the guard at the front of the building - it seems the Olympiad has cleared out most of the building. You can see outside of the office window that the grounds are also deserted.
"The book sounded was very particularly described," Ruhvon says as they make their way up and down the rows of books. "I think we should be able to find it easily enough."
Investigation 16 (adv from help of the others? 6)
You're fairly sure that the book isn't on this floor of the Controlled Section. There's all manner of arcane objects on this floor, ranging from a gnarled severed hand which ooze an aura of evil to a sealed vial of pulsing purple ooze stored inside a strong glass box. You can only begin to guess at the significance of the objects. The spiral staircase with the magical glyphs seems to be the way down to the lower floor. It seems, indeed, that the lower floor might hold more secure treasures.
At this Laza uses his new hat to change appearance to the professor "Just in case anyone comes in, they need to see her." he says.
As you activate the hat your appearance shimmers for a second before being replaced by an exact copy of Tolith. You still move like Laza and sound like Laza when you speak, but the visual effect is very convincing.
Cleaning the sweat from his forehead, Rothnar makes a signal to the others and continue down the tunnel.
