Derrikoth bows before taking a seat, motioning for the others to do the same, “No offense taken, my lady. It is understandable that great occasions put lots of stress on even the most esteemed public official, and the solstice feast is a magnificent undertaking indeed. We merely wished to inform you that there seems to have been a giant incursion near your territory, albeit a small one.
My man Nirzeg here has the proof I promised. If you would?”
Derrikoth gestures for Nirzeg to speak and present the eye he took from the frost giant.
Alus' eyes turn to saucers at the sight of the lavish spread of food. Unsure the proper etiquette, he looks nervously to each of his companions for some sort of sign as his mouth waters. He begins to sweat nervously--this is the most socially uncomfortable he's been in some time.
Where the food failed to elicit more than a small but disapproving glare, the sight of the honor guard to the Nirzeg elicits a brow raise and a sly glance between Waterbaron and entrouge. Smiling, Nirzeg takes a seat when asked, bidding mentally for Zeek to lay beside him. Even then the creatures ears are kept on a near constant swivel for any signs of trouble. "And you were so troubled Big D." He said with a chuckle behind his voice. "A pleasure to meet you my good Lady. While I confess there may yet be quite a few things Yartar can do for us, I would hate to go overboard with any requests for a mere warning of trouble. Speaking of which, those frost giants. I'll leave my more orally inclined compatriot here to spin the tale. But for some measure of proof of the dead aside from the farmers we happened to rescue. Here--"
Seeming to dig out from an inner pocket sleeve, Nirzeg eventually produces the massive eye of giant, wrapped lightly in some strange thin, see through sheet, and smelling of some bittersweet herbs. This he offers up for the Runthiol to hold if she co choose.

While Nirzeg spoke, Alus attempted to sneak handful of food into his mouth--again unsure if he is supposed to eat or not, and thus trying to do it unseen.
Sleight of Hand:5
Once the eyeball is produced, and Derrikoth is prompted to tell our tale, Alus finally pipes up, his words muffled through a mouthful of food.
"Wa-wait. Ifyerrr wuntsum reeshurrance..." he swallows "...I can guarantee you none of us say anything less than true."
Alus grabs the lightning-shaped pendant he wears around his next and closes his eye. Faint blue radiant light begins gathering around the pendant as begins casting a spell--but the light fades as he stops himself halfway through.
"Oh...errr...if that's okay with you, your Royal...Wateriness."
“There is no need,” says Nestra Ruthiol, gesturing gracefully. “And please, eat your full.”
She examines the giant’s eye with curiosity. “And this was nearby? Between here and Triboar? Dear, me. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.”
She rises and motions for her steward. “It is customary to reward information with like information. Therefore I would like to apprise you of the goings on east of here. The road between Everlund and Yartar is treacherous, ever since Everlund pulled themselves out of the Lords’ Alliance. There are no regular patrols, apart from a handful of do-gooders from the Order of the Gauntlet. Should you be continuing along the Evermoor Way, I would caution you against camping, and instead seek indoor shelter at night.”
Her steward hands you a map and points out the location of some inns along the way, where you can rest while maintaining a good pace. “This is our summer route, the one we send our retinues on. If you press forward on this route, you will likely end each day more tired, but you’ll be guaranteed a good rest each night, and you’ll cut a couple days off of your journey to Everlund.”
Astra pulls up a plate and starts putting as many things on it as she can, like it's a buffet. She begins to sample all of the various dishes the Waterbaron has to offer.

“Why wouldn’t I know about that?” says the Waterbaron, deftly peeling a cooked crustacean with her silverware. “I like to keep informed of local events. And a fire giant attack is certainly an event! Tell me, did Darathra solve the problem with the orc attacks on her farms?”

Derrikoth suddenly feels as though his shirt was half a size too small and tugs nervously at his collar, “Ah, well. She didn’t mention it, although we would have been delighted to help her, so she must have resolved it. Most likely, the orc problem was related to the giant problem, and in dealing with one we dealt with both.”
The Githyanki leans in to study the details with great interest. But even then, he kept an ear on the conversation, and would add speak up without looking away from the map. "What he means to say is this. The orcs were but a distraction to lure her forces out. While what few were not apart of the attack will remain in the countryside. With their forces no doubt depleted, the problem is dealt with for the time being." He said offhandedly while idly reaching out for a treat may be nearby. "Sadly, the same cannot be quite said of the giants, severely injured though one of them is. I suspect they will be licking their wounds for some time. More than long enough, if Lord or Lady or whichever title she prefers -- decides to follow up on the information I left her about their whereabouts, she has the opportunity. Sadly, we ourselves could not linger. The escalating problem with giants and all that..."
Nirzeg blinks slowly, and then finally looks up to the waterbaron. "On that subject, I... we have other news, though it may be old to someone so informed as you... Those three giants we dealt with? Frost giants, I do believe were? Anyhow, I imagine -- no, heheh, I /know/ they will be but a prelude. Despite the celebrations, you and your people will want to be significantly on guard for the next several months at the very least. For all clans, by our understanding at least, are going to get even bolder. And even a well-guarded city like this will crumble if not thoroughly prepared... for a war situation."He says going from almost nonchalant and cheery to staring at the waterbaron hard to hammer the point.
The Waterbaron seems reassured by the news from Triboar, and her eyes squint in steely resolve as Nirzeg speaks. “This isn’t my first river regatta, as they say.”
After ensuring that you have what you need, Ruthiol will rise to excuse herself, explaining shortly about the pressing matters of running and defending a city.
The Githyanki subtly nods to the Waterbaron and leans back in his seat. "Glad to see your people chose someone competent. But irregardless, I wish you luck in your endeavors, and thank you for the tip." Taking the eye back if it wasn't absconded with for some future need of the baron, Nirzeg finally joins in on consuming at least some of the spread before the group is inevitably escorted out.
"Well, that was productive. Shall we at least enjoy the rest of the day here, and set out early tomorrow morn? Or will one or many of you insist we move on this late in the afternoon?"

Astra holds up a single finger, indicating to Nirzeg to give her a moment to finish chewing on the food that's currently in her mouth. Once she has swallowed her food and washed it down, she offers her reply. "I'm fine with spending the evening here in Yartar. It's late and we wouldn't get far before having to either camp or find somewhere to sleep. And quite frankly, all this food has me more in the mood to take a nap than go out traveling and risk meeting a giant."

It's a rainy, blustery day on which you set out towards Everlund. After you leave Yartar, the eastern stretch of the Evermoor Way quickly devolves into a dirt-and-gravel trail, not quite as nice as the paved road you've grown accustomed to. Still, Boris the horse seems not to mind; he contentedly pulls the cart over the bumpy road.
Not many other travelers are on the road this day.
A cold wind comes from over the Evermoors, chasing away the oppressive heat that has been your companion this past tenday. Despite this, you are able to press onwards at an impressive clip, though you test your stamina in doing so.
// If you desire to follow the Wayside Inn schedule that you obtained from Nestra Ruthiol's steward, you'll get to Everlund sooner, but I'll need two CON saving throws per person. The first is DC 11, and the second is DC 12. Failure on either saving throw will increase your Exhaustion level by 1. //
The first day goes over well enough for Astra, with her being able to go the full day without being bothered by the cold. But on the next day, she is absolutely miserable in the cold and her endurance wears off quickly. "Hey Gen, this cold weather is killing me. Would you mind carrying me for the rest of the way?"

Alus is enjoying the trip, traveling through the region he's called home the past few years after joining the Emerald Enclave. He invites the rain, a phenomenon quite common to the Evermoors and one that always makes him feel closer to Valkur--and reminds him of the moment they made first contact. Though seeing Astra beginning to struggle, he uses Shape Water to form a 5ft wide umbrella of shaped water that he hovers over her head in an attempt to keep her dry if possible.

Fortunately for Nirzeg, it is less than exhausting pace that troubles him, but more so the bumpiness that leaves the Githyanki irritable throughout much of the trip. Several times he considers complaining about moving back onto the main road, only for the little voice of efficiency to whispers in his ears. Still, this does not wholly appease growing irritation. So, he avoids speaking, and whenever possible devotes himself towards little projects or mental exercises to keep things on the surface calm.
A mercy to all, as it meant they wouldn't have to hear his voice for much of it. Zeek and Wickerman, on the otherhand, are more amicable to accepting requests, and doing little things to help make the trip at least less taxing on everyone else. Zeek even goes so far as to scout ahead at times from the sky.
