Cassie grips her dorm room key tightly in her hand and walks about looking for her room. Locating it, she opens the door and takes one look inside and sighs in apparent disappointment and cries out loud, "no, no, this will not do at all," cursing and fuming, her tail twitching wildly as it whips back and forth, her agitation growing with the realization that this is going to be much more difficult than she first thought!
Standing outside her room in the hallway she slams the door shut and grabs her tail to stop it's wild almost uncontrollable movements. Cassie annoyed and frustrated by the damn thing, not used to it, not sure exactly how to get it under control with it seemingly tied to her emotional state! "Just stop it!"She screams at it in anger and frustration, unused to her extra appendages. At least the wings were less bothersome but so unsightly even all folded up.
Cassie, As you stand in front of your door clutching onto your tail in an attempt to control it. A fellow student that looks like humanoid lizard approaches and advises you:
"Yea, tails can be a nuisance if you're not used to them. Some advice, they are look mood rings, when your happy it'll jump around like a child. When your angry, you can expect it to whip back and forth in a way that can cause some damage to an unsuspecting passerby. If you can learn to use your emotions like a tool, your tail will be a great asset. Think of it as an arm. When you get frustrated you sometimes find yourself instinctively throwing your arms up dont you?" He says while his tail mirrors his statement.
"Why dont you give it a try, think of how you would hung yourself with your arms, but... dont move your arms."
If you want to give it a try roll a Wisdom Check!
Cassie gives the lizard a silent shrug still feeling somewhat agitated gives his suggestion a go and crosses her arms, locking them together on her chest in front of herself.
Wisdom Check 4
You start to envision hugging yourself when all of a sudden your frustration come rushing back into your mind!
Your tail suddenly whips to the side, whipping a students text book out of his hands, sending the book flying straight into his face!
"Haha, keep practicing and you'll eventually get the hand of it."
On you first day of class, in History of Magic, Prof. Lauren Bilsney is lecturing about the importance of preparedness. She seems to be around 35 years old, has a hairstyle that resembles something out of a 50’s housewife. She dresses in bright colors with whimsical patterns. She is usually very cheerful and has an air of Hot Librarian about her.
Professor Lauren Bilsney:
"Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I will be your professor for History of Magic. Here we will learn how the very foundation of magic came to be. You will be required to spend quite a bit of time in the library, and since this is a first year class, I would like to remind you that you have free and full access to about 50% of the schools library, there you will be able to find everything you need in terms of resources for this class and in fact for most of your classes. The rest of the library is either for faculty use only and it is strictly prohibited for students to visit this area, or for upper classmen.
As you will learn in this class, the world of magic is full of more dangers than anything else. This world can be marvelous and amazing, but as with all things…. It comes with a cost.
Now… with that out of the way let us begin. First thing on the agenda, Arcane Focuses. An Arcane Focus is a special item, an item that has seen so many amazing and brutal things in its vast lifespan, they are meant to channel the power of arcane spells.
Mages, wizards and all kinds of spell casters can use these items as spellcasting focuses. Casting spells, many times requires particular ingredients, for example in your text you will see a spell and in parenthesis the components required in order to cast said spell. This is where your Arcane Focus comes in. You may use your focus in lieu of the components as long as you are able to hold it in your hand while casting your spell. It is a good idea however, to always have a stocked pouch of components. The first thing your enemies will always try to do destroy is your Arcane Focus, an unprepared spell caster is most often a dead spell caster.
It is rare to find a spell caster who has kept their original Arcane Focus. We have a full shop within the school where you can find all the materials to cast any spell that you may want. However, some recipes will be off limits to you until you prove that you are well versed enough to use it.
"I’ve taken the liberty of acquiring several items from the school’s ancient artifacts department. Now, any one of these items can serve as a focus, but it is the item that must choose you. I will have you all, one at a time come and hold each item in your hand so that you may examine them, be careful however, if you damage any one of these carelessly, the other items may not be too happy to join you in your life’s journey. There is no guarantee that you will leave class today with a focus but at least you will see how this connection comes to be.”
The students begin to approach the front of the class one at a time, each taking their time and examining all of the items, nothing extraordinary can be seen happening as they choose their Focuses. Then one student picks up a glass orb, switches it from one hand to the other, gives it a gentle toss upwards and catches as it comes back down. Prof. Bilsney can be seen wincing as the student does this. The student then smiles ear to ear and with a strong and quick movement, he thrusts his hand upwards holding the glass orb triumphantly while proclaiming “This one is mine!” as he does this he loses his grip and the glass orb begins to fall.
Professor Bilsney casts a levitation spell on the orb just as it just kisses the floor. A crack slowly begins to spider-web across the orb until finally, it explodes with a loud bang, releasing a wave of energy that spreads throughout the classroom across the floor. A look of horror comes across the student’s face. The professor, while she composes herself and tries to get her hair back in order, she simply says:
“Well Jack, this is unfortunate but it does serve as an opportunity for the other students to observe the consequences of carelessness. Go ahead and attempt to connect with another Focus.”
Jack begins the process all over again, holding each Focus in his hands. Each time he goes to pick up an item, the items move slightly to avoid his grasp.
Jack is a short stocky individual with kind eyes, always dresses tidy almost as if he self issued a uniform for himself. This isn’t the first time you’ve seen Jack be blunderous and you get the feeling that he is very prone to accidents.
“Students, as you can see the Arcane Focuses are not happy about what just happened, Jack has lost his opportunity today and will have to find his Arcane Focus on his own since these items do not trust him with their lives. It is important to remember that magic is alive, you all have access to magic due to its source finding each and every one of you worthy for one reason or another, also genetics do sometimes come into play, but not always. Therefore these items that would otherwise seem mundane and lifeless, are in fact alive with magic coursing through every one of their atoms. If you were to lose favor with the source of magic, you may very well kiss your ties to magic goodbye. Jack after class we will have to do some extra work in order for you to find something. As for the rest of you, as you were please.”

Izzy approaches the table with a hunched over posture, something she learned helped hide her figure, and with her arms crossed begins to look at the items on the table while biting her bottom lip. It wasn't often that she had an opportunity for something nice and several of the items here appeared very nice...especially the amethyst stone mounted on a simple necklace that seemed to call to her. Looking around she nervously approaches the gem which seems to shine brighter than the rest to her and reaches out to grab it. When her hand touches it she feels...something...and it is as if the gem is connected to her...she can feel it with her mind in this strange feedback loop in which some unknown energy in her goes to it while it sends her back something. After a moment she feels the loop seem to stabilize and she smiles in a way that reaches her eyes and makes her appear very beautiful before she suddenly seems nervous and quickly clutches the necklace to her chest and scurries away to a desk lest someone decide to contest her for it...
Ceasar stood near his seat for a moment, closing his eyes to reach out with the method he was taught as child. Putting forth his own magical aura, he felt for a connection, or at least, some kind of reaction. After a few moments, he found it, but it was strange, the connection seemed to run deeper than he expected, and he felt something in his blood shimmer with excitement. Opening his eyes, he calmly moved forward, almost as if in a trance. Standing in front of the table, he reached out to grasp a small golden dragon miniature that held a crystal in it's claws, however, just as the tip of his finger touched the dragon's surface, the crystal shone and the dragon came to life, unfurling itself, it almost spun around his middle finger, making it's way up it where it then wrapped itself around his index and became a ring, with the crystal still firmly held up.
For his part, Ceasar, while surprised, was overwhelmed by the feeling of comfort and warmth he received from this little object. Regardless, he clutched his hand into a fist and smiled, moving back to his seat.
Kraft waited and waited , as he was use to getting left overs and digging through scrap and trash to find thing he wanted or needed that others did not care for or think important. So as he looks at the many items left he ponders, he sees a few sets of tools for different trades. These speak to him more than the orbs, crystals, rods, staffs, and wands about the table. As I go back and forth touching them with ease, I see a tinkers tool set, as I touch it, it has a small metal wire sticking out which I prick my palm on. These are a working mans tools here, I will take these as it looks like we are already bonded. I put them in the outer large pocket on my oversized trench coat. "ok I have mine"
Tellier walked down to the assortment of arcane foci, running a hand over each one in a line. First passing over a short ivory wand, then a crystal orb with lights sparkling inside, and a purple crystal that seemed to have the depth of an ocean, he felt nothing. There's nothing here, I knew that this was a sham!
As he opened his mouth to confront the instructor, a simple flute with a silver inlay caught his eye. As he reached out for it, it seemed to be drawing him in, playing a wondrous melody that only he could hear. He let out an involuntary whisper, "It's... just a pretty flute. There's nothing else. Magic isn't real."
He quickly scoops it up, hiding it in his jacket, before quickly moving to a seat in the back of the auditorium.
“What is utterly important for you to understand is that magic is meant to be harnessed, controlled and used. Magic much like any other utility such as electricity and water, does not care whether it is being used for good or for evil. Which is why there are schools dotted around the globe, such as Naedonia. These schools have been founded in order to pursue further knowledge while also bestowing knowledge for the sake of preventing this ancient art from disappearing, what you do with that knowledge is of your own accord. That being said, we do not condone the use of magic for evil purposes, but if you want to take over the world… give it a go and let us know what happens.”
“As some of you may or may not already know is, that what IS understood of magic is that according to ancient texts that have been discovered within ancient ruins of dead civilizations is that magic was given to us by the old gods, we don’t know what or whom the source is, as I am sure the old gods prefer to keep that secret. There was a time in history however, known as the Dark Ages, where magic was stricken from the mortal world due to us falling out of grace with the gods. Some say it is because a human found the source of magic and attempted to keep it for himself. The gods saw this selfishness and barred humanity from magic for 1,000 years. Long enough for that generation and many generation afterwards to disappear through time. So if it is not apparent already… the Old gods are real. Hades, Zeus, Apollo, the entire pantheon of forgotten deities… real. They are content with being in the shadows today, but their Will is ever changing. They have had children, demi-gods, some are friendly to mortals and some are not. A few demigods have made their mark in history such as Hercules, Achilles and Perseus etc. If you find yourself in the presence of a god or demigod, be very wary as our lives are equal to that of an insect to their perspective.”
Right before class ends, Prof. Bilnsey informs all students to go to the Armory, located just north of Lorelei Hall. The Armory is where all students can obtain base level equipment for the studies, such as weapons and armor. (This is where you receive your starting equipment, feel free to RP it if you want.)
As you arrive to the armory, it resembles what you would imagine a medieval armory would look like. The doors are large with metal studs in the shapes of "pyramids" along the exterior, the interior face of the door has round metal studs. The corridors are lined with marble statues of what seem like heroic figures. You can hear one first year student say "Is that a statue of Spartacus? Was he a student here?"
There are signs that direct you toward the inventory room. There is a model of Lorelei Hall place on a tabletop right in front of the counter located in the center of the length of the counter.
A Goliath stands behind the counter that separates the inventory from the public. He stands at about 7'3" tall with a muscular build, he has a greatsword strapped to his back and you can make out blue tattoos that cover the majority of his skin.
"What is your focus of combat?" He says in an absurdly deep voice. (according to your class, he hands you the starting equipment.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(ooc oops i totally forgot to RP this scene, I also totally forgot the idea I had so this one is just kind of off the cuff)
Asher approached the arcane focuses and at first was reaching for an orb, but as he did so a long crystal about 7 inches at least called out to him.
"Knowledge... power... bond...with...me" This was repeated in his mind until he slowly reached for the crystal and grabbed it. For a brief moment the bluish white crystal glowed red in his hands. He looked around and left the table quickly.

Cassie catching sight of the tall muscular goliath and seductively struts up to the counter her tail twitching enthusiastically behind her.
Standing before him she flashes him a flirtatious smile as she introduces herself, "I am Cassandra Ash, but feel free to call me Cassie," her voice taking on a sultry tone as her eyes roam admiringly over his muscular body. Fascinated by his rather interesting blue tattoos.
Looking at all the weapons about, her gaze falls on a coiled whip hanging nearby, "I am more interested in the martial arts, you know unarmed hand-to-hand stuff. I like to keep my hands free for other things if you know what I mean but say, a whip could prove useful and fun if you are into that kind of thing," she says giving him a coy look. "Otherwise, I am not much interested in carting about heavy weapons and the like, not really my style as I am looking forward to giving these wings a go and learn to fly. So what do you recommend?"
When she gets a chance Cassie will browse the inventory, besides what she came to the school with she is interested in acquiring a few things like; a whip, component pouch, healer's kit, insect repellent/sunscreen-salve, a standard pouch, and a few sacks.
OOC: Cassie looking as things progress and characters advance to pick the Monk class as a multiclass option. So looking to keep the load she carries to a minimum, no armor, her hands-free making it easier to concentrate on spell slinging.
"A whip? Interesting choice, very limited in defense but great for attacking at a distance and for utility." He says this as he reaches behind him and hands you the whip, while apparently disregarding your flirtatious gestures. Maybe, he is adhering to the standard Teacher/student relationship rules.. Or maybe he desires nothing other than testing his combat ability, he then puts your curiosity to rest when he flashes his wedding band while giving you playful grin.
He hands you the rest of the items that you request.
Tellier looks surprised as he catches a sword belt with a dagger and rapier sheathed, then nearly topples over as a leather breastplate catches him in the face. Rubbing his nose, he looks down at the items in his hands and speaks up, alarmed, "This is just P.E., right? Why do we have to get actual weapons?"

Janus leans across the counter to examine you closer and speak to you directly.
"It will serve you well to quickly learn that nothing here is like what you are used to in your old life. This is not P.E. - Welcome to Martial Arts & Weapon instruction. Dragonborn, it will be interesting to see how you develop. Have you mastered the use of lightning yet, Bronze Dragonborn? If not, we will focus on this for you."

Draining.” He shakes it off for a moment and says, “That crossbow looks cool. I’ve always thought they were neat. Can I have that one?” And instant headache hits him like a sack of bricks and he hisses out more snakelike in nature “and the daggersssss there.”

The goliath, hands you the cross bow along with 20 bolts, and... pauses for a second before handing you the daggers.
"Daggers are a personal weapon, you have to get close enough to risk getting your own hands dirty with your opponents blood. Hesitation with this weapon will lead to failure, injury and even death. Consider these words your first lesson, we will build your confidence with them."
He then proceeds to hand you the rest of your equipment.
After the students acquired their equipment, he leads you all to an outdoor area located in the center of the Armory. The ground is made of sand, making it difficult to move quickly.
"You will all be split into groups. You lot are with me"He says this while gesturing to the party."My name is Janus Inizio. (Ya-noos In-itsio) You however, can call me Jan (Yawn) if you'd like. I will be your instructor for the remainder of the semester"
Janus, instructs you in the ways of physical and magical combat. Different parts of his tattoos would glow every time he casts a spell. It was interesting to see how he used magic along with martial arts to fight. You can tell he was holding back, his strength with his sword is easy to see and would overpower you relatively quickly.
"Now, for your first lesson! In front of you are dummies that you can use as targets for practice. Do not worry about your stamina, I want you to cast TODAY!"
After your first day of class you are all pretty beat up. You've attained a ton of knowledge on your first day, so much knowledge that your minds feel exhausted, however, the knowledge you gained from Janus, was particularly punishing on the body. You've all lost about 85% of your health during the lesson and came back to your dorms beaten and tattered, but feel like you now could take-on anybody that were to challenge you to a fight, physical, magical or otherwise.
At this point, you have been attending class for a couple months -
At night while you sleep you receive a dream/vision:
You find yourself in a heavily wooded area, you’re walking down a path that the woods seem to create when you find an elf sitting up on a tree branch about 10 feet of the ground. She has a copper hue to her skin with faint green that seem like her veins just below her skin. She has black hair with bright green eyes.
The girl says “You are developing quite well! Much better than I anticipated. That is good, you will need to be strong for the coming challenges ahead.”She hops off the branch and lands confidently and gracefully onto the ground. She walks steadily towards you, seemingly measuring you with every look. She is face to face with you now, when suddenly you feel a tremor on the ground. The girl look around in a startled way, then forces her attention back to you. “Things are about to change in a rather big way, unfortunately you won’t have as much time as I had hoped to develop your skills! You need to wake up, gather your team and put a stop to the events that are to come. You are not destined to be students, what you must learn will not come from a tidy text book, gather the resources you need and head across the oceans to the east. To the land of pharoahs.” She looks around frantically as the tremors begin to grow in frequency. “They know I am here, I must run! When you wake, gather your team and defend yourselves anyway you can!” A symbol is seared onto the top of your left hand, the pain is great enough to wake you from your sleep. As you wake up you hear the elf's voice faintly saying as it fades "This will help." You somehow know that the "team" that the elf referred to are the students that were assigned to the same group as you in Janus' class.
As you regain your senses, you hear feel a tremor in the ground. You look outside your windows... You see skeletons attacking the school almost too many to count. Suddenly you hear bells sounding through out the school. A voice comes through the PA system.
"We are being attacked, all staff prepare to defend the students."
For the moment you are safe in your dorm rooms.. What do you do!?
You are reaping the results of your studies. Your knowledge in the arcane along with your technique on combat have improved greatly.
Level up your characters to LEVEL 3!
Raw Check results:
Asher: The symbol awards you an AC increase (+1).
Kraft: The symbol awards you the ability to hold your breath for 10 minutes
Tellier: The symbol awards you agility. You may increase your Strength or Dexterity score by 1. Maximum 20
Cassandra: The symbol awards you the ability to hold your breath for 10 minutes
Cesar: The symbol awards you the ability to speak one additional language
(Isabel: Once you provide your roll check I will let you know what you get)
You start to envision hugging yourself when all of a sudden your frustration come rushing back into your mind!
Your tail suddenly whips to the side, whipping a students text book out of his hands, sending the book flying straight into his face!
"Haha, keep practicing and you'll eventually get the hand of it."

Gash - Lvl14 Goblin Wizard - The High Court of the Aasimar Queen

Asher looks over the equipment. He feels the voice again as he looks toward a pair of daggers decorated with snakes. “You can watch with a dagger. Their eyes. Draining.” He shakes it off for a moment and says, “That crossbow looks cool. I’ve always thought they were neat. Can I have that one?” And instant headache hits him like a sack of bricks and he hisses out more snakelike in nature “and the daggersssss there.”
Gash - Lvl14 Goblin Wizard - The High Court of the Aasimar Queen

You lot are with me" He says this while gesturing to the party. "My name is Janus Inizio.

That is good, you will need to be strong for the coming challenges ahead.” She hops off the branch and lands confidently and gracefully onto the ground.
