Cyndral stops abruptly at the sight of the glow, instinctively putting a hand on his sword hilt. He studies the glow carefully, not sure what to make of it. Apprehensively, he contemplates El's previous advice about taking the lead of things, at least for a moment, and quietly asks, "We should send scouts before we put the whole group into it. Shiskakli, Gnarls, Jimjar? Would any of you mind slipping ahead and taking a look?"
Before now, none of you would have used the word gracious to describe Gnarls but seeing him make his way across the bridge, the word does pop in to your heads. Gnarls moves quickly and quietly up to an archway in the rocks on the other side of the bridge. Getting closer Gnarls sees that the entrance is about 15ft wide and a similar size in height. It leads to another long passageway through the rock. The small luminous mushrooms grow on the walls, lighting up the way through. Gnarls stops and listens, unable to hear anything untoward up ahead.
El makes a face as though a little embarrassed, "I've never really had any reason to learn about religion or those who follow it. I'm an entertainer myself, mostly music and magic but I dabble in painting, comedy, poetry and storytelling." To demonstrate El takes a pebble from the ground, holds it in one hand and slowly closes their fingers around it. With a blow they open their hand and the pebble vanishes, only to reappear in their pocket where they draw it from a moment later.
Sleight Of Hand: 12
Spoiler for anyone who is watching the magic trick and can follow what is happening (roll an opposing insight roll):
El secretly picks up two stones and pockets one while showing the other, when they close their hand around the visible pebble they actually palm it off
As the group nears the bridge El slows with Tobias, El tucks away the carving and their small knife as it wouldn't make the most effective weapon. They unsling their stolen shield and ready themself with the rest of the group. El begins to walk across the bridge confidently once Gnarls gives the all clear but keeps a hand near their sword and an eye on the cavern around them.
Perception: 16 (presume no disadvantage because of Verim's shield but if there is: 9)
OoC: You can ignore the perception check since we left already or use it for the new area
El looks around to ensure the groups safety but doesn’t see anything that catches their eyes or ears. The group hurries on up to Gnarls and makes their way into the passage way. Another hour of fast walking goes by before tiredness begins to slow everyone down a little bit. Seeing the pace of the group change, Gnarls starts looking out for a good place to rest as you all keep moving. It doesn't take long for you to stumble across 3 caves on the right hand side of the corridor, all very close to each other. The first one is an average size with a small opening, the second is a small cave with a small opening and the third is a large cave with a large opening to go with it. There's also a small alcove on the left hand side of the tunnel which could be a good lookout spot. This is just opposite the small cave.
El goes to have a look in each of the caves with Gnarls right behind them. The medium sized cave has a single Stalagmite standing in the center. The small cave is empty and the large cave has 2 fairly large stalagmites and a deep hole that spans across about 15ft going straight down into the darkness below.
"I dunno bout you but I'd rather be cramped than sleep beside that and risk seeing what crawls out of it." El says, looking back at Gnarls. "Plus that entrance doesn't seem like the easiest to defend and if we want a fire then it'll be much harder to warm a large space."
OoC: El is looking for Gnarls' opinion on the space rather than passing a concrete judgement.
"I don't want any part of that hole. We may not have a choice though. Can we all.fit in here?" Gnarls looks inside the medium room to gauge size and get a better look at the stalagmite.
"Fast hands,"Tobias grunts. "You would do well in the seedier parts of Mirabar with talents like that."He then waves his hands at the feet of the human causing a tremor below El. "I can do 'tricks' too." He grins slightly and looks at them with glowing orange eye. He then follows behind toward the tunnel where the halfling dashed to investigate.
The half-orc pokes his head into each cave. "We don't have to pile into one cave,"he states while pointing the smaller two caves. "It could be good not to have all our eggs in one basket if something finds us while we rest."
”You certainly are a mysterious individual El, you remind me much of an old friend I used to know, she too knew how to titilate a crowd in the warmth of heart of Performance and entice those with tricks”
Verim will apply light to his shield again after the hour to keep the light emanating from his shield, especially if the mushrooms stopped emanating light. Verim will also take some of them to inspect later on. As Verim joins everyone at the caves he takes in his surroundings.
“Well we have made it, some kind of solace at least. I don’t know about everyone else but I’m certainly in dire need for f some rest, I’m happy to stay anywhere at the moment but I agree we should probably split into groups for the caves, I have material and parchment for a fire, I don’t know what could be in that hole but I’m more than happy after some rest to cast light on an object and at least throw it down to see how deep it is?”
Verim will proceed to walk into the the average size cave with the small opening using his shield for the light source, he will place it on the ground in the centre, change its colour to match the luminous nature of the mushrooms as not to highlight his presence to others in the cave system if any may arrive. He will proceed to pull out his new found blue blanket cloth and place it at the back of the cave, he will bless it by removing his amulet and placing it down on the cloth. He will stand up after a short moment and stick his head out from the cave.
”I am unsure on how many members of our party will be able to fit in here but I’d be honoured to anyone whom may want to do so with a simple farmer from Alaron”
Verim chuckles slightly, as he goes back inside, he walks over to his blanket, picks, up his amulet, sits down and crosses his legs to face towards the entrance of the cave, he will wait for any who come in, he will pull out his new dice and a pewter goblet and practice rolling on the cave floor.
El simply flashed a sly grin at Verim and Tobias' comments. Now in the cave El laughs at being compared to an egg, the laugh doesn't in fact seem strained or forced despite their situation. "I'll take the smaller basket if that's the case," a light smile that shines mostly through their eyes which twinkle in the low light. They shakes their head at Verim's offer, "Not sure I even want to know what's down there; as long as it doesn't bother me I'm happy to leave it in the unknown."
With that El marches into the smaller of the two caves that lack a giant scary hole and slides off their pack. They jump up and down to loosen their shoulders and unstrap their bedroll, "I gotta hit the hay, y'all get settled wherever." They roll out their bedding and and remove their various blades, setting them around their makeshift bed in places easy to reach and tucking a dagger under their pillow, they snuggle into the bed and appear to be sleeping.
Shishakli grins at the trick that El did (passive perception 14), but has no need to comment at the moment. He'll take a seat on the ground between the caves and say "I'll keep the first watch, though I think we've put a bit of distance between us." ((should I roll? We did in the OOC... just in case: 22)) To the twins he'll say aloud, in gnomish
"Hopefully we can get you home soon. Though I feel that I'll need to stay with this group. They seem lost in our world..."
While keeping a watch he'll count his arrows and bolts, attempting to organize his pack, and try to sketch a simple map of where they've been.
Listening to everyone chatter about which cave they want to rest in, and smiling at the change of attitudge that seemed to come over them all at the small amount of relief, Cyndral follows Shishakli's example and sets himself up for guard duty, announcing to any who will listen, "Rest is well deserved, for all of us, but we aren't free of danger just yet. We will need to always keep an eye open, at least until we reach a town with walls between us and whomever Ilvara musters to pursue us. For now, let's focus on watches. There's enough of us that we can rotate every two hours or so, making sure everyone gets plenty of chances to rest. Four watches in all, at least two people to a watch. I'll go first with Shishakli, who should we wake up when we're through?
Shuushar, Stool, Topsy and Turvy move into the small cave with El. Stool says to El “So where are you from then El? It sounds like you’re quite well traveled”
Drendil and JimJar make their way into the medium cave with Verim, Drendil clutches his bleeding side which he has now managed to cover with a bit of cloth from JimJar’s shirt. JimJar watches Verim rolling his dice “Don’t you just love games of chance”
Eldeth looks into the large cave “I agree with Cyndral. I don’t trust an unguarded entrance. I’ll rest near this hole in the ground to keep an eye on it” Eldeth makes her way into the large cave, followed by Sarith who looks for a place to rest in the bigger cave. Ront, attempting but failing to be quite says to Tobias “Ront don’t trust a dwarf and a Drow to keep us safe. Ront will watch them”
Gnarls settles down in the medium cave with Verim and co. Smiling at JimJar, Gnarls says "I owe you these JimJar. You did good back there." and hand JimJar 4 gp. "Verrim, do you feel better? You took some heavy shots escaping. Your powers...I have not seen their like before. They do not seem like the usual arcane magic I know of. Where you do you get them from?"
"Whoever is on watch can also keep on eye on that cave as well," Tobias suggests to Eldeth. "I see no reason why we shouldn't keep the two smaller caves. We have a nice spot over there," pointing to the alcove on the left, "for one watch to post up at that provides some cover and the second can sit out the mouth of the large cave."
"I will take a watch shift. Would either of you join me?"he asks looking to the three he is trying to usher out of the large cave - Eldeth, Sarith and Ront. "That goes for everyone else," he says to the rest of the group (NPCs). "Those that have trouble seeing in lower light should take a shift with another where that is not a problem. We will need some of the rest of you to help by taking a watch shift as well," his gaze falling mostly to Drendil and Jim Jar
After the watch is settled, Tobias makes his way to the small cave and begins the process of removing his armor, leaving the padded underarmor on. With that done he begins his 'nightly' ritual in quiet prayer to Torm before easily drifting off to sleep as the stress of the day has thoroughly worn him out.
El groans and dramatically lols their head in the direction of Stool, opening their eyes to look at the little creature with mock disdain. Despite their theatrics it's clear that they weren't actually sleeping and are still wide awake. Via the telepathic spores El volunteers for one of the watches, "I'll take the third or fourth, I need my beauty sleep but not that much of it."
El rummages in their pack for their carving and sits back to whittle while they talk aloud to Stool, "Most recently I was traveling through Blingdenstone where I was performing, much of my crowd were native to the Underdark and hadn't the appreciation for magic tricks that those on the surface do. Most of them didn't see the point of it and there were only a few that stopped to watch. I was nearly ready to wrap it up when these two drow waltzed over and started to mock me, which I didn't really give a crap about but they were under the impression that they were superior to everyone else so I invited one of them up, told him that I could double his coin."
They smile briefly though it doesn't reach their eyes,"I made his single gold piece into two and, while he was distracted, stole his belt and the rest of his gold. I ran as he tried to stop his trousers from falling down and I swear I'd got away but somehow they found me, might've been that priestess but they caught me and I ended up in that cell."
El stops, realising that they got carried away with their story. "Anyway, in answer to your question I'm not really from anywhere."
OoC: El is speaking loud enough that most people outside the cave can hear provided they're not making too much sound or talking themselves, though if you're in another cave it'd probably be muffled or inaudible.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
JimJar takes the gold from Gnarls with a big smile on his face and then stops "You found mushrooms before I had the chance to grab them" He hands 2 of the gold pieces back to Gnarls "I can take a watch later on, third or fourth will do me fine" he then goes back and begins staring at Verim's dice once more.
Stool sits still for all of El's story and simply replies "Wow, the only place I've ever really been before now is the Grove"
Sarith responds to Tobias "If Shishakli and Cyndral are taking first watch then I will happily take the second watch with you. Maybe you can tell me more of this Torm that you worship. I don't seem to be having too much luck with Lolth these days" Eldeth hears this and replies "I'll stay in the cave with Gnarls and Verim then if you think you can keep us safe" Saying nothing and keeping his eyes on the dwarf, Ront follows her to the medium sized cave where the wounded Dendril and Buppido both sit, exhausted and asleep, preparing themselves for the next day of travel.
Eldeth begins preparing herself for some sleep. She takes out her family blade and stares at it for a moment, like some sort of ritual or prayer. Ront, stood near her shouts out "Gauntlgrym? You're from Gauntlgrym? Ront knew to not trust a filthy dwarf!" With that Ront draws his hidden shortsword quickly and swings right at Eldeth.

Grinning, Gnarls show his excitement at confronting conflict. "I'll let you know what I see. If I start screaming like a banshee, assume it's bad"
Favouring his shield and rapier, Gnarls leaves his pack where the group is and tries to quietly stalk across the bridge to the light. 11
