The wolf yelps and drops to the ground as the arrow pierces its chest. Suddenly the bodies of the 3 worgs turn into goo as they break apart. Mathiall claps from just inside the portal, "Well done. Well done indeed." He turns to the rest of the group. "Anyone else want to go or shall we get on with the quest?"
[OOC: Deadly encounter, per DnD Beyond Encounter Creation for 1 level 3.]
Mathiall steps back through the portal into the meeting room and waits for the others to join him. Once they all do, he touches various crystals on the stand and the Portal shifts back to Greenest as seen from a distance. He turns to the group. "There is the portal to the town. Good luck and much wealthy on your journey."
The little cleric lowers his offered handshake, it isn't the first time tall folk have overlooked tokens of friendship coming from waist height. At least this time there was wondrous magic and vigorous combat that stole attention away.
He braces himself before the portal and jumps through.
The feline scout nods at Mathiall, giving his thanks as he walks through the portal. He is impatient with the others. He looks down towards the midget cleric and says "You're awfully friendly, ain't ya?"
Everyone moves through the portal and towards the town. It is late evening as you approach closer to the town, in the distance you can see columns of black smoke rising from burning buildings, running figures that are little more than dots at this distance, and a dark, winged shape wheeling low over the keep that rises above the center of the town. As the group moves closer to the town, they run into a group of stragglers from the group attacking the town. There appears to be about 8 in the group. Judging from the clothes they are wearing they are with one of the Dragon Cults. They currently have their backs to the group and are not aware of you.
Erevan strides along the pathway gracefully with his hands tucked behind his back. He peers toward the burning buildings, and then darts his eyes to the silhouette looming over the town, above the keep in the center of town. Erevan stares at the object meticulously in an attempt to deduce what this may be, as well checking to see if he can determine what started these fires.
Melnar drops into Greenest and sees the destruction well under way. The smoke and screams bring him to anger. "We're already late," telling himself as he pulls his sickle and crossbow from his back while taking a step back. His eyes analyzing the figures ahead of them, looking for anything in their hands.

His search breaks upon hearing Erevan call out and readies for the fight ahead.
Melnar and Erevan both can see that the cultist have curved scimitars on their hips. The group of cultist appear to be all regular foot soldier types as the obvious signs of a spellcaster are not present. They are spread out a little marching up the road, discussing the attack and blaming each other for being delayed in not getting to loot. They are about 50 feet ahead of the group currently. Past them the road is clear, as far as you can see, until you reach the town.
Night Wine spots a clump of bushes 10 foot ahead and to the left of the road and darts off to it staying low to the ground. He hides behind the bushes and can peer through the bushes with unimpeded view of the cultist. The cultist continue to move up the road unaware they are being stalked by the cat.
Night Wine informs Smitty in a quite voice "They are completely unaware that we are here. Now would be a great time to strike. Go back and tell everyone to prepare for a surprise attack, and after I launch my first arrow tell them to attack too."
