Aleister C looks at George, nodding his head in agreement, "Yeah, these do kinda scream 'Arrest Me!' don't they. Well, if it is any consolation, in medieval times knights packed their armor until everyone decided to have a battle; then everybody more, or less agreed where to have and what time the start was to be." He shakes his head, "Of course I somehow get the impression that things will be a bit different now. I think the chainmail will be enough for dealing with shit like eaters and their ilk. If the shit really hits the fan, well, running like hell might be the smarter course; live to fight another day sort of thinking. Anybody here read Sun Tzu, Mashimoto Musashi or von Clauswitz? I have the books if anybody is interested, excellent treatises on war."
Aleister makes sure he has plenty of medical gear, and has all his traveling gear properly stowed.

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
Thomas is reluctant to replace the combat armour with far too obvious chain. “I think I’ll stick with the leather. That shiny stuff is very, umm, bright. Maybe I can figure out a magic to hide the advantage of the hi tech gear. “
OOC - can’t use medium armour. ;) maybe after we level.
“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
Uthvern nods as well, "Indeed, better to not draw attention to ourselves. I'll have the chainmail if you dont mind please." He then looks at Aleister, "If you dont mind, I'll read some of them. I heard Sun Tzu was pretty badass."
Uthvern then looks up, "Wait, if we're a mercenary group, shouldn't we have a name for our group? Even if it's all falsified information, it's better to be safe than sorry, right?"
Aleister says to Thomas, "When there is time we can darken the chain mail using some browning, kinda like bluing a gun barrel. Take a glass jar, gallon size or so, put a bunch of iron nails in it and cover them with the acid from a car battery, let that sit for a few days til it gets muddy looking. Set the mail into a shallow tub, pour the mix over it and let it set for three, four hours. Then, with some nice thick gloves, preferably rubber, pull it out, rinse with water and buff it with steel wool using a bit of oil. Voila, the metal will be a nice dull brown, pretty much non-reflective. Can do that to and ferrous metal." He smiles and turns to Uthvern, "When we get back I'll fetch 'The Art of War' for you."

Herman doesn’t care about armors, too much encumbrance.
but he is starting to like the Alastair guy.
@Krivoi: consider that Herman is a survivalist, climber (Barbarian). For the sake of the game let’s just consider that in free time he asks you about their general interest, I don’t post it because, unlike you, I would not know what to write
'Ordinarily, I'd make the trek off-road - looking for game trails and to stay in the shadows, but given the size of our party, the injured Professor here and the long term need to establish a trade route, it's probably to stick to the main road - even if it means punching through any bandits who may have taken to waylaying travelers.'
Looking over the group and rubbing his chin, George works the problem over in his mind. Nodding, he starts sketching out a marching order in the dirt at their feet.
'Ok, here's my suggestion. Big, loud and scary - with a twist. U, Max, Ael, Herman and I gear up as scary as we can. Spears, chain, and shields for everyone except Herman - we want to look serious and scary on horseback. Max - you stick close to the professor and the gear in the wagon. Thomas - you can cover point with your new friend and rearguard yourself. The plan will be to plow through any opposition - but Thomas, your job is to make sure we know what we're getting into and then break free if things go south to warn the town.'
[I assume the Mayor is sending us with some trade samples? Things the town can make or has in excess? Toilet paper? Running shoes? Scale Mail? Canned herring? Seed potatoes?]
Thomas speaks up "George, Gamliel and I can only speak mind-to-mind when we are within about thirty meters. Any further than that, I can feel his presence but not much more. Maybe I should stay up front for now and he and I can drop back if we encounter anything?" Once that's decided, Thomas takes the point, Gamliel flying high ahead to stay out of easy spotting or shooting ranges, watching for threats or unusual activity.

Uthvern chuckles, "Acting big and scary, I can do that. I just love acting like a dick!" He takes his place with a shit eating grin on his face, before he seems to transform into a different person. Someone who looks violent and likely to lash out at enemies before him.
Aleister will fall in near the Professor. "Professor, if you need anything let me know, okay. And, if the balloon goes up, stick as close to me as you can, I'll do the same. If worse comes to worse we might have to light out like a pair of startled rabbits."
He will secure his Steiners around his neck and at every opportunity give the surrounding terrain a good eyeballing (out to about one thousand meters at least, if possible) looking for any sign of something 'not right'. When he is done scanning he will make doubly sure they are safely tucked back inside his vest were they'll not get damaged or, heaven forbid, lost. (They are a very special item)

She hadn’t intended to as the Prof has seen everything and the idea was to travel light. However, using your plan samples are fine.
You get your disguise in order and set out. It's about six days east to Junction City and the 99 North. Glamliel flies ahead and back to Thomas in a big circle warning of any dangers ahead.

A mostly uneventful trip until the morning of the sixth day. Very few people where spotted and those stayed well away from you.
Glamliel comes shooting back at top speed and lands on Thomas' shoulder and sits there quivering. Thomas gets a picture in his head
Quietly Thomas notifies the rest of the group. "Looks like some escaped zoo tigers have made a home nearby. There are young, so we need to go well around." He then asks Gamliel to find a safe path downwind of the family.

"If we are not careful," Aleister says, "they could become problems in the future. Though I wouldn't mind trying to train a cub, be kinda a neat sidekick, wouldn't you think?"
He frowns, "We should mark this area on any maps as a dangerous area - Beware! Here be Tigers!" He grins, "Clever, eh?"
You take a short detour to avoid the tigers. As you get closer to Junction City your eye in the sky sees that there are a small number of farms back from the road that are being worked and at the bridge over Long Tom River the road is blocked and guarded by people in a mishmash of make-shift armour and weapons. Try and avoid them or have a chat?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
George:
'I say we chat with our new neighbors. That's part of this endeavor anyway - establish a trade route and all. And the farming makes me feel better about them - bandit's don't tend to be farmers. Thomas, this is an ideal opportunity for you to drift back and make yourself scarce in case things go badly - either so you can warn the town, or you can spring us from whatever predicament we land in....'
"Sounds good, in general. Gamliel can keep a sharp eye out, as well. OH, and the emblazoned shields might not be a grand idea to show off. Did you wnt to leave anything else with me for safekeeping?" Thomas finds a suitable spot to tie up his horse, then changes into the Ghilley suit and locates a spot to watch from afar. He sends Gamliel off to perch in a shadowed recess of the forest, within telepathy range and good sight range of the secured village.
