After collecting all of the stuff, you make your way down the passage. It eventually open us into another room. At the back of this cave is an area that appears wet, like a mud patch or a shallow puddle, and occasionally ripples or bubbles.
"So anyone want to see what is in the mud pit... or should we just ignore it..." Gil would ask as he hangs back towards the northern wall... keeping his distance from the pit."I am fine just getting out of here... we have plenty of nice treasure now.. I just want to get back" The Verdan would say clutching his back of holding tightly in his hand opposite his staff.
"Well if the intellectual wizard isn't curious about the mud, who am I to say that we should poke around in other... whatever might live here's business?" Darvin says. "Getting out of here is just fine with me!"
You continue through the caverns looking for a way out. You leave the bubbling pit of unknown behind preferring to leave it undisturbed.
You head north and come into another larger room. It's filled with a dirty smell. You see bed rolls and the remains of food and other things as if someone or more than one someone had been living here.
A closer inspection reveals nothing of any value. You believe troglodytes may be living in the cavern. You wonder if maybe they left all of the treasure in the other rooms and niches as some sort of tribute and perhaps they served the creature. But they are gone now and likely recently. Perhaps they fled when you killed the Thessalhydra. You certainly made enough noise doing it and the creatures death screams would have made it clear the monster was dead.
To the west is another passage and following it you find what was a secret door but is now open. Going through it opens to the area just south of the pit you crossed earlier. Whoever or whatever was living in the cave left this way in a hurry.
You pass the dead spiders in your way out and come out of the cave into darkness.
The sun has set. But you remember the direction the castle was.
Do you wish to push throughin the dark and try to find the castle or rest and use the light of day?
"Hey, so do you all want to push through the dark or take a rest before going?" Gil would ask the others. "I don't want to push ourselves to exhaustion"
Finding a safe place in the woods you rest for the night. The following day you make your way back to the village.
Sir Tristan is very pleased to see you when you present him the eight severed heads of the Thessalhydra.
"My thanks good friends on a job well done! I'm very pleased to see that my investment in Acquisitions Inc has paid off. With my deepest gratitude I gladly pay you the 400 gold pieces as promised. You may also keep the items I gave to you; the rings, potions, the bags and the sword. Now please stay, I will have a feast prepared for the morrow and we will celebrate the removal of this scourge that has plagued my lands!"
Congratulations you have finished the Hunt for the Thessalhydra! As a further benefit you advance to level 4.
Role play any interactions with Sir Tristan as you feel necessary and left me know when you are ready to head back to Baldur's Gate and we will continue our adventures. Please let me know what additional information you give Sir Tristan, like if you warn him of the Troglodytes or tell him of the Upside Down and how to get into it.
In addition Whistler finds 2 Drojos Ivy and 1 Ellond Scrub plants and herbs in the forest on the way back to the castle.
"Thank you Sir Tristan!" Gilbert would exclaim as he makes note of all the items and gold in his book beforebplacing the coins in his bag. "I think you should know that the creature we killed was using a demiplane called the upsidown hidden within a Troglodyte cave to get to its lair. If you have a map I can show you where both the entrence and exits were located. That way you can choose to seal off those caves to prevent anything from going into or coming out of that place again.." Gilbert would say with a small shudder.
In response to the mention of a feast, Gil would grab his floppy ears in his hands and let out an excited squeal. "I would love to stay for a feast! It would be rude not to! We can take the opportunity to let everyone know that THIS is the kind of work you can expect when you hire acquisitions inc. to do a job!" The small verdan would say with a grin.
You spend the evening resting. The following day a huge feast is given in your honor for killing the the Thessalhydra.
Eventually though you must make your way back to Baldur's Gate. Parties are great but not very profitable. There it's always work to be done.
You head west again and a few days later you return to Baldur's Gate.
Walking the streets of the Outer City you make your to near the gates and find your headquarters still standing. You hear rumor on the streets that an earthquake had struck the day before. But the Outer City is in such bad shape that you wouldn't know the difference.
Your Majordomo, Issen, meets you at the door of your headquarters.
"Good to have you all back sir's. Try not to go so far next time? Lot's has happened the last few days and I need your guidance."
He then lists off what have been the major issues,
"First, I have taken the liberty of hiring a housekeeper. She's around here somewhere,"
An middle-aged looking half-elf woman steps into the common room. She looks to be in her 80's, which is middle age for a half-elf.
"This is Grace Malkin. She will handle keeping the premises in order while Brace maintains the grounds and cares for the horses, etc. Your franchise can have a Majordomo, which is me, 2 untrained hirelings, that will be Brace and Grace and 1 skilled hireling, that will be the cook Bavil. That's what the franchise costs provide."
He looks a bit grim,
"However, you are free to hire more at your own expense. And I hope your trip has been profitable because we need some more. The Outer City is nearly lawless. The Watch only patrols the Upper City, the Flaming Fist patrols the Lower City. Here in the Outer City there is virtually no law, except maybe the criminal gangs. If you see Brace he's got a nice shiner from running off some thieves a couple nights ago. We could use some muscle to keep the trouble away. Think about it."
He continues
"As you can see the new coat of arms is up on the wall above the bar. Looks good. And last, you may have heard, an earthquake struck the area yesterday but we seem to have suffered no damage. That should get you caught up."
Gil would move to the half-elf and shake her hand. "You seem very nice! Welcome to the team!" The verdan would say excitedly before turning to Issen. "Wow, Issen! It sounds like things have been pretty bad since we left." The verdan would say as he pulls out his log book and bag of holding before moving to a nearby table. "Well the good news is that I believe the mission was pretty successful. " Gilbert would say as motions for Issen to look at his log book. "I took note of every coin and item of value we collected on our journey. This number does not include the initial five hundred that Sir Tristan said he had paid. I haven't distributed any of the coin because I wan'ted to make sure that Acquisitions received the proper share" Gil would say with a smile.
“Well gentlemen, whilst it is good to be home, I think we might need to do something about ensuring our premises are safe. I propose to go out tonight to see what we can do about convincing these gangs it is really not in their best long term interests to assume we are an easy target. Who is with me?” Tibi asks

You relay information to Issen regarding the job you have completed so that the necessary forms can be filed with Home Office.
"It's good to see your first mission was successful and profitable. While you were gone Home Office sent information regarding the monthly maintenance fees to maintain the franchise.
It looks like the monthly fee to maintain the franchise in this old tavern building will be 120 gp. If you continue to make profits like you are that should be no problem. When we are eligible for upgrades that cost will increase but we'll worry about that then.
If you want to hire some guards I did look into the costs. 2 gold pieces a day will get you someone willing to guard the premises. Might be worth it if you are going to store all of this treasure here. Speaking of which, anything you requisitioned prior to leaving has been placed in your rooms."
"I say we hire a guard for sure! We have enough gems and small trinkets to sell that we could stand to hire a a guard.. maybe even two year and it wouldn't hurt our bottom line!" The Verdan would say with a smile as he digs out all of the gems from the bag of holding and places them on the table in front of him. "Here is 850 gold worth of gems. That should cover this months fee and a whole year worth of guard payments!" Gil would say with a smile as he pushes the pile towards Issen. "Let us know what kind of potential guards you find.. I think we would like to have a say in who you hire after all! We need to make sure whoever takes the job properly represents our brand after all!" The verdan would say as his ears say back and forth . Gil would then scurry off to his room before returning to the common room with a large sturdy chest. The small creature would struggle to push the chest up on to the table before standing on the chair and transferring items from his bag to the chest. "I plan to keep out groups treasures in here... That way it is seperate and I can keep the chest with us in my bag then if you wish." He would say with a smile.
(OOC: So my calculations figured that we had exactly 850 gold in gems which worked out perfectly to pay for this this way if you all are OK with it. Otherwise you can pipe up and suggest not paying for a years worth of guard duty up front if you want to have that coin available.. i just though it would make dividing up loot and things easier and I don't have to RP selling the gems :D)
OoC: It might be better not to pay for a whole year up front: as we become more experienced adventurers we will presumably start earning more, making the monthly fee a less significant outlay. As far as personal expenses, Darvin wants to be able to buy a breastplate and some potions, maybe another weapon or two, so would like to be able to get 600 or so now. If you no longer want to try to do the distort value thing, I'm happy to have all the buying and selling occur offscreen, if that's ok with the DM.
As Gil looks up from the pile of hems he would smile and nod to Tibi. "That sounds like a great idea! Here! Take this friend!" The small verdan would say as he tossed a feather token to the aarakara. "If we don't have another job lined up, I definitely think we should show those gangs what happens when you mess with Aquisitions Incorporated!" Gil would then pull out the [Tooltip Not Found] and toss it to Darvin. "Now your clothes can change just like your face!" Gil would say with a chuckle. he would then pull out the [magocitem]droftglobe[/magicitem] and place it in his pocket before spreading the spell scrolls and tankard on the table. "I think I am going to take this one (thinderwave) but you guys can have these other two.. otherwise I can keep then in the loot chest. Gil would then hold up the tankard. "Anyone want this? Otherwise I can probably sell it for a pretty nice profit!" Gill would then begin making four piles of coins... dividing up the coins from the mission between the four of the team members.
( OOC please let me know what you are taking. if you guys wa t to vote on using the gems to pay for a year of guard duty and one month rent, that is fine.. otherwise they can ho in the group loot chest for now and I can hopefully sell them durning a shopping montage.I want to buy spell ink and stuff.)
Darvin pulls Gil aside and says, discreetly, "Perhaps paying up front for a full year of guard services is not the most prudent thing. Why don't we pay for the first month now, and revisit the question of our regular expenses a bit later?"
"I can think of some excellent uses of that tankard," Darvin says, reaching for it. "Unless you want it, Whistler? You haven't gotten any toys yet."
"As for our next order of business, I'm all for chasing away some ruffians."
After collecting all of the stuff, you make your way down the passage. It eventually open us into another room. At the back of this cave is an area that appears wet, like a mud patch or a shallow puddle, and occasionally ripples or bubbles.
The passage continues north.
"So anyone want to see what is in the mud pit... or should we just ignore it..." Gil would ask as he hangs back towards the northern wall... keeping his distance from the pit."I am fine just getting out of here... we have plenty of nice treasure now..
