Salty Joe - Bankur - Penumbra - creature(s) - Rand
Creature DC13 Wis save:14
Salty Joe lets loose a cacophony of magical noise intended to drive their assailant out of hiding... The voice in your heads cries out in pain and surprise, but then begins to laugh maniacally. "Oh, yes...dinner has a bite! I like...I like!! Come now - one of you give up and the others can go free!" The voice then uses your secrets to try and convince each of you that you should be the one to sacrifice your worthless life for these other, better people. They might even notice you for once - maybe even like you now!
But as it whispers in your head, you hear a noise in the cavern as it apparently is moving to a new hiding spot. Creature Stealth: 6
Target: 3 make a DC12 Con save or take 12 necrotic damage.
A visibly frustrated Bankur continues to light the various shadowed areas around the room with his torch, searching for the source of the attacks. "I wish I had a better way to help my friends, but my magics won't be of any help rooting this creature into the open."
(OOC: perception check searching for the creature(s): 17)
(We all posted /edited at te sametime! The new stealth roll is well below all of your passive perception rolls, so you don't have to use an action to see the nothic, a monstrous creature with terrible talons and a single great eye! It is only 30 feet away behind one of the stalagmites. Penumbra needs to make a Con save, but you can all take your move/attack actions!)
"There it is! and it is uhgly! I wonder what color you bleed!" Rand moves directly toward the creature, fakes underneath, but pivots his great sword around for a slashing attack that he hopes would cleave the monstrosity in half. (Attack: 8 Damage: 11). Instead of completing the move just right, he over-rotates his wrists and sends the blade whiffing harmlessly to the monsters side. (That roll was too poor to waste inspiration on)
Salty Joe causes the nothic to come out of hiding with his dissonant whispers, causing some psychic damage to the beast!
Bankur immediately casts a bolt of mystical energy at it, engulfing it in light and causing more damage!
Penumbra suffers from the rotting gaze of the nothic, which causes her to miss her ranged attack.
The creature, knowing it's cover is blown and beyond the point of sanity, attacks the closest target - Rand - with its claws, making two attacks! All the while, in your mind you hear its now incoherent babbling and laughing...
Bankur grimaces at the hits on Rand and Penumbra. Seeing they need his assistance he raises his holy symbol and says a quick prayer "May the power of Ilmater ease the suffering of my friends now." With that two small bolts of white healing light streak out of Bankur, one striking Penumbra and the other Rand, both immediately looking a bit healthier.
(OOC: Casting Channel Divinity: Preserve Life (sorry not sure how to link this). 5 HP back to Penumbra, 5 back to Rand.)
Once the healing is done Bankur equips his shield and mace and closes the distance to the creature, "Back to whatever hell spawned you foul creature!"
Rand recovers from his wide swing to rotate his swing from the other direction. (Attack: 22 Damage: 11). He feels some satisfaction as his blade drives home. "Yeah, what she said. I'd threaten to eat you instead, but I think I'd rather eat my boot. We'll leave you for the rats to eat whatever brains you have."
Bankur flinches as the creature turns its gaze on him, but the look of disgust on Bankur's face passes quickly and he attacks the creature with his mace. The hits from Rand and Salty Joe cause the creature to move in a way Bankur wasn't expecting, and his wild, overhand swing catches nothing but the floor underneath the creature, digging a sizable chunk out of it. "Blast it! Stand still you wretched hellspawn!"
Rand and Salty combine to finally take out the nothic! (Everyone gets 120XP!)
The bridges are made of wooden planks and have no rails. Penumbra see that the south one is rigged to collapse when a creature weighing more than 50 pounds moves across it. The crevasse is a steep-sided fissure, 5 to 10 feet wide and 20 feet deep. Its rough walls are easily climbed.
"Well, I'm glad that thing is dead. Everyone stay off that bridge, I think it's been rigged as a booby trap. I'm going to take a quick look in that hole, just to make sure there aren't any more surprises lurking down there. If I start screaming, come help." Penumbra says pretending not to be shaken up by the encounter with the Nothic, though it's obvious to anyone that there is something bothering her beyond the damage she took, clearly whatever the thing dug up out of her mind is not easily forgotten about again.
Penumbra decends into the crevasse slowing her fall with a couple gentle flaps of her wings. Once down she draws her daggers and takes a look around.
