Pretty Magician ☆ Magical Dungeon!
This is a game that will probably only be of interest to a certain kind of player but maybe some of you will like it: a D&D take on monster-of-the-week magical girl shows (or fighting team sentai shows if that's more your flavor)!
Setup
You are a «Magician», an ordinary person granted a special gift: you can transform into a special outfit and draw upon heroic powers! (While transformed you have D&D class levels.) Chosen by a talking pseudodragon, you are tasked with searching dangerous dungeons for powerful artifacts that must not fall in the hands of Chaotic Evil, a shadowy coalition of villains and monsters!
Character Creation
Create a Level 1 D&D character, 27 point buy. That's not you: that's your Magician alter-ego! Create another character, a Level 0 character; THAT'S you.
Level 0 Characters
You have 6+Constitution hit points, a race and background, but no class; you have any languages, skills or tool proficiencies your race and background provide. (Custom background is okay.) Use 27 point buy. You have one special ability: transform as an at-will ability, taking one action, which turns you into your Magician alter-ego. (You may change back to your regular self as an at-will ability taking one action.)
Magician Characters
Despite the name, Magicians don't need to be magic users. Be sure to describe your Magician's appearance, especially their outfit; flashy is good! Your Magician doesn't have to have the same background, stat points, or even age or race as your regular self, but something that thematically joins the two characters is important. One special thing about Magician characters, if you are reduced to 0 hit points you revert to your regular self, at 0 hit points but stabilized. You also revert when you rest, short or long. EDIT: I almost forgot the most important thing: every Magician needs a Magical Name! You know, something short, snazzy and thematic along the lines of Sailor Moon, Red Ranger, Cure White, or The Stig!
What I'm Looking For
A team of five Magicians (don't have to all be female as you aren't strictly speaking Magical Girls) to be chosen by the talking pseudodragon.
A Second Game?
If there is enough interest there will be two threads, Magicians ☆ Magical Dungeon and Magicians ★ Magical Dungeon, ideally with five characters each. The plot will be the same, at least to start with, but I'm sure the games will diverge over time.
can the linking factor between the 2 be something of contrasts? kinda thinking on the style of the hulk (weak genious vs super strong but low intelegence) or shazam (small weak kid vs op dude) oe Jackil/Hylde (good vs evil, lawful vs chaotic)
Wilfan is a scholarly gnome. He is quite shy and socially awkward but has a thirst for knowledge. He transforms into the brash and extroverted Lolu Earthcaller. A Goliath Giant Soul Sorceress who acts on impulse but gets along with everyone. I am looking for a better picture of Lolu yet but this is close just too gritty.
Neat, I like it! Yes, coolasc's idea to allow diametric opposites for the linked characters was a good one. (It's optional though, other players don't have to do that.)
For some reason, this sounds fun. ish. eh. If this post is deleted, im out, but expect to see it edited with a character and such.
Yeah, no, this sounds fun. Yes. Wait for me.
Magic Name: Ammon, Swordsman of Egypt (I don’t have 2 slots. So, what i’ll Do is I’ll edit it for the correct situation. Make my HP in the Temp HP section my non-magic HP, and then add the correct proficiencies for when I switch, when I do switch.)
Normal Name: Shabaka
Race: Changeling
Magician Class: Monk (I plan to multiclass into a Magic User later on. Going Kensei)
Costume: (I like this one for some reason. Picture the little staff thing in his hand as a sword.)
Little Backstory Blurb:
Shabaka’s persona is of a tall but skinny Half-Elf, named Shabaka. He is a Knight of Egypt, protecting the tombs of an ancient Pharaoh. Or did. He wants to learn magic, and, while practicing it, let in a few hundred demons. Just a few. No big deal. He and his order, sworn to protect the Tomb, fought back, but only Shabaka lived.
Shabaka is not afraid to tell a friend that he is a changeling, but otherwise stays as a Bald half-elf. Few know his name, and he isn’t afraid to use deception.
Even while Shabaka the Elf, Shabaka is quite strong. But not strong enough. He only lived the demon attacking because they don’t attach their summoner. He plans to get stronger, enough to wield a stronger sword, and get revenge on the demons tat have plagued his life.
I know I'm already in one of your games, but I may have to double-dip here if you'll have me, this is SUPER neat. I've got a bit of time to work up a character this morning, I'll edit this post with something substantial soon.
Ok I have another one. A young girl who loves animals and is accompanied by a fawn transforms into a Wood Elf Ranger, Eventually the Fawn also transforms into her Elk companion. Which ever will fit your idea better works just fine for me.
Travan Torrias, son of Iris and Evandra Torrias, is what you may expect from the son of the thriftiest merchants this side of the coast. Somewhat heavyset and always well dressed, his life has been one of privilege with plenty of gold to go around. He was perfectly content to go on in much the same way, but he couldn't deny that something within him pushed him to do more. Maybe it was guilt towards those less fortunate, perhaps a desire to see the world beyond his counter and wares, but something at the back of his mind thirsted for something more than commerce and coin. He wanted to help others, to save the downtrodden and avenge the forsaken, to become a hero of renown and legend... but he knew that such a life could never be his, so he begrudgingly set his fantasies aside. His path had already been set.
Appearance: Stocky and a bit on the heavy side, tanned skin and blue eyes. His ashen brown hair is well groomed, resting at roughly shoulder length when not tied back. He often dresses in finer clothing, well tailored doublets and tunics.
Personality: Well meaning if not a bit pampered, Travan isn't used to a rough life of adventuring. His heart is often in the right place, but the strain of the world can often bring his more entitled tendencies out to be seen.
Appearance: The Gilded Stag is a tall, well built Wood Elf. His copper complexion is covered in golden tattoos and markings, his hair is raven black and wild, and his eyes shine a bright yellow. He wears an open hooded green robe with nothing underneath, a pair of loose grey harm pants, and leather boots. Tucked into his belt are various flowing fabrics, including a green length of cloth that hangs from his belt buckle. His fists are adorned with a mighty pair of golden gauntlets inscribed with various elven runes.
Personality: Stalwart and duty driven, The Gilded Stag is everything Travan wished he could be as an adventurer. He leaps into danger, often without a second thought, and passionately fights off anything that may stand in the way of his cause. He may be a bit brash and competitive, but just like his true self beneath the transformation, he often means well... even if his simpler approach to problem solving isn't always the right choice.

This sounds like fun. :D What races are allowed?
Anything available through D&D Beyond, or run something homebrew by me and as long as it's balanced I'll probably go for it!

I love that idea; definitely allowed!
This only sounds amazing! :D
We PM you ideas and character descriptions or here?
Thanks for this!
Either way works, just depends if you want to keep secrets to be revealed down the line or want to get feedback from others.

Haven’t used this account in forever. Still a big fan of crawling claws.
Glad to have you. : )
EDIT: I know you're not finished yet but I already like it.
Ohhhh boy.

Absolutely fine to double-dip, interested to see what you've come up with.
Thanks! Just watched some Egyptian themed show, got that on the mind. Now just gotta think of a Race and Class that fits my theme :)

That's a neat idea with the transforming companion animal; I'm fine with either, so just think a little which you'd have most fun playing!
