Gryffenholds out his open hands as the guards look to him for his weapons. "I haven't a need for any weapons,"he says in a calm voice. "Besides, this part of town is exceptionally safe. My acquaintance did leave his dagger here yesterday...or maybe it was the day before...and asked me to inquire as to where he might reclaim it."
"Looks like a good weapon, used a longer blade myself back in the day, but these little pigstikkers they give us here don't work so well for me to be honest, this looks more my style though." Sreza says as he fills out the receipt then handing it to Gideon "Nothing to worry about, we'll keep her safe, Sir."
Gideon gets the impression of a very well trained set of guards, professional as well as polite, he could tell that Sreza had also detected the wine on his breath and had assessed his ability with it while they were talking. The procedure as a whole seems to be purely based on the observations of the guards, small weapons would be easy to smuggle in, but larger items would be inspected quickly and efficiently. There seem to be four men, all very capable, used to working with each other, this does not seem like a weak point in the structure.

As Ophelia wanders round the annexe she familiarises herself with the layout, three cabinets display everything between them. The largest contains all the mundane jewellery, there are a total of seven necklaces and half a dozen rings, all are set with precious stones, most commonly rubies, the se ond cabinet contains the gem of light, and the third, sitting squarely in the middle of the space contains the Ioun stone, sitting on a ivory stand. All the cabinets are metal with large glass panels, they appear airtight and the tables are secured to the floor.
Looking for and finding the hatch in the ceiling about ten feet from the ground Ophelia initially wonders how it could be opened but sees a bolt system which is possibly replicated on the outside. The tool for opening it from inside is a six foot pole with a special fitting sitting in an adjacent corner in the northwest of the room. Two guards are visible, one standing next to the main case, the other in the doorway, leading down to a restricted area.

Kai would have left most of his weapons (Longbow, Handaxes, etc) back in the room. He can't quite understand why people would readily give up their weapons but when he sees Gideon hand over his scimitar, he pulls out two wicked looking short-swords from his belt and says "I believe that I have to hand these in here. Please look after them as they were gifts from Grandfather and Father when I came of age. This one is I call 'Ukufa kuza' and this one "Ukulala Okude'!"

A soldier foremost and not a thief Gideon silently moves around the museum and examines the exhibit for what it is. After growing quickly bored of the artefacts and jewels he turns his eyes to the one thing he does know, soldiers. With a keen eye he takes in their positions and what they are guarding, after doing a third and final lap he leaves, reluctantly collecting his well used scimitar he heads outside. The temple over the road stood tall against the cities skyline, the guards here he thought would be close by and are well armed if things went south quickly. He had no need of praying here, if it was a patron he looked for he would find it somewhere else. Finding a bench Gideon sits in silence and watches the day go by the wine his silent companion.

Ophelia
Silently browsing the displays, she attempts to identify a mechanism to open the cabinets, before producing a small bag and dropping it near one of them, causing the contents to spill out. With an audible sigh, as if this isn't the first time today this has happened, she drops to her knees to start picking up coins, keys, and a small apple, while glancing underneath the table to check for anything interesting on the underside. Standing up, she eats the apple while slowly looking at the rest of the jewels, before heading outside and back to the Fountain.
Gryffenwalks from exhibit to exhibit looking at each of them with an uncritical eye. He reads a few of the descriptions but finds little connection to any of the pieces. On a whim, he looks around for a docent or an obvious frequent patron. In front of the Ioun stone, he solicits some explanation.
"These descriptions are...informative, but they don't tell any story. Who owned this magical rock? Who created it? How did it get here?"
"Found in the Cities it says here, if that's so then we'll probably never know who owned it, strange to think that it is supposed to float around our heads, you'd think it would be annoying, or somebody would just grab it and dash off! Then where would you be?" A well groomed elderly gentleman replies to the halfling before ambling off to look at the gem of light.

Back at the fountain in their private room they see Dejan sitting in the chair he seems to have made his own looking very pleased with himself, a small wooden chest in front of him on the table next to an empty glass of wine and a plate showing scant remains of what appeared to have once been a plate of ribs in a spicy sauce.
"I could get used to the amenities here, I must say you are being spoilt, and I have even more to offer so please grab a drink and something to eat and I will show you what I have here and will listen to what you have discovered." The man gestures to the bar and the sideboard which currently contains a large platter of fruit and a tureen of soup which smells of highly spiced seafood as well as the aforementioned ribs laid out with a selection of sauces, several loaves of freshly baked bread, and a range of vegetables to accompany them. Again you all note that these items come from all over the empire at considerable cost no doubt.
When everybody has assembled Dejan moves to the business in hand with a smile as he opens the box. Reaching inside he produces five small stones, each carved with a number, heavily stylized and decorated with exquisite care. Handing them out he calls the number as he hands them over "One, ladies first" as he passes it to Ophelia, "Two, Sir Bytan", "Three, our friend form the Western Reaches" as he passes a stone to Kai, "Four, our deadly monk" handing the stone to Gryffen and holding up the final stone he smiles and slips it into his pocket "Five, last and least, for myself until we find a better use for it at anyway. The stones are for sending to each other when we are far apart, they work within this plane of existence, wherever you are you will hear each other. You can say no more than 25 words, and once you use the magic it cannot be used again until the sun has risen on a new day. What one person speaks all will hear, unless the stone is away from your person." Looking back into the chest he produces another item a ring, golden and engraved with a purple stone set deep inside the metal. "This is a ring to shield you minds from anyone attempting to read your mind. I have only one to give you and I have to say that it carries it's own risks, whilst your mind will be shielded it is in itself an indication that you do not want your thoughts read and are actively taking steps to prevent it. MOst people do not have such secrets that they would feel the need to wear one, if somebody attempts to read your thoughts while you wear this they will not be able to, but you can guarantee they will be curious what you have to hide. The better strategy might be to not be in contact with anyone who can read your thoughts, but then, if i was that simple..." he trails off "Well I give it to you to use as you see fit. And I am not yet done!" Reaching into the box he pulls out a small flat box which he hands to Gideon "The contents of this box are charming, there are 8 pieces of paper which will become paper birds once you have written a brief note on them and said the name of the person you wish to contact. They will then fly to that person before turning themselves back inot a normal piece of paper with your message attached. The could come in very useful when you cannot use the stones or want to contact somebody else but we were only able to procure a few of them."
"Ophelia, you seem to have a good mind for schemes of all natures, which I mean in the nicest of ways, of course. You may be interested in this, it is a very strong sleeping spell, harmless unless the recipient is standing on the roof of a building or something." he says handing over a small pot "Our people have managed to create it as an oil, which could be applied to a surface, or by using gloves yourself touching a person directly. By the time they realise what is happening they will be unable to even call out and you would need to be a giant to withstand even a small dose, they will then be unreachable for a minute or so and if left undisturbed will sleep for hours. We have enough for two, maybe three applications in total in this pot and we currently have no others."
"I am still looking to expand on your resources to be ready before we go, but one last thing ready now are these." Reaching inside his cloak he withdraws a small bag which makes the sound of glass against glass "Be careful, it would be such a shame to drop them." Dejan says to Gryffen as he hands over the bag which the halfling sees are full of a dozen small glass vials containing a red thick liquid Gryffen has seen before and recognises as Potions of Healing.
"Hopefully these gifts will serve you well. But please, tell me of your findings."
Ophelia, always quick to reply, begins "The guards are attentive but professional, they seem numerous enough to have all sections covered at all times. The room we are targeting contains three chests, the most valuable items are in individual cases displayed alone. The third case contains a great many jewels. There is no locking mechanisms on the glass top layer of the displays, the locks are underneath and there are quite a few on each side of the Ioun stone's stand, it appears you would need to unlock at least three and possibly six small locks to access it and there is a mysterious box sat directly beneath it that I do not know what it does."
"I can help there" Kai interjects "It is almost certainly part of an alarm system"The elf continues on "I noticed a couple of small copper wires running from the plinth holding the stone down into the base of the unit, the wires were under tension, I suspect a weight being removed would set off an alarm hidden under the display. By disabling the box we could probably stop the alarm easily enough."
Rejoining the conversation Ophelia mentions the hatch to the ceiling "There is a way out onto the roof of the annexe which was shown on the maps provided, the hatch needs to be opened by the pole they keep in the room, a man could easily fit through it. The maps showed a similar one going on to the main roof, I didn't investigate there myself but the hatch may be similar."
Dejan coughs and begins speaking, looking a little bit sheepish "It is, it is exactly the same - I had a tour around the facility recently when they opened the new wing, a couple of the men who work there served with me in years gone by and one invited me to see the building, well my eyes look for details like that, they only problem you'll have accessing that hatch if you need to is getting up from the last accessible floor for the public up the staff stairs at the back of the building. They are rarely used but anyone seeing you would be suspicious."
Gideon shaking his head wryly at the interjection from Dejan speaks next. "The guards outside the building take a long time to walk a circuit and are easily distracted and the Temple Guards are too far away to see much from where they are, unless we time things badly, if we get leave the museum without having the guards chasing us nobody on the ground outside is going to see us."
Gryffen nods in agreement "Everything you have said is in line with what I saw, the guards for the museum working outside were repeatedly stopped by passersby and distracted, they spend large parts of each lap unable to see the majority of the perimeter, we should be able to evade them easily during the day, and at night the route is still long with the building itself causing shadows and blindspots everywhere."
Dejan stands, filling his wine glass and turning back to the group. "So you have all this information, what do you propose to do with it?" Sitting in his chair he swirls the wine theatrically before taking a sip as he waits for the crew to begin their plans.

"Oh, and there is one more thing," Gryffen says. "They keep the weapons left behind in a lost and found room near the entrance. It would not be hard for us to leave something innocuous-seeming behind that could serve us remotely."
"So many gifts Dejan, I should work for the Empire more often..." She pockets 3 of the healing potions, the oil and her sending stone in various pockets on her person, before pouring herself a small glass of wine.
"Two more things actually, Gryffen. I might have a trump card for you all to consider..." Ophelia takes a sip of her drink, crosses one leg over the other, and begins. "You'll be pleased to hear I'm not here purely for my good looks and stunning wit. I happen to be rather good at posing as someone else and getting people to do things for me. I have an alter ego based in Dzenda I've been working on for a while; the daughter of a local lord, who is secretly courting another lord hoping to marry me to crawl up the social and political ladders in the city. The real daughter has no knowledge of this lord's interest in her, and I keep all meetings with the lord clandestine. My lord believes this is to hide the relationship from my 'father', who heartily disapproves of my beloved. He is under the impression I am trying to bring my 'father' round the the idea of marriage, and is content to only have dealings with me, when I say so - for the time being."
Ophelia pauses to let the information sink in, looking round everyone to make sure she has a captive audience. "I can arrange a meeting with him, as we have not seen each other in a while. Perhaps I arrange a meeting, and he uses his influence and coin to let us be alone in the museum annexe together for a 'private viewing'. This oil Dejan has provided could be useful to knock out him, and any guards that might get in the way, giving us time to open the cabinets, take the jewels, and escape through the hatch in the ceiling. How the rest of you get in is open to debate, maybe via the hatch if you fancy climbing, maybe you hide down those stairs we saw in the annexe beforehand."
"We are aware of your scheme Ophelia, it was one of the aspects that recommended you to us in the first place, you have laid a comprehensive groundwork that we can certainly use in this situation. I think your plan will work, given the correct support. Mostly, I am concerned with the rest of the team accessing, and then exiting the area. Even after identifying the traps there is no guarantee they will not have to be sprung considering the short time frame you will have to work in, you are also talking about a descent of about thirty feet to the ground, having a rope on you as you enter will be a very clear sign of intent. How do you all plan to resolve this?" Dejan steeples his fingers and looks across the group, waiting for ideas.

"You know silk rope is fairly easy to conceal, particularly if we all take a 10 foot length each which we could wind around our bodies under our clothes" Kai suggests in response to Dejan's probing.
"We do not need to go down. We could also escape to a neighboring rooftop. That will still require rope, of course. But perhaps it could be shot to someone waiting on the roof, either from the neighboring rooftop or from the ground." Gryffen scratches his chin. "I could try to teach you all how to properly fall, but I doubt we truly have the time for that. I have practiced landing safely from falls of more than 50 foot high drops. Arguably, if I was the only one escaping from the roof, we would need no rope at all. Hmmm....Perhaps I could get to the roof in advance and leave a rope there for us."
Gryffen holds out his open hands as the guards look to him for his weapons. "I haven't a need for any weapons," he says in a calm voice. "Besides, this part of town is exceptionally safe. "Oh, and there is one more thing," Gryffen says. "They keep the weapons left behind in a lost and found room near the entrance. It would not be hard for us to leave something innocuous-seeming behind that could serve us remotely."
Ophelia,
"So many gifts Dejan, I should work for the Empire more often..." She pockets 3 of the healing potions, the oil and her sending stone in various pockets on her person, before pouring herself a small glass of wine.
