This will be a homebrew game set in a world of my creation. I will only give a brief overview of the world in this thread however if you wish for more details feel free to PM me. The world is made up primarily of 4 main islands. A long time ago, the races were clearly split between the islands, however, over time and with the development of ships that were capable of long-distance travel, people have travelled between the lands. There is still a majority of the original races in each place though, with some more defined than others.
Elgard (where this campaign will start) was originally where humans, orcs and goliaths came from. It is mostly grassland and forests and also has a small island off the northeast that is home to many druids of various races.
Dustnor is a mostly desert land inhabited mostly by gnomes and halflings. Most of the people in Dustnor are artificers of a kind, and the three largest cities there fly (through a combination of magical and mechanical power).
Aeris is where the elves and the dwarfs originate from, with most of the elves living in the forests around a central mountain, while the dwarfs lived in or on the mountain. There is a good relationship between them with some elves even going to live in the mountain with the dwarfs leading to a new subrace of Mountain Elves (I haven't created the homebrew yet but it is similar to drow. There is no Underdark and therefore drow in this world)
Xenoth, the land of Dragons. This is a land as varied as it's people, with cold mountains and scorching deserts and everything in between. Due to an ancient war where demons tried to invade through Xenoth, it has led to the creation of Dragonborn and Tieflings. Only the oldest of dragons were alive during the war, and even then they would have been youngsters. Xenoth is ruled by a council consisting of an even split of Dragons, Dragonborn and Tieflings that are elected in.
There is somewhere where the animal races come from but unlike the other places, this is secretive, known only to those who have been there. If you wish to play an animal race then feel free to PM me for info.
If you are still interested after all that here are the rules for character creation:
No Ravnica, Eberron or Underdark races.
Artificer and Crit role is allowed
Start at level 3
Milestone levelling
No evil alignments
Abilities rolled in the thread (4d6 drop lowest can be rearranged)
Race/Class: Variant Human Blood Hunter (Profane Soul)
Short Description: A strong young man of common birth bearing hand-me-down equipment. Those who know him know him to be kind and helpful to the needy, belligerent towards bullies, exceptionally street-smart, and yet astoundingly ignorant of the world he now travels. His hands always seem to be a little cold to the touch.
Backstory: A little less than a decade ago, Brevalaer was a carpenter's son in a small village beset by a malignant creature of fey origin. Where it walked, winter walked with it, and so even in the middle of summer the villagers watched as their crops withered and died. Brevalaer hated to see his village in such desperate straights, and became determined in that way only the young and foolish tend to. He grabbed his father's woodcutting hatchet, stole an old boar spear from above the local tavern's mantelpiece, grabbed a lantern, and set out to either drive off or kill the beast.
The night grew colder as he grew closer, and it wasn't long before a cold wind blew out his light, and left him only with the full moon to find his way. Still he pressed on, his senses sharp and wits about him, but his knowledge of the forest and the manner of beast he hunted were failing him at every turn. It wasn't long before he was lost and stumbling about blindly when he found it. An inhumanly beautiful woman stood illuminated by moonlight, the winter following her every step. He confronted her, demanded she leave his village be, to which her only response was to ask what he was willing to offer for such a thing. The cold dulling his senses, and not realizing the danger, he merely said, "Anything." The woman smiled and said, "Then take my hand, and your village will be saved."
He awoke in the village the next morning, and all who saw him knew of the foolish bargain he'd struck. While he looked no worse for wear, he was always colder to the touch than most would be, and though his actions lifted the summer blizzard, the fear in the eyes of the villagers was more than enough to drive him to wander. Though he knew not why, he knew the cold woman was watching him, and lending him her power as he wandered, righting wrongs wherever his conscience spurred him to act. Occasionally, he'd have strange dreams, gain the faintest inklings of the cold woman's desires, but save for that first night, he's never seen her.
"EEEEH? What's that sonny? Speak up, you're mumbling, boy."
The old dragonborn leans forward over his bowl of stewed mouse.
"You damn millennials these days, embarrassing. No spine to speak of. Can't hold a god damned job. Would have been eaten alive during the war, mark my words. Did I tell you I was a hero during the war? You're damn right!"
The old veteran coughs uncontrollably, interrupting his tirade.
"I can still hold a sword better than any of you. Heh. Back in my day, I killed them by the dozens. Rhogar the defiant, they called me. Trembled when I stepped on the battlefield. Hah! There weren't none of these newfangled flying crap machines from Dustnor back then. Bunch of moron kids crashing into things.
The dragonborn tries to get up, shakily grabbing his sword to demonstrate. The blade falls down with a tremendous clatter.
Short description/Personality/Backstory: Rhogar is an elderly veteran of the Great War of Xenoth. He's one of the last survivors, and barely able to take care of himself, but in his mind he's still a dashing young captain. He has disdain for the new generation of "millennials", as he calls them, who don't know how the fight the Old Way, and just waste their time with stupid Illusion magic and Dustnorian gadgetry. He's as stubborn as a goat and can barely stand up without his knees giving way. Back in the day, he indeed was a tremendous hero, and his feats were the stuff of legend. Strong, dashing, and skilled, he inspired troops and rallied hope under his banner. He was determined and quick thinking. Now, at the ripe old age of 82, he's frustrated with the new world that has gone soft. Nobody understands the sacrifices his generation made for freedom. He lives on a modest pension, and barks out orders at the state caretakers that come to his home three times a week to make sure he's fed, washed, and taking his medicine. His goddamn medicine. He doesn't want to take it, but the halfling nurse strong armed his beak open the last time he resisted, which was humiliating.

Name: Cassius Dragonsbane Race/Class: human (variant) / Fighter Backstory: Cassius is born into a hunting tribe. They took great pride in their abilities. Some hunted giants some dragons some took pride in their ability to make the seas a little safer. Most of the people in the tribe used tactics that required melee combat. Cassius never could wield a blade very well. He found them clumsy. He did, however, take a lighting to bows of all shapes and sizes. Allowing him to strike with greater precision and from afar.
Eladrin (or your homebrew elf) Fighter - Gunslinger
A slim elf that barely looks like it can raise the cannon he lifts up. This Ash skinned elf with White hair Shaved along the sides, but drapes over the top. Light colored eyes with a faint blue hue. A pleasant elf, that tends to think on the logical side of things; often citing reason over emotion. He has learned that there are two ways two help people. Aid the good people, or take out the bad.
Growing up in Aeris amongst the rocks and stone. Adnelis has two lives in his life: guns and books. His father an adventurer himself spent most of Adnelis’ childhood away from home only briefly coming back every so often to drop off his rewards and his stories. A single mother most of the time to Adnelis, his mother Wyendylla, took her son to work where she cleaned the library and book stores . She always pushed him to study and what better place than the library? Once of age and after his father’s retirement, Adnelis set off for his own adventures. He can’t quite get his mother’s voice out the back of his head and finds himself in every bookstore or library he comes across.

Background Venny were borne into the little known wizard-dominated village of Burnt, a very hot spot on the hilly deserts of Xenoth. It's a perfect place to study fire-based spells and even fire itself. Ancient maps in the High Sage's library revealed that there should be a wizard's tower somewhere in the Burnt area however noone could find the entrance, to much frustration for all. Of course Venny one day fell into a sudden hole in the ground and landed somewhere inside the lost tower and revealed a round, partly ruined bedroom with a few bookcases and chests with more books. Venny found a spellbook and a diary in what must once have been a secret room inside the stone wall but now revealed. The spellbook contained only one spell called Unravel Dragon but what it was for she could'nt quite grasp. But the diary was written by the spell's creator and it revealed the spell would turn a dragon's inner power against itself, destroying the dragon from the inside out. She realized this was a dangerous spell that could tip the balance of power in all of Xenoth against the dragons. Not wanting to harm any dragon she decided to hide the ancient spell by gluing empty pages over the spell pages, then writing her own spells on the now apparently empty spellbook. Then she burned the diary to ash. This was serious stuff. Time to grow up, she decided, and leave Xenoth behind.
Venny of Burnt left Xenoth 16 years ago and settled here in Elgard, not just to study magic but also to raise a family, two sons aged 14 and 13, and twin daughters aged 11. Venny had until recently been a teacher at a local arcane high school but due to some unsupported opinions and writings she lost her academic credentials... and job.

Short description/personality: He is very aloof, does not trust easily, and has a distaste for bandits, especially orc and human bandits.
Backstory: Angorn is the last member of his wood elf clan. He watched from the trees, after a solo hunting/training trip into the forest, as his clan was wiped out by a marauding group of human and orc bandits. He has become a guide to others to help try and keep them safe from groups of bandits and those who would take advantage of them. Even though his clan was wiped out except for him, he still holds them in the highest regard and strives to be the best that he can be in hopes that they will be proud of their only legacy. Due to the tragic event He is very slow to trust, and is not the easiest person to be around until you you get on his good side.
The most anyone gets to know about Salahdin is that he is a mercenary and good with a sword. You either fight beside him, die in front of him or watch from behind. He isn't the most intelligent or good looking, but he sure is damn good to have in a fight. Willing to follow orders or just slaughter his enemy.
He was a spell casting mercenary for a team of Gith who had been out hunting and for his people. He found himself on Xenoth in his search when his team was beaten back in their hunt. They found a group of travelers from Elgard and joined them to go back and reinforce before heading back on their hunt.
Ginaz is a fighter concerned about dominating his enemies, but also focuses on protecting those in the back lines by jumping to the front in battle.
