"So be it, let us be on our way." Alson turns to the Chief, then looking back down the line of caravans. "We can push on a little more, get the guards out again, but we will need to have the drivers pull their weight at night as well now, there is no sense in exhausting the men if they may need to fight again soon, although I hope it doesn't come to it." The Chief moves off clapping both Kai and Gideon warmly on the shoulder with a smile as he calls "Glad you are riding with us lads, Gods watch over you both."
The caravan is soon up and moving, Gryffen driving his new wagon and pacing alongside Ophelia in her own caravan.
As the day draws in the group come to a halt, progress a little bit less than originally planned but still reasonable the Chief explains the the drivers and passengers that they will be required for guard duty as well, predictably this is met by a few groans but the early battle has made everyone aware that there is a need for protection. As darkness falls Ophelia finds herself in the first rotation, with Gryffen due in the second, she finds companionship with Zsena, the older woman she met earlier in the trip and they settle in for guard duty together (Perception Check please for Ophelia) Kai and Gideon are also split up with Kai (Perception check too) first and Gideon later taking their spell on guard.
Animals move in the undergrowth, birds sing their nightsong, and the older drivers seem to unanimously have decided to improve everyone's rest with some enthusiastic snoring but generally things seem peaceful in the camp.

Gryffendoes not know what he is doing. Having never driven a cart before, he finds himself soon hoping fervently for guard duty. The damnable horses pulling his cart only get more stubborn as he tries to direct them along the road. They get ever more frustrated with him as his own frustration makes his directions to the beasts more erratic. Even from a distance, Gryffenis certain he can be spotted for the novice he is. "Ophelia, can we not just tie this cart to yours?"he calls out.
"Now why ever would we do that, my dear halfling?", Ophelia says with a chuckle. "I'm rather enjoying watching you learn on-the-job, but I must say, do stop pulling on your reins so much. I believe the horses prefer to look at the ground ahead of them as they proceed, not the sky."

Later that evening, Ophelia sits with Zsena, cleaning her crossbow in front of a small fire as the stand (or sit in this case) watch. In a curious mood, she breaks the silence first. "Do you find yourself guarding the guards much on this route, then?", she says with her trademark mischievous smile. "Seems to me like they should donate some of their pay to us fearless women."
"Ha, not usually no, but the road had gotten more dangerous of late." Zsena looks out into the darkness, her own crossbow sat across her lap "Mind you, the world is a dangerous place, terrors haunting the night, bandits roaming the wilds, but nothing more fearsome than the noise coming from Old Bence over there" The woman smiles as she nods her head in the direction of a particularly ferocious blast of snoring coming from one of the nearby caravans. "If that doesn't attract predators then I don't know what will."
The night shift passes for both Kai and Ophelia without event, in the dead of night the shift changes and Gideon and Gryffen are asked to take their spells on duty (perception rolls please).

After struggling with the horses for several hours, Gryffenfinds himself giving in and letting the horses do what they want. Things go a lot more smoothly after that, although with occasional falre-ups of antagonism between the halfling and the horses. When his time to go on patrol arrives, Gryffensighs with relief, mounting the smallest available horse, and letting it follow Gideon'smount out to the edge of the caravan's patrol radius.
Gideon chuckles to himself as he sees Gryffens evident relief at being away from the caravan again, pushing his mount forward he scans the country for anything out of the ordinary.
Nothing obvious is seen by either Gideon or Gryffen, the night passes the caravan moves on in the morning and slowly they make their way towards Ameni. Knowing the destination to still be a number of days away some are getting anxious about having to survive another attack but others feel the worst must be behind them. Zsena even goes as far as suggesting they stop earlier to get a bit more rest in even if it means ultimately spending another night in the wilds. Alson seems to be considering the idea.....
Do any of the players want their characters to try to influence the decision?

Without intervention form anyone else Alson shortens the next day's ride, which passes without incident, allowing everyone to have a little more rest, as the night falls and watches are taken Gryffen finds himself sitting on a fallen tree watchign with Zsena, the woman Ophelia has befriended previously. Kai is patrolling around the camp and Gideon and Ophelia are both sleeping.
"We have not spoken much Master Halfling, I am Zsena, I was most impressed with your heroics the other day during the raid, you clearly have some skills not normally associated with a craftsman. I don't mean to pry, just making an observation."

"Well you did well to save that wagon, I mean you aren't the largest of folk but you did a good job getting over there and securing the horses. Anyway I was just making conversation, the night watches seem to take forever if you sit in silence." Despite her own observation Zsena slips into a silence of her own unless prompted by Gryffen.
Kai (Perception to save time 16) sees a number of small animals but nothing of note on his patrol.
As they change shifts and Ophelia and Gideon prepare to start up the four find themselves together, seemingly alone for a minute or two.

"Well, thank you. It seems to have landed me more responsibility than I expected on the trip. I can't manage the blasted horses for the life of me," Gryffen says. "Horses and me never could see eye to eye, as it were."
"I've run this route a dozen times or more, most of them with Alson, he's a decent man, good to those who work for him, which means they are likely to do their jobs properly when the time comes. Which is all you can ask for." She turns to Gryffen and looks him over "What type of craftsman did you say you were? My partner does all the crafting, I do the runs across between the capital and the coast. I like the road, so it works for me."
