"You attacked Eldeth. I did not allow it. I *will* not allow it. You live due to the kindness of our friends. Eldeth knows nothing of your claims. She does not have a blood debt to you. Do not betray us again. I know something of Orc ways, Ront. I have demonstrated to you that I am the stronger, the superior. If you cannot accept this, say so now" (Intimidate if necessary: 20)
Attempting to convey an explanation to the group as a whole:
"My people, the people of the Uthgardt live free, and have very few rules. One of the most sacred is to not attack your own tribe without extreme reason. We survive through solidarity and loyalty. My tribe is gone, killed by drow. This is now my tribe. I will follow where you lead, and defend you all with every breath I have, even if the threat to the group comes from within the group.
Gnarls nods at Cyndral with a smile. "You would have made a great Uthgardt"
Having been put in his place by the two members of the group, Ront sits up but keeps his head bowed.
Sarith comes through to the cave “Cyndral is right, we have to work together if we want to get to where we need to go. It’s a long journey ahead of us and we’ll never make it if there is a dagger in our own backs. Gnarls, I’m sorry for what my people did to yours and I think it is admirable that all of you will still keep me as a companion. Ront, you need to learn that just because someone is of the same house or even race as your enemies, it doesn’t mean that they share their thoughts or values. Now... speaking of a long journey ahead, we should all eat, get our strength up and discuss how we’re going to move as a group”
Going off all of your equipment lists and Gnarls’ foraging you currently have 47 rations with you. 16 of them rations have gone bad due to sitting in your bags during being captured. After all 15 of the party eat for the day, you are left with 16 rations.
After his watch, Tobias goes through another ritual. This time he holds his mace out before across both hands, his amulet of Torm hanging from the handle. After what seems to be more than a few minutes, the weapon begins to glow faintly with a radiant energy.
As he stands and attaches the mace to his belt the glowing fades. He places his amulet back around his neck and looks to the group. He walks over to the know alert Ront. "You seem to have a knack for causing trouble. This is the second incident we've had with you - going back to what you tried in the cell. I'm of a mind to send you on your way, but I imagine you would just end up following us. So, I'm going to give you one last chance to straighten yourself up, or we will tie you up and leave you for the drow to find."
Blessing of the Forge
At 1st level, you gain the ability to imbue magic into a weapon or armor. At the end of a long rest, you can touch one nonmagical object that is a suit of armor or a simple or martial weapon. Until the end of your next long rest or until you die, the object becomes a magic item, granting a +1 bonus to AC if it’s armor or a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls if it’s a weapon.
Verim remains asleep for longer than most, he had night terrors again. The familiar face of Sheerava, covered in blood, her throat slit, bandages not ceasing the bleeding. A formation of hooded figures in light blue robes also lie around her at the entrance of the temple of Mystra, Verim is sleep talking and crying out in pain, those in the same cave see Verims eyes glow brighter and brighter, the colour turning red as blood begins to trickle down his face. The snake coils around and moves towards his hand, in an instant reaction Verim cries out and pulls his sword from his side, he lunges out.
”STAND BACK I BEG OF YOU”
Verim fights back as he appears in great pain, Verims veins pulsate with energy, slowly going back to its standard white colour. He pants heavily as in a cold sweat. The snake wraps and his finger and bites down, hard. Verim winces as the snake coils down and wraps around his wrist and begins to consume the swords hilt, it’s mouth stretching as it wraps up and is now imbued to the sword, the swords shape curves and begins to corrode as poison drips off it, the metal is eaten away as the snake remains still, now as it’s become Verims hilt. He takes a deep sigh and a worried look as he rotates the blade in his hand, the poison receding and his hand fused to the snake and now the blade.
El, having made their stance clear before, let's Cyndral and Gnarls speak to Ront without interfering. Knowing that doing so would only undermine them and raise tensions higher. Instead El simply waits for them to be finished and unties the orc, helping him stand up and providing support until he feels comfortable to stand on his own. "The blade fells the Weak and the Mighty alike. You may be strong but even the strongest warriors need rest and time to heal." El speaks quietly to Ront, making sure that the orc doesn't perceive their words as a threat or an order but as wisdom that he can chose to follow or ignore at his own whim.
Persuasion: 9 (they are still trying to convince him to take it easy)
El rolls up their bed and re-arms themself. They hear Verim causing a commotion and leave to see what is going on. Confused by the scene El tries to think of a way to help but instead offers a bad joke. "Sleep well?"
Performance: 21 (or -2 for a straight up charisma check to try and lighten up the room before they set off)
(Persuasion roll 2 if I have advantage: 12)
OoC: El has 5 days rations, how many should I subtract? Also @benhez can you explain what happened/the result of what happened as I don't know whether it's a serious thing causing damage or just a visual effect or what.
(Ooc for Verim levelling up and getting new abilities along with Hexblade features and some backstory details, no need for concern visual effect)
Verim sits up panting slowly. He grips his short sword (Verim now has Hex Warrior (Special) on his sword). He looks around.
“I’m sorry El, did I wake you?
Verims eyes have now cleared of blood, a series of globoules of glowing tears sit on his cheeks and drip to the floor. He stands up slowly, he walks towards the exit of the cave.
“I’m sorry everyone, I’m not sure what’s come over me, this thing has never moved that far before.”
He points at the snake
”This has been with me since I was given my sight, the world has been brighter since, however not as much recently, I believe Mystra is aiding me through this. She has been absent in my dreams recently, the ones I’ve just had are unlike anything I’ve ever had before. How is everyone else doing? I presume nothing stirred in the night? I’d like to have a look at these vials before we leave just in case. Anyone having unknown liquids please allow me to inspect them, I need something to make my mind wander for a short time, if you don’t mind?
Ooc do I have to roll for my vial check again? Thanks
Ront grunts at El’s words, still groaning as he stands. The big confident Orc appears to have grown a more ashamed and embarrassed side but is too proud to accept it.
(Stockpiling the rations for the group will be the best way to keep track of food for now. I’ll let you all know how much everyone has if the group splits up for any reason. Having disregarded all OOC rolls for traveling etc. I’ll require a new roll for the vials, it’s a bit odd if we only keep the good rolls and get rid of the bad ones)
El laughs, "Nah, I don't sleep much." They run back to the cave to fetch the small vial of black liquid they took from the Elite guard and hand it to Verim. "How are you doing? You had it pretty rough during our escape."
Getting up from the cold ground, Shishakli stretches, checks his gear, and says "Is everyone's business completed back there?" gesturing to where the fight happened the previous evening, but not really caring much about the orc or dwarf's issues. "We should not waste time. And I see we are short on food. I will keep a close eye for edible things today while we travel."((survival24))
Verim graciously takes the vial from El and begins to inspect them
Medicine Check 16
”Thank you El, me neither, not as much as I used to anyway. Um...... well....... I’m doing ok, to be honest I’m just disheartened and feeling lost, it’s been such a long time since I have heard from Mystra and I feel like it’s affecting my body in ways I never new possible, I appreciate everything you have done mind you. It’s nice to share company with pleasant folk again, I haven’t felt comfortable with a group of people since back in my early years. We best get these packed up, and start moving to avoid those guards and Ilvara, I can’t have her feasting on my magic.”
Verim takes a short amount of time with both the small vial of black liquid and the flask of strong, syrupy blue liquor. He figures out that the liquor will leave anyone who drinks it pleasantly poisoned for 1d4 hours. The small vial of black liquid contains something that Verim has come recently come quite familiar with. [Tooltip Not Found] 2 uses ofDrow Poison (Injury): A creature subjected to this poison must succeed on a DC 13 Constitutionsaving throw or be Poisoned for 1 hour. If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the creature is also Unconscious while Poisoned in this way. The creature wakes up if it takes damage or if another creature takes an action to shake it awake.
It’s nice to share company with pleasant folk again, I haven’t felt comfortable with a group of people since back in my early years.
Shishakli joins in, replying "This is already almost the longest I've been with any one group. Though to be fair, the first week or so was a bit of a haze. You all seem quite capable, and while I know these caves better than most, should we run into any difficulties it seems even taller folk can be relied on."with a slight chuckle to himself
Topsy, who has been very quiet since your escape walks forwards “If Shishakli is foraging at the front, then maybe I can forage from the back, just to pick up anything he might have missed”
Eldeth walks in looking fairly timid, a small patch of drool has dribbled onto her shirt and some sleep crusts her eyes “If you don’t mind, I think I’ll stay towards the back of the group with Sarith and JimJar, keeping an eye out for anyone following us or any dangers from behind”
Drendil, who looks remarkably better after his sleep but his fur is all matted and covered in dry blood speaks telepathically with you all again, making sure that Ront isn’t part of this conversation “If you’re worried about Ront again then I’m more than happy to keep an eye on the angry oaf, I’m sure that in time he’ll realise what he’s done wrong. Maybe one day we could get Eldeth here to have a good old chin wag with him and clear up this misunderstanding”
The group begins packing up their belongings and getting ready for another day of travel, slightly slower than the day before but with still a bit of haste. Gnarls goes towards the front, he doesn’t particularly know the Underdark that well but he’s navigated through the occasional cave in his past.
The 15ft passage narrows down to being just 5ft wide as you all get a little bit closer together. The walls down here are damp but the water seems more fresh, the stagnant smell has cleared, the small puddles on the ground still look muddy.
Shishakli stays slightly further back, picking up a variety of small plants and fungal matter that doesn’t look appetising to any of you, but Shishakli is sure you can eat it as he cuts off all of the dangerous spores and puts it away in the top of his backpack in a separate compartment from the rest of his gear.
(What activity are the rest of you doing? Lookout can either go right before or after Gnarls, anyone else will have to state where they are in the marching order)
Verim strings his pack over his shoulder, the snake lingering on his hand but now detached, the sword still melted and twisted it’s hilt eaten away. He turns to El , Telepathically stating whilst at the same time handing El back his Vial.
”What should we do with Ront? Do we keep him in bondage, if we do he’s another prisoner, just to a different set of masters, I’m happy as long as he stays at the back as far away from Eldeth, I’d prefer if she was close to the front, I’ll keep and eye on Ront and I’ll map our route if that seems agreeable? I’ll light up my shield and turn it red if danger approaches and attacks us from behind.”
Not Telepathically
“I’ve been able to have some some with these vials and I believe I now know the appropriate properties of each, no wonder those drow were such a threat towards be”
Verim pulls out some parchment, his ink pen and some ink to roughly display the route taken by the party.
Tobias gives Drendil a nod. "Thank you," he replies telepathically.
The cleric then takes a position to the front of the column next to Gnarls. He turns to the halfling, "Do you think you can find a path through this? Mind is if me and Torm give you a hand?" He reaches out to touch the halfling on the shoulder to provide some guidance.
