Potion Healing: 9
Wes pours the potion of healing down Aradurk's throat, and the half-orc awakes in time to see Karst duck beneath a needle sent by Rycider across the room. Tanakir provides the slaad no time to recover, winding his club high and slamming it into the base of the slaad's skull. A sickening crack reverberates through the room. Small bits of flame flicker and roil on the back of the slaad's head as it crashes in a heap to the stone floor before they roll away and dissipating into the air.
The portal has been deactivated, separating you from the other death slaadi. It is once more silent within the portal room.
OOC: Potion of healing has been removed from Wes's inventory. 1x blowgun needle has been removed from Rycider's inventory.
Each character (including Karst) has received 2,360 XP for defeating the death slaadi, and 2,000 XP for preventing a portal explosion. In addition, each character has received 1,000 XP for the traitor in their midst playing a part in the final battle, and 500 XP for roleplaying your "between adventures" secrets well.
Wes pats Aradurk on the shoulder, displaying a slight smile to hide the small tear beginning to form in the corner of his eye. “You gotta become more resilient like me.” Letting out a small chuckle as helps hims up (or as much the Wes could actually try to help)
Wes runs to the body of the Slaad to search the body for any sign of information or gem.
Aradurk groans as he stands up. "Every part of me feels like it has been shredded like a boar on the dinner table."
"Not to put everyone on the defensive here but so far, we have been played twice. Anyone else in our midst a slaad and not telling?", Aradurk asks the group, looking everyone up and down. Insight: 12

Tanakir smiles as Aradurk gets back up, but looks grimly at Karst-Slaad’s body before speaking, “Good to see you’re alive, but I’d think any other traitors would have revealed themselves back then. What... what was that portal? Where did they go? And why?”
Wes dusting himself off after searching the corpse “Well that was one of Roccar’s and my secrets. We built a teleportation portal that was able to cut through the strict anti-magic field around the city. I don’t know what Roccar wanted for it or even if it was him that wanted it. When this portal became theirs and not ours, I don’t know. I just know it’s volatile and if used improperly... well it’s very unstable. So I hid it with magic so nobody would pay attention to it. Hide it in plain sight you see? I don’t know where it goes though.” Wes begins to ponder a bit while absentmindedly wiping the gore of the Slaad off on his robes “That gen we saw the Slaad take before it changed form, was that the same gem that Denorian was holding. Also we know who we need to look for... this Doramor.” Wes scratches his head. “She loves you, where have we heard that before?”
The fallen body of Karst's slaad form contains no clues nor any sign of the gem that had been discovered in the pockets of Ser Mary Glendale.
With no other slaad transformations, the excitement of the day comes to a close. Two days later, you stand weary and bandaged in front of a beleaguered but mostly recovered Ser Glendale in her audience chamber in the Master's Hall. The grand structure is in disrepair from the attack of the shield guardians, but most of the rubble has been cleared and most of the staff accounted for. After sending her guards away, she speaks.
"Now that the situation is under control, I should explain the reason that Roccar asked you all to come to Sundabar in the first place, though you've likely already deduced it. The city has fallen to the slaadi. Roccar had hoped to explain this to you himself, but it seems he has been delayed, or worse. They are spread throughout the city, and as you have witnessed firsthand, it is impossible to know what they are once they have shapeshifted. Fumbles was making good progress on magic that could reveal them, but they discovered his workshop and burned it down. I've not seen him since, and I fear the worst."
Her hand at her temples, she says, "The situation is dire. Something is coming, something that Denorian thinks he can stop, but he has snapped. He's become obsessed with his research, and worse, our former companion Doramor has done his utmost to thwart us. Before we can focus on what is coming, we need to find Roccar if he is still alive, find Karst if he ever was not a slaad, and stop Doramor."
"Wes, I will need you to activate activate the portal again. The four of you should travel through it to Luskan, and track Roccar down. I will salvage what I can from Sundabar and meet you there. And for your efforts two days ago..." she pauses, motioning to a chest full of coinage in the corner, "A more fitting reward would be recognition for saving thousands upon thousands of lives, my own among them, but it is best that you remain unknown amongst the slaadi. There are 2,000 gold pieces for you, and some for Karst, should you find him...the real him."

Wes listens calmly while petting Petunia back in her weasel form, curled up around on of his arms. That is before Petunia jumps down and scurries over to Rycider to rest around her neck. It’s not long however until Wes snaps his fingers and poofs the amber and gold weasel back to him, continuing to stroke the fur. “Do we have any knowledge that they are still alive? I agree to take the fight to them, but signing up for a suicide mission based on speculation instead of facts seems rather asinine.” Wes begins to pace a bit as Petunia now curls up around his neck nuzzling away and lightly pecking at him. “I miss them too and want them back, I’m just being practical. I’m going to need some form of protection before I go too.”
Aradurk looks around the situation. “With all that I have been through with Roccar AND Karst, I have but one path: to find them and help make this situation tenable.” He looks at his companions direly, “Ry - your wiles and unique skills have been this far an immense asset. Wes - I would like likely draw a breath if not for your magic. Tanakir - you are such a respectable melee combatant - I hope to keep fighting alongside you. I hope you will all stay part of this strike team. I warn you this - what you see going through the portal may not endear you to the cause so steel yourselves.”

Tanakir grimaces when he hears about Denorian, “I know a little about being obsessed with justice. If there is anything that can be done for him, I will do it. For him, Fumbles, and Karst.”
He gives Aradurk a short salute, “I’m certainly not one to back out when the stakes get dire, I’ll be heading through that portal as well.”
It has been an unventful, yet stressful, tenday. The party has recovered from the strenuous rescue of Ser Mary Glendale, and has spent their time sheltered in The Master's Hall, the only place Glendale trusts to be free of the slaadi influence. Even though none have been seen since the fight in the portal room, it is still difficult to trust anyone within the complex. Rotating pass phrases are implemented, and asking personal questions of friends to ensure they are not a slaad has become the norm.
Nevertheless, Wes has managed to repair the damage done to the portal by the slaad's attempt to force it open, and a few days later, you step through it together, arriving in Luskan. Ser Glendale deactivates the portal behind you, and will join up with you at a later date. In the meantime, you follow Glendale's directions and arrive at Roccar's safehouse, buried beneath a facade of rubble and hidden among burned-out homes. There you find Roccar and Karst, returning from a mission of their own.
Wes lies on a half broken chair with Petunia the weasel wrapped around his feet. Pinching the bridge of his nose while his eyes are closed. Grease smear across his forehead.
Jumping up to his feet wand at the ready as a red spark begins to emerge from the tip. “Who are you?!”
"Wes? It's us, take it easy. What are you doing here? How in the hells did you find this place?" Roccar exclaims. Karst, next to him, looks very much like the Karst that the party had just traveled with and been betrayed by during the rescue of Ser Mary Glendale.
Karst looks stern as the others arrive, perhaps wondering if they are who they say they are. Moving slightly in front of Roccar as if to defend him the paladin's hand hovers near the haft of his battleaxe. "Aradurk, what was the name of the kobold who used to fight at our side when we first met? Indulge me if you would." The pure white eyes hold a tension that the easy, confident tone does not.
