I'm a relatively experienced DM looking for some new players in my Tomb of Annihilation campaign. Two of my players have dropped out, and I'm trying to bring the party back up to a more reasonable number. The party is currently level 2 and has just started searching Chult for the Soulmonger.
About the Game
Posting:
Players should try to post once a day. If your character is not directly engaged in whatever is going on, you don't need to post, but that probably won't happen too often. If you can't post, I won't kill you. I understand that we all have lives, and D&D is not the most important thing in the world. If you won't be able to post for a longer period of time, just make sure to tell me beforehand.
Characters:
All official character options are available. I'm using milestone experience, feats, encumbrance, and fixed hit points, and you can choose either starting gold or starting equipment for your character. You should also pick a color for your character so I know when (example) "Your character is saying something"
Your application/submission should look something like this
Character Name
Race
Alignment
Class/Classes
Backstory, character details, and reason for being in Chult
Link to Character sheet
Ability scores can be rolled in your post or with Standard Array or Point Buy. You can rearrange your scores if you want to.
Thanks for reading this! If you have any questions, I'll answer them.
Backstory: Every night since her childhood, Delilah has had the same dream: She sees a glowing orb - each time, a darker shade of grey - and hears a haunting voice: "When it turns black, you will die."
Thanks to her impoverished upbringing in a dangerous region, Delilah has always believed the prophecy of her dream must be true. Not wanting her family to be caught up in whatever doom might await her, she ran away as soon as she was old enough to fend for herself. Since then, she has studied the arcane arts- not to prevent the prophecy, but just to learn its source and why she in particular was "chosen" by it.
Things went steadily until one day, she had a different dream. In it, she saw a map of Chult, and the voice said: "Go and meet your destiny."
The Aelorothi was one of the corrupted elven noble houses that turned to elf-demon cross breeding. Hunferho only has weak ties to the house (being a half-elf), but the shame is enough to give him two goals in life: to destroy demons, and to disrupt the (in his eyes) corrupt elven nobility. The family name is no longer enough to gain him entrance to courts and rulers, so he will have to acquire wealth and power. He has heard that Chult is a place to acquire those.
(He is not evil, but I'm using LotR's Grima Wormtongue and Shakespeare's Richard III as inspirations. People are not comfortable with his appearance, and he can be unpleasant, but his words have a strange influence. Another inspiration is Unfero, from Beowulf. He was a retainer of Hrothgar, and acted as a provocateur to determine if visitors were telling the truth or trying to deceive the king. I'm not naturally eloquent, but pbp will make it easier to roll-play.)

Character: Crag Strakeln
Race: Dwarf
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Class: Barbarian
Backstory: Crag had been traveling with his family at a young age. They were wealthy merchants, but Crag was bored, and didn’t see the point in money. So he wandered off into the land of Chult at the tender age of 15 where he was found and captured by a tribe of orcs. The orcs found a slave useful, so they kept him for 5 years, traveling the wilderness and eventually earning their respect and his freedom. Even though Crag was free, he didn’t leave for a while, finding the wild lands a far better home than his parent’s fancy house ever had been. But his wanderlust made him restless, so he struck out on his own to find something more interesting and fun to do, like a fight.
•Ever since I was little, I've been a fan of the goddess Cyrrollalee. I was fascinated of the stories of her amazing acts of kindness. I began to pray to her every day, until one day, I felt she was beside my, gifting me with divine magic. Within months I'd left home, hoping to gift the world with my acts of kindness.
•Sailing out of his village, Garth realised he didn't know how to steer a boat. He tried to sail back to his village, but it was hopeless. After days without food or water he saw an island in the distance. Garth jumped out of the boat and paddled with all his might to get to the shore.
Backstory, character details, and reason for being in Chult: Triqys lost her parents at a very young age, and was brought up by her aunt and uncle. She always had lots of cousins to play with and they often went on romps through the woods together, playing pranks and just generally messing with their family and the families that lived around them. As she grew older, her love of pranks never really stopped, though she got better and better at hiding that it was her. Her uncle got her to help in his shop, selling small wooden statues and teaching her how to carve wood, for no other reason than to probably keep her still for longer than a few seconds at a time. As she came of age and decided to seek out adventure wherever it called her, she bid a 'see you later' to her family and set out, promising to write as frequently as she could. Triqys found herself in Chult after a prank went wrong and she had to run as fast as she could to get away from the mod who had decided that for whatever reason it was considered rude and evil to do. She eventually found herself in Chult, and decided here was better than anywhere else to get back to mischief making. After a brief letter to her family explaining what had happened, she started off towards the nearest town or city for a drink, and whatever rumors of adventure could be found.
Do you have shared content? I’m thinking of doing a Tempest Domain Cleric Goliath, but with the basic rules unlocked, I can only select Life Domain.
(Scores: Ability scores: 121015141615)
If not, I can just be a Life Domain Cleric.
Character Name: Nas'dorgleyfyül (but most call him Nas/Naz)
Race: Goliath
Alignment: Lawful Good
Class/Classes: Cleric (Life Domain or Tempest)
Backstory: Naz is the only living son of his clan's Blacksmith. He never wanted to take on his father's trade, but learnt the craftsmanship anyways. He would always leave with the clan raiders when he could, hoping to become a mighty fighter. To the eyes of the rest of the clan, he was the best warrior of them all; but his father disapproved greatly. One day, while hunting with his fellow raiders, he got separated from the group.. and got lost in the endless snowy mountains where he grew up... except he didn't recognize the area he was in now. After weeks of searching for his path, he came to the realization that he was too far away now from his homeland, and was most definitely lost. He was almost ready to let himself die, but decided to pray to the gods one more time. He offered everything he had left, and promised to follow a path of greatness if they let him survive. (This part of the story depends on whether I play Tempest or Life, but I get some kind of sign that helps me survive). He was now ready to stop the search for his clan, and start the search for his destiny.. and he descends from the mountains where he has always lived.
Character details: Personality Traits: When I set my mind to something, I follow through no matter what gets in my way. I get bored easily. When am I going to get on with my destiny? Ideals: Destiny. Nothing and no one can steer me away from my higher calling. Bonds: I protect those who cannot protect themselves. Flaws: I have a weakness for the vices of the city, especially hard drink.
Reason for being in Chult: After arriving in the closest town to my homelands, I met a sea captain who was seeking a Cleric to accompany him on his journey across the ocean to the mysterious Island of Chult, he was a very superstitious captain (and quite poor too), and he believed he would have better luck with a Cleric on board his ship. He didn't really have the money to hire one though, so couldn't believe his luck when he met Naz, who was willing to board his ship for nothing more than food for his journey!
Sarven was kicked out of his group of elves after he still could not control his anger, he would often get into fights of the littlest things but when not attempting to kill someone he was very polite, it just takes very little to set him off. He is in chult because a friend he made on his journey and a sort of mentor of his Arven was taken from him due to the disease and he just wishes to do whatever he can to stop this from happening to anyone else.
The early years of Vey's life was a blur of names, deaths, and money. A gutter rat turn expert assassin allowing the black fur and green eyed tabaxi to slip in and out of the shadows taking the lives from the poor souls whose names managed to make it in his leger book. By age 15 he had already been give the alias "Shadow of the Coast" by the lawful guards of the Swords Coast with a standing order to kill or capture on site. Then just three year later the "Shadow of the Coast" all but disappeared, many saying that he was killed or capture, but the real truth was that he finally found a mark he could not kill. Hired to kill a famously albino tabaxi women he found a much more capable opponent then he was prepared for. Lying on the floor beaten bloody with her knife to his throat his shock was all but visible on his face when she spared his life. Maya was the first person ever to show him mercy, kindness, and eventually love, so he turned away from his old life to simple burglary and theft to help support her and their daughter. Their life together was a hard one but full of happiness until his past caught up to them. An assassin was hired by an young nobleman whose father was killed by the "Shadow of the Coast" and in the fight his beloved Maya and young daughter Layla was killed before his eyes, his retribution was swift, but hollow. The only thing that mattered in his life was taken from him, but was is taken from him forever he wondered? Hearing of a land far off that deals in the return of those dead and soul he set off to Chulth in the hopes of being reunited with is family once more.
Vey-"Salutations and blessings upon you worthy friends! This one is pleased to meet you! This one is called Veytoranimus Etranomicon but his friends may call him Vey."

I don't have any shared content, but if you have the PHB and really want to play a Tempest Cleric you could probably homebrew the class.
That's alright, if you need a healer, I can do Life Domain, or I might invest in the PHB on DDBeyond at some point anyways!
Just let me know if I get picked to join this adventure and I'll decide what to do ;) the character is pretty much the same to start off with anyways!
