"I will take the money once we are paid. Thanks Pyke" he says to the offer.
"After that wizard open that book... I rather be away from him or his dealings, if he is able to cast magic again by the look of Erik" he says in low voice to Ruvhon.
Rothnar helps Erik but half the way he mumbles every now and then
"I should left you here as a lesson for your own stupidity."
"And here I was, thinking that joining the club will make me work with professionals for once"
"You better not turn into a demon or I will rip your heart out with my bare hands and make you eat it..."
At the dwarf's remark, Ruvhvon's sneers and his form shifts into a giant rat. The creature hisses at the dwarf and snaps at the offered hand (not an attack, just to signal that he's not going to shake it). It then scurries out of Pike's office.
“Next time, I’ll ask and I’ll listen. You guys are the brains in this after all.” He extends to shake everyone’s hands to make amends. But he waits for everyone to leave to talk to Pike.
”You may want to rethink that punishment.” As he begins to rub the back of his head and wince a little. “There was a chest, warded in her office. We couldn’t get in it, so I took the whole thing home. None of them know anything about it. I was going to tell them, but they didn’t even like the small stuff I took for them. I’ll do with it what you tell me to. I took it and told the guard it was to be fixed and brought back as I was using the badge of the parcel delivery badge. I mean he even helped me with the door!” Brayton gives a slight nervous chuckle. I can replace it before it’s too late if you think that’s best. It won’t happen again.”
Pike listens and ponders before replying. "In general, I encourage thievery and have no qualms about the desire to get rich. As you point out, it's why we're here. However, the mission always comes first, and it sounds as though you might have left a loose end or two that could have been avoided. That is... regrettable. But, in the Silver Blades, results are what matters. You have the book and we'll soon know how your attempts to frame Tolith went. If the plan fails due to your actions then there will be a punishment, indeed. If the plan succeeds, however, then there's no need for bad blood and every need for celebration. I suggest you use the time between now and when the outcome becomes clear to reflect on the risks you've taken to the mission, to your crew, to the Blades and to yourself." He thinks for a moment. "As for putting the chest back, if I understand correctly, you're expecting the authorities to be all over Tolith's office any minute? I think putting it back would pose a greater risk than keeping it. However, I advise you to keep its contents to yourself until the investigation dies down. Trying to sell personal or magical items tied to an active investigation would be most unwise." Pike pulls out a parchment and quill and begins writing. "You may leave. I will see you soon."
You all make it to your respective homes. Erik:
When you arrive home you fall asleep within minutes. Your sleep is troubled and fitful. It feels as though your brain is trying to organise its new understanding of the universe obtained from the Well of Souls. More than once you feel the hunger of the book pressing into your mind and you feel as though you're dying, before waking in a cold sweat in your bed.
You all expect you have a week or so before the investigation will conclude. Is there anything you'd like to do in the meantime? Otherwise, we'll skip straight to the conclusion.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Brayton would heal up, and attempt to pick the lock on the chest. Hoping he is able to take the brunt of the damage once it backfires. Spending the last of his coin on a healers kit and giving it to his wife in case he gets knocked out.
Lockpick Check: 13
If he is not able to pick the lock, he will take the axe and slice off the hinges to open the box that way.
He would also like to spend time with the hat to try and figure out what it does.
"Thanks.... I'll take the money as usual Pike..." Using Rothnar as a crutch to lean on "Say what you want Rothnar, I gained a lot more that gold tonight... I may have bitten off more than I can chew but I definitely gained some magic... I can feel it...."
As they are walking Erik will say something in a language.
"Those that do not dare are doomed to failure."

Over the next week you keep your ears close to the ground for news about the aftermath of your heist. A rumour quickly spreads that something of great power was stolen from the Arcaneum Library. Rumours include that it was perpetrated by a disgruntled former-employee, a band of master thieves or an incursion of gensai from another plane. Everyone has a favourite theory and each is more wild than the last. After a few days, however, the rumours begin to form a more coherent story. It seems that Tolith was arrested on suspicion of stealing the artefact. ((A quick roll to find out how obvious Brayton's involvement was: 20)) The authorities aren't looking for anyone else.
Then you get called to Pike's office. As you enter, you see Pike and Eirril. Eirril is clutching the book and positively beaming and almost bouncing with excitement. "You did it! You did it! Honestly, I doubted you, but Pike here said you were the best. And he was right! Tolith is in prison and her chair is open! I'm a shoe-in for it! With my ability they'd be mad to turn me down!"
Pike looks meaningfully at you all before speaking "Yes, it all went very smoothly. No problems at all." He glances at Brayton and winks. "Now, I believe we need to discuss your payment. Eirril has already paid his fee to the Blades, but I seem to recall that you gave the option of enchanting an item for them instead if they wished?"
"Oh, yes, of course! For someone of my skill it should be no problem whatsoever. Either Pike can give you the money, 200 gold I believe, or I can enchant an item of your choice. What would you each like?"
Not sure the components, but here are some forage rolls
10, 7, 11, 9
(Wow! what a sad set of rolls there...)
There's not time to go on an extended foraging trip at this point, but I'll say with those rolls you manage to find a single portion of nightshade (one of the two ingredients for the poison) in the plains near Dun Farum. You can go on a more extended foraging expedition after the conclusion of your meeting with Pike - you're due some time off after this heist.
"..... I'll take my gold, Pike." Looking at the book then at the wizard "Well, good luck with that from what I heard from the students and from dealings with the Well of Souls. You'll need it."
Erik will take his payment waiting for the others.

The lock on the box isn't complex and you soon have it open. Inside, you find a pile of dusty papers. They look like a combination of academic journal papers and notes made by Tolith. None of it makes much sense to you.
However, you also find a small polished stone. It's a deep black and seems to shine dimly with an internal light. It feels slightly warm to the touch and, when you hold it, you feel slightly reassured and confident. (Int check to see if you can work out what it's effects are: 12). You notice that, while you have the stone on you, you're a little better at a number of tasks but seemingly just chance. As you polish your axe, you almost drop it, but manage to catch it with your foot in an unexpected way. A number of similar incidents make you believe the stone is adding to your luck a little. (Mecahnically, this is a Stone of Good Luck (Luckstone))
You also find a ring. It has a wide band and a dull white gem set into it. You put it on and don't feel much different. Without training in Arcana you don't stand much hope of identifying this.
You also still have the hat you found in Tolith's office that you haven't identified. In general, getting a magic item identified in one of the many shops which sells magic items in Dun Farum costs 10 gold per item (unless the item is very rare). I'm happy to say any of you can do this any point you have a few free hours in the city. If you're happy to pay the cost, we can say you did that in the week before this meeting with Pike.
"..... I'll take my gold, Pike." Looking at the book then at the wizard "Well, good luck with that from what I heard from the students and from dealings with the Well of Souls. You'll need it."
Erik will take his payment waiting for the others.
Eirril is indeed clutching the Well of Souls. It seems Pike has just given it to him.
Pike nods "Very well." and hands over a small pouch containing 200 gold.
Eirril looks at you quizzically "What dealings with the Well of Souls are you referring to? You didn't open it, did you?" Pike shoots you a warning look.
"Though gold is always nice... Seeing how people control their magicks so easily in the academy I was hoping you could make this"Laza says, pulling out the crystal he often rolls between his fingers before casting spells "a bit more potent..."
Brayton would take the papers to Erik and Laxative to see if they could make sense of it. “Here, this is way over my head. What do you guys think?”
Brayton would spend the money to get things identified so his gold would be 180.
Standing up to Eirril “I appreciate the offer, but the gold is fine with me.” He says with a grin. “I was hesitant to trust you, but that was a fair job at a fair price. I’d be happy to help if you require our services again in the future.” Brayton extends his hand for a handshake while giving Pike a slight nod.

Eirril takes your crystal and looks it over in his hands. "Yes, I can make this a little more potent, that won't be a problem." He gives you a look which is both stern and condescending at the same time. "But, of course, you'll still need to practice. Magical skill is earned with hard work and talent." He flicks his hair with a superior flourish. "I should have this completed for you within a week. I'll return it to Pike when it's completed."

You make your way around some of the many magical shops in Dun Farum to try and find someone capable of identifying your finds. It takes you a little longer than usual as you try to avoid the area around the Arcaneum. Eventually you find your way into a small tent in a market square. Inside the richly patterned fabrics of the tent and hanging drapes and fabrics you find a creature wreathed in smoke emanating from incense sticks around the tent. It has the form of a attractive female human and is clad in loose-fitting flowing fabrics. She is sat legs crossed mediating. As you approach closer he eyes flick open and she begins to speak: "Sssssso, what bringsss you here to visit Falima the Wise?". Her pupils are balck slits in yellow irides and as she speaks a forked tongue flicks from her mouth. You realise this must a Yuan-Ti Pureblood. You ask if she can identify the items and she replies "Yesssss, I can identify these items. 10 gold each." You pay and she examines the items. As she examines the hat she speaks "I ssssssee you're not magical by nature. This may help you a little. It is a Hat of Wizardry. If you picture a sssssimple ssssspell you wish to cast, this item will give you a chance to do sssso. Good for impressing people at parties." She smiles before examining the ring. "This is an enchanted ring with an interesting effect. When wearing it, you will not ssssink in water. You may walk or sssslither across it as you see fit." ((It is a Ring of Water Walking)) "I trust you will use these itemssss well and I know better than to asssk how you acquired them." She smiles knowingly before resuming her meditation. You take your cue to leave.
Later, whilst talking to Eirril he watches you and Erik take the gold and appears a little put out. "I'm surprised you value gold above the power over the elements of nature itself! But that is your decision to make." He looks a little huffy but still shakes your hand when you offer it. "I'll have you know I'm very trustworthy! Extremely honest. In any case, I'm glad our partnership worked out well."
"I prefer to "control" the elements myself, good day..." Erik doesn't answer Eirril's question about opening the book and walks with Brayton speaking in dwarven.
"Thanks for the papers, professor Tolith was supposedly a great wizard. I honest don't like that we sent her to prison. The country could have benefited from her work."
Taking the papers Erik will place them in his bag and leave going to a bar to study the notes.
The next days Rothnar keep going to work as gardener as normal and keeps an ear and an eye open to see how the investigations and rumors goes. Five days after the heist he escuses himself from the work, leaving it but keeping a copy of any key he would had access to if any at all.
"I'll take the money thank you Pike" says Rothnar in the office. "If you are going to start playing with that... thing again I will take my leave. Thank you" with that Rothnar leaves and goes directly to acquire his reserved gloves
( I don't remember how much left to pay it was 100 gp? )

Arcana: 23 You're able to follow the dense notes to some degree. Tolith appeared to have been working on improving the theoretical understanding of how magic is made permanent and attached to physical objects in the process of enchantment. Many of the academic papers document arguments which have raged in academic journals for decades about different interpretations of the nature of enchantment. Tolith's own notes show she was making some promising progress, but her work was far from complete. It would take a truly great mind to be able to carry on the work and would takes years of dedicated study to complete.

The Gloves of Thievery were 135 gold with your discount and you left a deposit of 20 gold so you have 115 gold left to pay.
You see Arcaneum and city guards setting up a perimeter around the library. They appear to be paying close attention to the ventilation shaft you used to enter. Amongst the investigators you notice a large human male with a square jaw and short brown hair appears to be in charge of the investigations. You learn his name is Ernst Olafson and appears to be one of the City Guard's lead investigators of serious crimes. He has a curt demeanour and seems to be competent and professional. After a few days you hear from one of your colleagues that Tolith was marched out of her office by a number of the guards, led by Ernst. A couple more days later you hear that her family have been evicted from their house as this was provided as part of Tolith's employment with the Arcaneum. When you leave your employment you're able to take copies of the key to the groundskeepers' shed and the keys to the sewer grates found in the Arcaneum grounds. You're asked to hand back your identity card.
When you refer to "playing with that... thing again" Eirril joins the dots with Erik's reluctance to answer his earlier question. "You did open the book didn't you?! That was foolish. I'm impressed a lesser person such as yourself could even survive such a brush with the power of the Well of Souls. I imagine the process was quite unpleasant without the proper preparation! I did warn you. Next time, keep your nose out of things you don't understand."
Pike looks around his office. "Ruhvon, you're the last to pick your reward. What will it be?"
Physical Exhausted as well as mentally Erik will ask for help "Can anyone help me to my home? I can barely stand..."
