By my count, Whistler should be able to engage the Thessalhydra with his full 40ft of movement. As he runs towards, the monster, barely making a sound as he covers this distance, he draws his shortsword, letting of some light as if the moon was in the cavern with them.
He slashes with his sword but doesn't commit to heavily, ready for a retaliatory attack from the Thessalhydra. (Spend 1 Ki Point to Dodge as a bonus action)
Darvin approaches the creature cautiously, reaching for his whip, while holding his shield out to try to deflect any heads that might find their way toward him. His eyes glow briefly red as he fixes his gaze on the hydra's numerous maws (using hexblade's curse), and attempts to lash at the creature as it lashed at Whistler, minus the trying to eat it part.
Attack: 14 Damage: 9
He then stands firm and tries to protect himself with his shield.
Movement: to M10 Bonus Action: Hexblade's Curse Action: Attack with whip Planned Reaction: If the thessalhydra attacks him, Darvin will use Unsettling Visage to impose disadvantage
Seeing the savage attacks thrown at Whistler, Gilbert would back down the hallway, moving to D11 before pointing his staff towards the creature and focusing on the tip as a red sphere materializes. A moment later a red pulsating orb of flame would streak towards the hydra as he casts Chromatic Orb while the spectral bat flies behind the creature to help distract it...
Tibi sneaks in from the rear in a swoop and attempts to stab the Thessalhydra before flying back to his position Attack: 14 Damage: 10 Sneak Attack = 3

Tibi and Darvin attempt to attack the beast but find that while their weapons strike its hide is too strong and they leave no lasting impact (both miss)
As Darvin sends his whip at the beast the Thessalhydra takes a Legendary Action and attacks Darvin with its Tail Pincer.
Attack: 23 Damage: 14 slashing damage, and the target is grappled. As an action, the target can escape the grapple by succeeding on a DC 14 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check (its choice). Darvin reacts and will use Unsettling Visage to impose disadvantage
But the Thessalhyra hits and grapples Darvin!
Gilbert sends an orb of magic that strikes the creature and for a moment fire splashes across it and leaves the beast burned (hit)
As the Thessalhydra lashes at Darvin with its tail, his instincts kick in as his face shifts from that of a genial half-elf to that of a strange creature with smooth gray skin, undefined features, and a haunting white glow in its eyes. The Thessalhydra, however, is unfazed by this sight which would cause many other creatures to pause long enough to buy the changeling an extra moment to dodge an attack. Darvin's companions, however, realize that he is evidently not who he had seemed to be.
Staying on the balls of his feet, Whistler slashes again with his glowing sword before following up with a strike from his left hand and a sweeping kick, attempting to trip the Thessalhydra.
OoC: I have Darvin at 6 HP, btw, not 10. His max is 24.
On Darvin's turn:
Darvin contemplates trying to break free of the monster's tail, but decides instead to try to free himself by killing. After all, where's he going to go while this monster is still alive and kicking? Well, I suppose it would be nice to get a bit farther away and shoot at it instead of making myself an easy target, he thinks, but, well, you don't become a great adventurer by running away, do you? Or is it you don't become a great adventurer by foolishly getting yourself killed? One of those. Oh well. Die, thessalhoober... thistle hydra? Hard to remember names with this pincer tail gripping me so tightly...
Whip it good!: 8 Damage: 8
He then closes his eyes and mutters something, giving himself a little magical pick-me-up (Healing word: 9)
Edit: Alternatively, whip it as poorly as changelingly possible!
Gilbert would gasp as Whistler is brutally attacked. "Hold on Mr Kenku!" He would shout as another red orb begins to illuminate at the end of his staff as he casts chromatic orb once more. In the blink of an eye another red orb of flame would streak towards the hydra while his misty blue bat flutters around in front of the creature trying to help Gil to land his shot by distracting the creature.
(I have cast both of them at 2nd level in case you were wondering about why i was rolling so many dice. ) Attack: 22 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Tibi and Darvin both attempt to strike the monster but to no avail. But little Gilbert, the smallest of heroes, sends another globe of energy at the beast. It crackles and sparks as it slams into the Thessalhydra and the creature goes down, and it is dead!
Whistler steps back from the collapsing beast. He then turns and gives a nod of appreciation in Gilbert's direction, almost certain he was going to die then.
"Well, that was exhausting," Darvin says, falling to his hands and knees and breathing heavily as the now limp Thessalhydra's tail releases him from its grip. "Thank goodness for your magic, Gil. Truly impressive. I couldn't seem to do anything to that creature!"
"Well. I don't know about you, but I've burned through all my healing reserves, both the bottled and spell varieties... We still need to get out of here, and who knows what else lives in here, so perhaps we should rest for an hour or so before venturing on?"
