The caravan is moving west to east and Kai believes whatever was watching them is to the north.
"I'm pretty sure that whatever it is, is to the north of us"Kai says to Gideon. He looks to the north - what exactly can he see, hills, valleys, badlands, etc.
Gideon rides forward, ignoring a druids hunch out here in the wild could be a costly mistake, casting his gaze north he tries to discern what has spooked Kai.
Gideon muses the thought over "I trust your instincts on this but no I disagree, let's circle back and inform the caravan. We can get all eyes watching the area as we pass by, going up into those hills alone we could be picked off, have the everybody ready for whatever waits for us. We may even come back in force and flush whoever it is out of hiding but I'd rather make a false call now than say nothing and be sorry later" Gideon doesn't bother waiting for a response before continuing. "I'll wait here, if we are being watched it will look as though I have relieved you as point man, you circle back and warn the others I'll follow after a minute"
"Ok" Kai says as he rides back to the caravan and locating Alson and the Chief says "Gideon and I are pretty sure somebody is watching us from the hills over there" pointing in their direction "call it a hunch if you like because we not sure exactly who or what it, Gideon is keeping an eye on them! Do you want Gideon and I to go have a closer look?"

"Yes, but stay safe, no use getting picked off in small groups when together we could hold them off easier." the Chief answers and beckons up another man to give instructions too as well. After instructing him to the font once the two have gone off he wishes Kai luck and moments later the elf and the man move cautiously to the north slightly ahead of the ki e of the caravan.
As they move out the immediately see one problem, many of the hills are not as regularly shaped as it would first appear, they can see several where the back edge falls away sharply, creating a wall high enough to hide several men on horses from anyone looking form a distance.
Gideon spots an outcrop which could help, standing quite a bit higher than the surroundings it would give a good view of the area they want to scout but getting there would mean passing close to an obvious blind spot, where it would be possible to hide enough men to cause the pair, skilled as they are some concern.
Gideon and Kai, you are in the field, how do you proceed?

Kai turns to Gideon "I have some ability to hide us for about an hour as we try and make our way to the top of the outcrop!"He then casts Pass Without Trace (adds +10 to the Character's stealth roll) on them both. He then immediately slips into the magical shadows he has generated and stealthily (we hope - Stealth roll 27) makes his way to the top of the outcrop.
Leaving their horses at the bottom of the hill they are attempting to sneak up Kai's magic helping them blend in to the cover, sparse as it is the pair get up to the top without seemingly alerting anyone. As the caravan's lead wagon pulls about level with them they can see two groups of bandits lying in wait, one is very close, less than fifty feet away from them and thd other another fifty feet back towards the middle of the caravan which runs for about 120 feet in total. Both groups are about sixty feet away from the caravan to the north, Kai and Gideon are a bit closer but need to get back to their horses if they wish to use them.
There are four bandits in the first group and seven in the second, all are mounted. They seem to have a few bows but mostly swords or axes.

Gryffen, tired but alert, stifles another yawn. "Something is plaguing me in my sleep,"he says to Ophelia. "It is as if I am being haunted by the fellow that offed himself. I am not entirely sure how to proceed, since I don't entirely know what it is that is shaping my dreams."
Her cart still situated at the back of the caravan, the half-elf had wrapped her face in a cloth this morning to protect from dust. She pulls this down to speak with Gryffen.
"I never had you down as someone who would be worried about dreams, Gryffen. For what it's worth, I too am disturbed at night by visions of Lord Szetin doing all manner of unspeakable things... but that's all it is, a dream, no more."
She pauses for a moment to look up, and spies Gideon riding back to the head of the caravan.
"Maybe whatever you did or said to your former colleague, you need to repeat it in your dreams, with luck he'll off himself in the afterlife as well as this one."
"No, this is not guilt. I feel no remorse for scaring the lad. After all, I made no choices for him. It is more than a dream, though, as each night I am...drained. If I do see the lad in my dreams, however, I will heed your advice. And if you see anything whilst I sleep, please assist."
Gideon gives a nod to Kai as he descends the hill heading straight for the front of the caravan relaying the information to the chief. "Eleven in total split between the 2 groups, all are mounted." Gideon finishes his report before continuing. "My suggestion chief is we find another route, double back and not take the risk to life, we have eyes on them we could slip away and circle round, bring fighters to the front, cover a withdrawal ."
"If we were to proceed forward we could attack the smaller of the two groups, use the element of surprise we could dictate the fight very well from our position on the outcrop". He says pointing to where Kai is "Defeat in detail chief"
"These are grim tidings, but not completely unexpected, after all that caravan we passed the other day told us they'd been attacked.
There is no point in turning back, they know we are here and how many of us there are. If we attack the smaller group hard we will leave the caravan defenceless against the larger force. But we do need to try and scare them off. With those numbers they can't be confident of victory, they must be looking for a shock attack that cripples a wagon or two and then hope we leave it behind as he retreat."
The chief ponders for a moment, calling up another of the guards to him" Andrek, head down the line, get the drivers to prepare for attack from the North, mounted men take all the rear guard into a group and hold in the middle of the caravan, moving with it. I'm going to go with this fine fellow and surprise a smaller group, move quickly now, good man."
Stringing his longbow he moves his horse easily as he pulls away from the line, heading off with Gideon back towards Kai's position.
