Mathiall nods. "The first place I am sending you to is Nightstone. Nightstone is a fortified settlement located a few miles south of the Ardeep Forest, in the untamed hills between Waterdeep and Daggerford. A lonely wooden signpost, standing where the trail to Nightstone meets the High Road, points the way to the settlement. Nightstone’s closest neighbors are the elves of the Ardeep Forest. Hunters from Nightstone have incurred the elves’ wrath on multiple occasions. There have been rumors of goblins terrorizing towns in the area. The High Steward of Nightstone, Lady Velrosa Nandar, is a Waterdhavian noble. She is reportedly offering a reward to anyone willing and able to deal with the goblin threat. Nightstone is a popular retreat for wealthy nobles who wish to hunt in the Ardeep Forest. Adventurers can earn good money by offering their services as guards on a hunt. The residents of Nightstone have a longstanding and seemingly irreconcilable conflict with their northern neighbors, the elves of the Ardeep Forest. Lady Velrosa Nandar has been searching for skilled mediators to help resolve the dispute. The Nightstone Inn is renowned for its food and cozy guest rooms. The dwarf innkeeper, Morak Ur’gray, has a fondness for adventurers and a nose for lucrative adventuring opportunities. I will be placing you just outside Nightstone, about 5 or so miles from the town."
Mathiall stands and moves to a door that is on the wall behind him. He begins touching several crystals on the wall that have been shaped into runes. They begin to flair to life emitting a soft gently glow. He stops and looks at the group. "Oh. one last thing. While you are good at what you do, you skills can use some improvement. Recently the enemies of adventures have began to drop small crystals when defeated. The crystals have an energy about them that, when properly transmuted, can produce a token. Depending on the process used, this token can do numerous things like make you healthier, stronger, smarter, more beautiful. These tokens can also be used to teach you new abilities. If you are not after a token that does that, you maybe able to trade the token for weapons and armor or other supplies. Keep in mind that you can only get so smart, so strong before you hit a limit. To break past that limit will take the assistance of the Gods." He looks at each of you in turn before turning back to the door and touching a couple more crystals. The crystals flare to a deep green color and the door seems to melt away leaving a Frame that looks out onto a road that winds through the trees. "Follow this road in the direction leading from the portal to Nightstone. And hurry, it appears that some information I was provided is not 100% accurate. It seems the town is currently in trouble."
Eldar stands and you are finally able to see what he is. A Kitsune stands before you in the "hybrid form" covered in a deep Black fur with white markings, he carries a sword at one hip and a tome on the other. Deep emerald green eyes look out from the face upon everything. The sense of power and age radiates out from him. Trailing along behind him are 9 tails with a white tip. Standing at close to 8 foot tall he moves with the grace of a predator around the table and stands before Mathiall. "Dawnguard, we will try to get to the bottom of this." His voice is a low deep baritone that rumble from deep within his chest. Turning he steps through the door way into the evening light of the path and begins to move up the trail.
[OOC: To move the story along, since someone keeps forgetting to post, we are going to say everyone has went through the portal now and have moved up the path towards the town.]
After following the trail for five miles, you hear the ringing of a bell. The sound grows louder as Nightstone comes into view. A river flows around the settlement, forming a moat. The village itself is contained within a wooden palisade, beyond which you see a windmill, a tall steeple, and the high-pitched rooftops of several other buildings. Apart from the ringing of the bell, you detect no other activity in the village. The trail ends before a lowered drawbridge that spans the moat. Beyond the drawbridge, two stone watchtowers flank an open gap in the palisade.
South of the village and surrounded by the river moat is a cone-shaped, flat-topped hill on which stands a stone keep enclosed by a wooden wall. The keep, which overlooks the village, has partially collapsed. A wooden bridge that once connected the keep to the village has also partially collapsed.
[OOC: If you take the Dash action, it will still take you 5 minutes to get to the town gates.]
Eldar growls low in his chest and sprints forward towards the town at a dead run. He leans forward as he runs and draws one of the two long curved katanas from his right side. The blade is about a meter long and deep black with a red tint going up the edge of the blade. in his other hand a dark mass of flames appears.
You reach the town after about 5 minutes of running and slow down before reaching the bridge. Just across the bridge you can see that the town looks like it ha been through a war. Parts of buildings appear to have been destroyed by large stones. In what appears to be the town square you can see a large torn up section of earth. What are the characters going to do?
[To prevent me doing any Meta Gaming, you will need to decide what you are going to do, Eldar will only assist when it comes to fights.]
Usually its not common to use direct tactics in these situations, and from past experiences I have learned the direct approach doesn't usually end well however time is of the essence and we have ground to cover. So with scythe at the ready, I cautiously walk towards the open hole in middle of town.
As you move cautiously across the bridge you look at the town. Seven stone watchtowers stand along the village perimeter. Each tower is 20 feet tall, with a roof enclosed by crenellated battlements. Two watchtowers flank the entrance to the village, forming a gatehouse of sorts. Each tower contains a winch, and both mechanisms must be turned to extend or retract the chains that raise and lower the drawbridge.
Just past the gate and watch towers you can see several large stones embedded into the ground, On the left as you enter the town you see what looks to be a temple. From the steeple on the temple is where the bell is ringing. The door to the front of the temple is open. Straight across from the gate, about 90 feet in, you see what looks to be 4 large worg feasting on the remains of a couple dogs they had killed. To the right of the gate is a fenced in area of a farm.
Eldars ears twitch at the ringing of the bell but his eyes fasten upon the worgs in the town square. A low deep growl emanates from him and pure hate fills his eyes.
紫色の影 Mura: Notices Eldars twitching ears and follows the gaze of his eyes towards the center of town, where shadows lurk. Advancing at a steady pace to follow along with Eldar towards the targets in the middle of town. Nodding to Eldar to let him know you are planning to split off when closer to targets and stealthily observe and wait until the right moment to strike.
Vandell: Noticing that Eldar is focused on the center of town; "Eldar. I will check out the source of the ringing while you and Mura recon and evaluate the shadowy figures in the path in front of us." "Good luck you two and be careful" Vandell walks cautiously sweeping for any traps in the door way as he enters.
Hearing the sounds of talking in a language other than goblin or worg, the worgs turn and spot the 4 near the gate. They growl low and charge forward towards the group.
[OOC: Roll Stealth with disadvantage. Eldar and Daiyu was behind Mura and Vandell so will not need to have disadvantage. If the comment to Daiyu was meant to be out of Character, you need to indicate that in the future.]
Daiyu turns her head toward Vandell, through teeth held tightly together, "Thank you Vandell. Seems you are doing a fine job of back up. You have alerted them to our presence."
Daiyu, sprints to the left and through Watchtower door and to the top.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eldar and Daiyu vanish like a dream in different Directions. Eldar moves along the fence, just inside, keeping low as he moves to flank the worgs as they charge Vandell and Mura.
[OCC: Order of Init is as follows. It will take the worgs one full turn to reach Mura and Vandell unless they make their stealth checks.]
Ah Well I guess into the meat grinder they go. I guess ill draw em out and then you two flank em. begins walking toward the worgs while spinning scythe around his body in a slicing pattern, creating a defensive offense.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eldar waits until the worgs go by and leaps over the fence. He sheathes his sword real quick and holds his hands out in front of him slightly. Power begins to gather first forming a small ball then growing larger. He rotates his hands as if shaping a ball and turns slightly bringing his hands down to his waste as the ball gets to the size of a basketball. He roars as he thrust his hands forward towards worg 4 and shouts "Industria Crepitus!" and a beam of energy flys from his hands.
Damage: 18
[OOC: Similar to magic missile. Does not require an attack roll. Also is a bonus action.]
As the worg is hit by the spell, he quickly gathers the energy again and sends 3 balls of Eldritch Fire towards Worg 2.
Attack: 20
Damage: 13
[OCC: Rolled d20's instead of d4's for the attach with the first spell. Had to change that, hence the warning that the roll was changed.]
