Someway or another you all find yourselves in Mythsore. Some of you searching for work, some of you just searching. For a large town, both home to the navy and one of the main trade cities, there is a lot of similar jobs. Help this merchant do this, help sail this boat. However most of these jobs don't seem to pay enough. The job that catches your eye the most is an advert by a Louisa Freemantle who is looking to bring her latest shipment of goods back to her family run business in Highwater, the capital. Offering 5gp a day, paid in instalments at a couple of small towns the caravan will pass through, it seems like good money. Any of you who have been to the capital before will know that Freemantle's Fantastic Wares is a respectable business selling practically any (non-magical) item you might wish to acquire. Seeking people to guard against bandits, keep watch during the night and even help with talking to tricky customers along the way. There really is a job for anyone.
Henricook looks at the advert in curiosity. Need help from bandits? Henricook can do that. But who was this lady? Who cares. While arguing with himself internally, he looks around for someone to either accept the job or just to look at his surroundings.
Angorn studies the advert board, looking for jobs that didn't involve being in the city. One caught his eye but there was someone else standing in front of it. Instead of interacting with this person, Angorn takes a few steps back and waits for them to move on. Thinking to himself he needs to get out of this place as quickly as possible.
Sweat drenched Zacks form, having just finished his daily routine of exercises to keep himself in shape. Soft breaths escaped to emphasize this, though he quite clearly wasn't winded in the slightest. With clothing over his chainmail, almost making the solider look as if he were unarmored, except for the battlescarred pauldrons guarding his shoulders. Wearing what appeared to be a sort of sweatervest of deep royal blue, somewhat loose pants, held on by several belts that acted as a soft guard for his abdomen, black shoes that seemed more suited for marching or climbing than casual walking. Strapped to his back, was a massive, razor of a sword, a larger than average greatsword, with a blade, only on one side.
A sharp, angular face, almost made him look Elvish, but it was clear that he was human, from every other distinguishing feature. Across his chin, was a crossed scar, likely received in some battle from before. But the most prominent feature his visage held, was the soft, glowing blue of his eyes. He was more than a normal weapons fighter, though nothing too special. Standing at 6'3" he could easily see over most of the people gathering around the board to see what was available.
One particular one caught his eye, an escort mission, essentially.. that was much more up his alley than the rest of these.. and Zack preferred to keep dry, solid land, beneath him. But this would pay 'O.K.' and allow him to travel a bit, get to see more of this island he called home, which would eventually help him fulfill his dream.
So, Anyone else considering this one? The Escort job? he asks to the people gathered around, both sincerely asking to sate his curiosity, as much as to find out who he may be competing with for the spot, or who he might be working with, so he can size them up.
Angorn sighed, he wondered if it would be worth taking this job, just from seeing who was interested in it so far. He shifts from to his other foot and rolls his eye before saying I am thinking of taking this job as well. I normally work alone but a bigger group means bigger protection. I hope you can swing that stick as easily as you can run. He shifts his bow on his shoulder and tightens his dagger belt before turning to get a better look at the advert.
It isn't hard to see a couple of wagons nearby with Freemantle's Fantastic Wares nearby, currently being guarded by some of the local militia, with a female human sitting on one of them, having a drink, with a greatsword by her side.
Zack nodded in affirmation at the Elf, who was either a fighter, a ranger, or just a unique combatant of some sort, all assumptions based on the persons bow alone. And with a smirk he would reply I haven't quite mastered that yet, but whenever I run into thieves or rogues or others of that nature, I've been trying to study how exactly they move so fast without it hindering their combat, to enhance my own. A rogue is deadly because their fast. I am deadly because I'm strong. But what if I put those two together?he finished, his smirk growing ever wider. Not that it matters, but I've already integrated a low level of magic into my fighting style.. though.. I didn't really have much choice.... in that. A brief flash crosses the otherwise upbeat face of the soldier darkens for a moment, his eyes searching for a memory that he couldn't seem to find Anyways, if I combine that with what I already have, I feel I'll be a monster in a fight. Atleast something "bad" people will be wary of engaging with in a fight. Also... he says, as he starts to notice the wagons nearby, sporting the same name as was on the poster, and deciding to take advantage of this.. The early bird catches the worm. Catch ya later!
With that, Zack salutingly waves farewell to the Elf, as he makes a brisk jog towards the wagons bearing the 'Freemantle' insignia/logo.
As Zack approaches the wagon, he offers a friendly smile, raising his hand into the air to make himself more visible. His eye catching the greatsword resting nearby You have amazing taste in weapons (OOC - And if the woman is within her younger years, he will add and it makes you look as fierce as you are cute) (Charm/Persuasion: 23) Also I just read the posting for an escort job, and this seems like where I'm supposed to if I want to join it?
"Seems like a nice opportunity as I've never been to the capital" Venny leans against one of the wagons marked with the "Freemantle's Fantastic Wares" company name, without noticing the company name, and say Freemantle... Freemantle, sounds familiar, but can't quite remember where I've seen that name before".
Henricook looks at the man who asked about him running to the wagon and follows him. A Crow seems to appear on his back, like magic. he holds a Yklwa, and his feathers are as black as the night sky. Is this for the job back there on the advert?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Angorn sighs to himself and wonders if this is indeed something he should be doing... He looks hopefully one more time at the board trying to find something that he could accomplish by himself and that wasn't a kill mission, or a fetch and return quest...because he wasn't a dog to retrieve things for others who thought themselves to big for such activities. Sadly nothing pops out. He turns to the merchant caravan and asks the woman with the greatsword Do you have a spot open for a ranger? Due to his distrust of humans he first meets he tries to see if there is anything underlying that he can detect (Insight roll 10)
Zack: The woman is in her late 20s/early 30s so depends how young you class "early years". "With a weapon as fine as yours, I believe you will be a fine escort for this caravan, if you know how to use it." She jumps down and reaches a hand out to you, "Louisa Freemantle"
She looks over her shoulder at Venny, "You looking for a job with the Freemantle caravan? You are in the right place if you look at the wagon you are leaning on. What skills do you offer?"
She sees Henricook coming over, and does a double take. "A bird person? I haven't seen one of your kind before. You must have travelled far. Yes, I am Louisa Freemantle. I see you have a blade, can you use it?
After Angorn asks his question, she smiles. "Of course. We will be travelling through some plains and some forests so I expect you will be good at spotting potential dangers and also maybe hunting food?" (She seem genuine, glad to have people turning up who actually seem competent)
Angorn perks up a little bit at hearing they will travel through the forest. He sighs thankfully and says Then my bow is your service. He bows and extends his hand toward her to shake on it. I look forward to this endeavor.
Zack offers his own hand, taking hers, and shaking it firmly, gripping with some of his strength behind it, not as a point of showing off, but as a sign of respect between two heavy weapons fighters offering her a curt nod and a shake, and ending the handshake at about the proper time. I am known to have some skill with it, but there's always room for improvement. A blade that sits idle only collects rust, as the saying goes. Zack Fair. Pleasure to meet you. Hopefully we'll be working together for a while. Everyone else here? never met em before, well except the Elf Ranger whom I met a moment ago - More or less. (OOC - Indeed the 20-30 range)
So, when do we set out? And where are the places we'll be stopping at along the way? I've never been outside my own town, or this one before, But my former career in the Miitary made sure we were atleast aware of the other places. Speaking of.. I hail from near Westhaven. No relation to the Nobles though.
Kra-osh steps forward towards the wagon ”Is this everyone for the job?” he says looking around ”Looks like it... What are we waiting for?” he says while polishing his handaxe. Kra-osh is a very pale Goliath Paladin with grey eyes, he's wielding a handaxe in one hand, and has razor sharp claws that he uses as weapons, each nail is a different color, but both hands share the same colors between them (Red, white, black, green, and blue). Kra-osh is wearing chain mail, with simple traveling clothes underneath. He always has a stern look on his face and doesn't really care for anything but helping people to appease his god (Dunatis, God of mountains and peaks)
Louisa looks around at everyone there. "You all seem like you have a talent that would be useful. Better than some people who came just for the coin and would probably have got themselves and everyone else killed. We will leave in the morning (It is about midafternoon now) so if you have anyone to see or anything to do I suggest you do that. I am willing to sell you things from my caravan if you wish, with a small discount as you are working for me, though if you buy something and don't turn up tomorrow morning, I will make sure you are found by the guard to pay the full amount."
She looks Zack, "Well charming fellow, we will be stopping off at Maplebrook, Riverbend and Goldgrain"
Angorn browses the wares and purchases 2 bundles of arrows (40 total), a healer's kit, 3 hunting traps. and a whetstone for a total of 19g 90s and 1c
(OOC did I do my math correctly?)
Angorn looks at Louisa and asks, Out of which gate will you be traveling tomorrow? I do not feel right inside this city, I will be leaving it behind as quickly as I can. I can try to forage for anything you might need or go hunting if you need more meat. But I need to know where to look for you in the morning.
