Penumbra readies her bow and crouches down to hide behind Salty Joe's Illusion. "The shrubbery grows fast out here in the wild." She quietly remarks with a wry smirk on her face.
(Did the map thing. I think I jiggled the map around a bit, I tried to put it back how it was. Sorry, I have never used that program before. Now I know not to click and drag on map itself.)
As Rand sees everyone motion to take position, he starts to move forward. As he nears the group, he quietly says, "There's something in the bushes you say? Any idea who or what? I want to charge in. But... I also would rather know what I'm charging in on."
Bankur, looking much better after recovering from the arrow incident, moves up beside Rand and whispers "Friend Rand, do you detect the presence of evil close to us? Perhaps that will help us know if there is anything lurking in the brush".
Bankur then reaches out and touches Rand lightly on the shoulder and utters a short prayer. A spark of light transfers between the two and dissipates quickly.
((OOC: Moved my marker on the map. Also, cast Guidance on Rand.))
As the others approach, Raldaen stretches his limbs out, unloads his crossbow putting the bolts away, and signals from where he and Tarin were hidden. Making his way over, he relays anything that he and Tarin have seen happening whilst they held watch.
"Let's get a move on then, I'll cover yer, Rand. Ain't gonna be nothing too big, or Tarin an I wudda heard it." As everyone starts taking up positions, Raldaen returns to the cover of the trees by the cliff face, and again loads a bolt, setting his crossbow to his shoulder.
(OOC - Map position done. Raldaen will be sighting down the bolt if Rand charges, and letting fly at the first foe that appears.)

Rand, who was already itching for action, feels incredibly encouraged by Salty Joe's words, and just as he is about to set off, Bankur's calm, soothing touch sends his mind to thinking about his mother. He turns toward Bankur, half expecting to see his Gnomish mother uttering words holy words of guidance as she had done so many times. Nope, that is definitely not mother! Bankur, did however, remind him, however of some of what he was taught. "That is true. I have always been able to sense the unnatural. It's never worked on goblins before, but it won't hurt to try."
(OOC: Rand uses Divine Sense. If no new information is discerned, Rand will quietly cross the stream, and then charge into the clearing and attack anything that looks hostile that he can reach - Attack: 10 Damage: 14 Rand uses Divine Guidance to add a d4 to that attack roll: 4. On the east side of the stream flowing from the cave mouth, a small area in the briar thickets has been hollowed out to form a lookout post or blind. Wooden planks flatten out the briars and provide room for guards to lie hidden and watch the area — including a pair of goblins lurking there right now! Since the party had been trying to stay quiet and hidden (and the lazy goblins weren't paying a lot of attention to the path...) Rand surprises the pair! (OOC: Rand gets a free turn, and assuming he calls out, everyone else can act in Initiative order. Movement is from your current position on the map...don't move the map! ;-)
(OOC do you want me to do a new attack roll, or use the previous post? Rolling just in case)
Surprise Round Action: As Rand gains the clearing, he yells "Two goblins in the bush! I'm going in!" and his words trail off into something like a war cry as he closes and swings his sword at the eastern-most goblin. (Attack: 7 Damage: 13)
Edit: I use bardic inspiration on that attack roll: 5 (total attack = 12) Edit2: Can I stack divine guidance? 1 (total attack = 13)
((OOC - I don't think Guidance works on Attack rolls, just ability checks, like grappling or Stealth))
Raldaen just about keeps up as he moves round the edge of the brush to the opening of the thicket, following Rand's charge. Seeing the paladin take a swing at one of the goblins, he quickly sets his crossbow, steadies his breathing, sights, and looses a bolt at the same target.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tarin moves carefully around to the northeast next to Raldaen, and peeks behind his leg. Seeing his two companions go after one goblin, he chooses the other. "Jotaro!" he yelps, with a little more haste and alarm than one usually hears in his voice. Nevertheless, a crackling arc of flame hurtles towards the goblin.
(OOC: Tarin casts fire bolt on the western goblin; ranged spell attack: 16, damage: 5 🔥.)

Penumbra realizes, as her companions charge into the fray, that her hiding place behind Salty's illusion wont help at the moment. So, throwing caution to the wind Penumbra spreads her wings and takes to the air just high enough to get over the thicket. In her haste she sees Tarin preparing a fire spell but decides to risk a little burn and decends on the same goblin Tarin is attacking. Upon making contact with her target she will attemp to grapple the creature.
Rand quietly crosses the stream and then charges into the clearing, surprising the two goblins who were supposed to be on guard duty. He attacks the one to the west, and the words from the bard are just the inspiration he needs to strike the creature down! Raldean, only a step or two behind the paladin, comes around the edge of the thicket and fires his crossbow at the other goblin. With a loud thrum and a sickly wet crunch, the bolt hits the goblin in the middle of its head, going almost all of the way through in a morbid rendition of the old "arrow through the head" gag. Tarin and Penumbra see the two goblin guards lying on the ground, red splatter across the branches and leaves of the thicket. And in the span of three breaths the threat is removed. (OOC: Move along, citizen. Nothing to see here...) The goblins carry nothing of note or value.
Assuming you continue into the cave:
(OOC: Please list your marching order.)
Just inside the cave mouth, a few uneven stone steps lead up to a small, dank chamber on the east side of the passage. The cave narrows to a steep fissure at the far end, and is filled with the stench of animals. Savage snarls and the sounds of rattling chains greet your ears where three wolves are chained up just inside the opening. Each wolf’s chain leads to an iron rod driven into the base of a stalagmite.

Tarin huffs as the group figures out how to arrange themselves. "Well, I'm certainly not going first. I don't need to experience two of those horrid arrows to the chest in one day, thank you very much." The gnome straightens out his tunic, brushing off some dust from the road. A gaping hole is still plainly evident from where the earlier arrow found its mark. "I'm quite happy to go second, however, unless someone else would prefer to be up front there for scouting, in which case I will bring up the rear."
He takes stock of the group. "But in any case, perhaps we should get the lay of the land first — inconspicuously. Shall we ask Cahoots to investigate the immediate areas on our behalf?" If there are no objections, Tarin takes a step inside and asks Cahoots to explore some of the nearby passageways. His expression goes distant, as if he's concentrating on something far away. (OOC: Stealth: 5, Perception: 13. Tarin uses his action to switch to the owl's sensory experiences and can do so as long as Cahoots stays within 100 feet and is on the same plane.)
"Nice work, you two." Penumbra says surveying the scene.
"I'll head in first, my friend. They cant hit a target they dont see."She says smiling deviously."But don't let me stop you sending your feathered friend in as well."
Penumbra sneaks (Sneak: 13 ) into the cave just far enough to to discover the room with the wolves before returning to report what she sees.
"Looks like the goblins are keeping pets inside. There is a room just inside on the right with three big mean looking dogs chained up. If we are quiet we might be able to sneak right past the guard dogs."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Nice job Rand, hope the rest o' them mouldy ankle biters go down easy as those two." Surveying the scene, Raldaen turns his back and wanders with the others to the cave entrance. "Let me follow behind Penumbra. Two hidden weapons always be better than one, and I can take 'em out from cover t' boot."
"Dogs on chains, like fish in a barrel. Let's scout the room if'n we can get past them. If not..." Raldaen runs his fingers down a bolt conveying the rest of his sentence quite clearly.
"I'd rather not kill the dogs mate. They seem pretty scared and upset. We might be able to use that to our advantage. Hey Tarin, can you reach out to them?"
Bankur moves up through the group, his attention focused on the cave entrance. As he approaches the stream he mutters a short word and glances down into the water. The water of the stream stops, then parts in front of Bankur, allowing him to cross the stream by walking on the bed of it. Once he is on the far bank, the water flow of the stream returns to normal.
((OOC: Used Shape Water to keep my boots dry. Well, as dry as boots can be when worn by someone who constantly drips water...))
"I agree with friend Joe, we should not kill innocent creatures who do not have the taint of evil upon them. There must be another way.... Perhaps we can sate them with food long enough to pass them?"
