The Wild Flame Pact, an agreement to hold back the tide of monsters surging from the Dreadwood. As the nightmares within the forest swell with numbers, it is up to the sworn to cut them down. The crown acknowledges the danger it would cause if left unchecked, the elves see the pure evil in the amassing mob of monstrosities, and the treants feel their domain being twisted, changed forever in a cruel mockery. They hold the line, with blade and shield, sorcery and runes, fists and rage, they drive them back. Yet, their numbers are still strong, even after so much tainted blood soaks the ground. All it seems to do is feed this devilish forest, as their dark canopy spreads, blotting out the day. And the night goes on forever in the deep, letting all the nightmares rise and go about freely, to terrorize all and feed off them. If the Pact fails, then this hellish night shall spread about like a wildfire.
That is why we fight. To push them back. To push back the monsters that the night brings. To bring light back to the tainted forest. So that those monsters go back to their shadows, where they cower from the light. For we are the light, we bring the flame to ward off their evil. To protect the innocents, for our loved ones to feel safe, and to show that no matter what evil comes from the darkness, we're able to fight back. And let there be no doubts, for we can purify this forest. There is someone responsible for this poison and still lives. Deep inside the forest they rest, their poison touching even our minds in the forest. Trying to have them journey deeper in and serve them. We must destroy that one, for they are the heart of this foul darkness. They are the one that threatens the kingdom, summons its evil, and twist this world to its wicked taste. We must fight the night!
(Hello, this is a more combat-oriented campaign I'm going to try. It will be based in the Saltmarsh region and focus on the Dreadwood. The players will be a party sent to venture in the Dreadwood, slaying as many monsters they can before either heading back, dying, or succumbing to the haunting dreams. The players will rest at Burle, a keep, where they can cash in their kills and prepare for the next excursion. They also be able to buy and sell items in Saltmarsh, selling items they've found in the Dreadwood. And it won't be just encounter based, as the forest is vast. There will be lairs, mansions, and caves to do dungeon crawls along with bosses to fight.
A more interesting thing I'm going to try is to incorporate player deaths. If one falls in the forest, the other characters may find another adversary to fight. If a whole group falls, then that is just another group of enemies waiting for another party. Along with their inventory being their loot if they beat them. If one is such a great hero, how would they do as a villain? As such, if your character has been exceedingly effective against the monsters, if they die, they'll get their own dungeon. If the player wishes to design it, they are free to, otherwise, I'll base it off the character's more base desires.)
The following races are not allowed:

Short Bio (Why are you here?):
(PM the app, will start characters before the notice board in Burle.)
All will start at level 1, along with whatever equipment your background brings. Leveling shall be done by XP, instead of Milestones. And stats are to be point buy, as for some reason, my players are granted about 3 18s when they play in my games. And to further elaborate on what is not in this campaign, the backgrounds and items from the GGtR are not allowed; the magic items, backgrounds, and dragonmarks from the WGtE are not allowed; the more monster-like races are not allowed as they will be combatting them in this campaign, along with player looting being an active rule as well, will make them a possible target for more evil or chaotic characters. And I'm not going to allow PC killing for the simple reason of they look the same.
So to clarify:
Characters start at level 1
Any class is allowed
Point buy for stats
Certain races are not available
Bugbear
Goblin
Hobgoblin
Orc
Kobold
Gith

All of GGtR races

If you die in the forest, you may turn undead if not brought to a safe place or out of the forest in 10 minutes.
Gaining levels is XP based, both on combat and social encounters.
Players will be put in a party, by either their choice or random. No Solo expeditions. Players may stay with their current party if they choose to, no need to change every expedition. Will address the players by their party name they've made or alpha, beta, gamma, etc, party
A party is considered a minimum of four and a maximum of 6, all equally leveled.
A seperate forum will be made as to represent the town of Saltmarsh. It is seperate as to split downtime activities and active combat.
The morning breeze blows softly through the fields, shifting the fields of wheat in unison as it travels. Like a golden sea, it rises and falls with the push of the wind. A content scene as the farmers go about, tending to their livestock or doing chores about the farm. Although at the top of the hill lies a small fort, it doesn't tower above them. Instead, they look to it for safety it brings their family and livelihood. The road inclines upward towards the keep and just outside its gates is a giant board. Filled with various bounties, requests, and pleas, the wind ruffling them as they're tacked to the board. Various people enter the keep, rangers still clad in dirt and leaves; swordsmen with all manors of swords; even bards as they play and sing of their journeys. Each one stops to look at the board, and either they smile or grimace, a few happily shout while others swear.
Yet they all still enter the keep, and leave with heavier purses as the coins cling together. Can you all do the same thing? Some of you choose to do this, some of you don't have a choice. Either way, it is up to you to do the expedition. You are free to hunt whoever dares to challenge you, capture those monsters for study, or get those critical ingredients, no matter how toxic they are. But you cannot do it alone, you need allies.
(Feel free to describe your character if you have been invited to the campaign.)
Nestled up against the city walls just outside the gate a figure hunkered down watching the stream of people entering the city, a black beak sticking out from its dirty black cloak. Every now and then a feathered claw would dart out to grab whatever might have fallen from a distracted person walking by. Its head titling back and forth listening to the surrounding cacophony of sounds, muttering to itself in reply.
A young acolyte wearing scale mail and a blue scarf approaches the sign. He turns toward the forest and stares for a while, before looking at the board.
Rolend is young by elf standards, and wearing a battered and dirty white karate gi. (Basically, think Ryu from Street Fighter, but darker skin and less muscled due to being a wood elf.) He cracks his knuckles, hangs his arms over the spear resting on his shoulders, and skips up to the board. He is smiling as he sees others approaching the board too. He mumbles out loud the advice he was told: "you cannot do it alone, you need allies."

A small cart pulls up with a covered cage in the back. A human wearing the clothes of a priest gets off before walking to the back and hitting the bars of the cage with a club. A muffled grunt comes from inside, followed by the sounds of someone cursing quietly. The clergyman drags the cloth off the cage, revealing a halfing in beat up clothes, hardly more than rags. He pulls a key from his pocket, unlocks the cage, and then drags the halfling out before tossing him, unceremoniously, into the dirt.
The priest locks the cage, climbs aboard the cart, and rides off back into civilization.
The halfing gets up and brushes himself off before he approaches the board and those standing in front of it. He yells, "Alright, are you run down folk supposed to be my backup? Let's get this over with as quickly as possible. Call me Alter. I'll figure out what to call you."
He flourishes two daggers from inside his coat before sheathing them by his sides and waits, expectantly.
Rather than shake hands, Rolend does the forearm-grab greeting. And gives Alter a friendly slap on the back.
"If that black beak joins us, that's four. I've heard the Pact requires at least that many in a fighting group... Should we head out to bust some heads, or try to get another person or two for the Alpha Noobs ?"

Davar, a tall pale goliath, slowly approaches the keep gates. Wearing nothing but leather pants and boots, carrying a small bag and a greatsword on his back. He glances at the other adventurers as he passes them and walks straight to the board. Without turning around he says:
"You all new here too? How about a plus 1 to your team?"
A grim looking fellow stands off to the side, clad all in black. His cloak mostly covers his face, but you see a glint of silver hair shining from beneath, as well as something odd—one of his eyes is dark green, but the other is a deep, gimlet red that seems to shine with an otherworldly glow. Two shortswords hang loosely from his belt, and a longbow and full quiver are slung across his back. His armor has a strange symbol embossed upon it, one that sort of looks like an S and a T entwined together, with a sword piercing through them both.
If a gap in the conversation presents itself, he introduces himself and then quietly slips back to his shadows.

Alter grimaces as Rolend brings him in, “Whatever you just said, I refuse to be referred to by it.”
