Taking a pencil and paper, Thomas spends the hour recalling from memory the detailed ritual to summon an Ophanim - a celestial helper spirit from Jewish Kaballah. With odd items, spices and such gathered from the kitchen of the house, he begins a ceremony, hoping that the hobby he had produces a result he could understand. When strange lights and sounds start appearing, he hesitates, but then continues onwards until he softly hears a voice inside his head.
*Who calls for help from God's Realm?*
%Uh, Myself. Me. Thomas Rierson. %
*Thomas Rierson, I am Gamliel, one of the Ophan, a spirit of the Circle. I heard your call across the planes and came. Although I've not heard a call from this plane for hundreds of years. *
%Hello, Gamliel. Uh, yes, things have changed here. Magic has returned. I was trying to make a pact with a spirit to help me in the world. Will you?%
*I came, did I not? The only thing left for you to do, to have my aid in your world, is to choose my form.*
Momentarily thinking of Ghostbusters, he grins, shaking his head and thinks %How about the shape of an owl?%
*It is your choice. You can change it later, if you choose differently, but it does require effort. More importantly, realize that this is just a tiny bit of my essence, brought here in the chosen shape. It has no significant value and can be destroyed fairly easily. In fact, you are merely one of many beings who I am a helper for, across many Realms. *
%Sounds like a lot of good conversations ahead.% Thomas responds
With that, a light shines in front of Thomas' ceremony and coalesces into a solid shape of a dark-winged owl with eyes that hold stars.
Going back to the group, Thomas grins wide and introduces his companion "Hey everyone. Magic works! Say hello to Gamliel!"

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar

While Uthvern sees Thomas working on something, he heals up, 8. However when he sees Thomas return with an owl while saying, "Hey Everyone! Magic works! Say hello to Gamliel!" He shakes his head, "What's so useful about a normal owl? You might've just fed him something he liked." Uthvern rubs his face, feeling stubble, "Let us get on with business. Eva got taken by a group of Cannibals. Either way, for multiple reasons, we need to find this group. Is there anything anyone else has to say? Add in?"
Ooc. Is the enemy lackey bound or anything? Cause if not Uthvern will want him bound with whatever he can.
"Actually, it's not a normal owl. This is an intelligent spirit in an owl form. It allows me to see through it's eyes and can speak to me telepathically. It will be a great scout. Once we're ready to go, I'll have him hang up above and help scout out these 'Eaters'" Once George is ready to leave, Gamliel will fly out into the night, scouting above the moving group and looking for evidence of the Eater's passage with their prisoner.

He is bound and it'll probably be a good idea to gag him too.
After you rest George starts tracking and follows the trail of Eva and her captors. Dawn is approaching as you come upon the eater camp. There is a fire with a couple of guards warming their hand (idiots) plus 10 or so sleeping figures on the ground. Tied to a tree is Eva and another man. He doesn't look at all well and seems to be missing his lower right leg.

An aerial overview of the camp two guards not guarding very well and 10 more asleep around the fire.. Eva and someone else tied to a tree.
Whispering, Thomas says "Attacking from the dark gives us a great advantage. We could get a couple of shots in and maybe take out the guards without them knowing. Maybe Juliette could replace one of them to allay the suspicious, after we take them out?"

Well before he does anything else, Uthvern shoves a sock into the guys mouth to gag him saying, "If you try anything, I'll know. If you go to even try to escape, I'll know. I will kill you with no mercy if you go to do anything that would get noticed. Capiche?" intimidation 17
George takes some time to study each of the cannibals, watching the way they move, carefully noting their ragged clothing and the weakness in their scrapped together armor.
While he does he quietly mumbles under his breath a mantra, one he picked up long ago and had largely forgotten - one he's used over the years to soothe his conscience. He wonders about it now, even as he speaks the words and wonders just what power these words might hold: 'know that we take not these lives not from joy but from necessity, that we return them back to the earth from whence they came, that they may feed the earth and restart the cycle'
Once he was satisfied that he could learn no more about these killers, George slunk back down the trail to confer with the rest of the team. After listening to Thomas's account about his Owl (which is insane, but what's more insane is the Owl is right and Thoms somehow knew what the f***king owl saw?!?!?!) George sketches up a quick outline of the camp and marks the location of the guards in the dirt on the trail floor:
'OK, Thomas and I can try to take out two guards, and then Juliette can slip into the camp and free the prisoners.'
'We'll probably need a distraction of some sort to get the Prisoners out - Herman - can you chuck a couple of the Molotov cocktails we made into the fire? That should take a couple of these eaters out of the fight and confuse the rest.'
'Uthvern and Max, you keep Juliette and Eva in your sites and be ready to get in there and assist/protect them as needed'
Ooc: if we reach a decision, Herman is happy to comply, so don’t wait for me, this time I might be busy.
Herman is attracted by the chance of launching bottles but adds “I am ok for the Molotov, but don’t we wake all the others?!”
flashback about magic: Herman cannot believe his own eyes about the magic tricks, he asks Thomas to excuse him “I really didn’t believe....but anyway I don’t wanna giggle in any of this, maybe when you understand how to defend ourselves against any who uses it...”
Fair point - I suppose I was planning for the worst. We can hold the firebombs in reserve in case Thomas or I screw up in taking down the guards.'
George thinks back to his run of misses during the last battle and breaks out in a cold sweat. It really will call come down to one good shot - and if he misses his friends here could get hurt.....
OOC - Advantage on our attacks from the dark, since they can't see us?
Carefully and quietly cocking the crossbow, Thomas whispers "We need one of those sleep spells or something, and make sure the sleeping dogs stay that way until they're dead. The other guys we fought I had no issue with keeping a prisoner, but these cannibals can go to Hell, probably literally now. I'll take the guard on the left. We should pair off on each of them and see if we can take them down without an alarm."
Taking careful aim, he waits until the go ahead is given, then launches the quarrel into the chosen guard. Attack, including Sneak attack damage :Attack: 16 Damage: 7

The Eaters don't see you coming and you strike the guards Thomas hits but doesn't quite take out his but Herman puts an axe in his head to finish him. George?
OOC - Depending on the results of the other's shots, do we get advantage for being in the darkness or does Thomas need to Hide(Stealth) to get advantage on the next shot?

Well if the other guard goes down you'll get a chance to hide from anyone that wakes up (if anyone wakes up), also George. If no one spots you then you still have surprise for the next round.
“Any objections to freeing our friends and then putting these throwbacks down? Think of it as God taking a direct hand in proving their theory wrong. “
