"Giants? And how far away were these giants?" Nestra's eyes narrow as if trying to detect a lie. "I would be in your debt if you would provide me with proof of your claims. I do not know this lady Mithyri; should I know her?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“We found them about half a day’s travel along the Evermoor Way from Triboar. My companion managed to salvage an eye from one of them, and I could return later today or tomorrow with him to produce it. The lady Mithyri is an expert on giants, although you would have had no reason to have worked with her with the giants being so far away. At least, when they were far away.”
The Waterbaron doesn't look amused. "I suggest you return when you are more fully prepared," she says with veiled impatience. "I have a party to host. If that will be all?" She rises and calls for her door to be opened.
"She seems nice!" Alus says sincerely, and almost at the same time as Derrikoth's sarcastic remark such that the two juxtaposed phrases layer on top of one another.
"So I guess let's meet back up with the other dudes and come back here tomorrow? I have a spell I can use that would prove to her everything we are saying is honest. Though I don't really understand why anyone would lie about this. ...or about anything really. More importantly--what was with all that food? Some sort of high-society rager going down tonight?"
There is one particularly grand riverboat is moored at the docks, over 100 feet long, with three decks; it is ornately decorated from bow to stern. As you pass, an obviously drunk, merry couple of people are coming down the gangway, and another trio of people (a half-orc among them) are entering the ship from the same gangway.
While extremely impressed by the riverboat's size and curious about the crew it takes to operate, Alus shies away from inquiring about the boat with any of the people entering or exiting; it is clear to even Alus that these people are of a status that would write him off almost immediately.
As Alus and Derrikoth pass the ship on their way back from the Waterbaron's Hall, however, Alus turns to the dragonborn. "So, you're, like, a fancy guy, right? Ever been on a ship like that?"
One of the passing partygoers looks down her nose at Alus as she overhears him suggesting a "rager." The decor seems to be sun-related, and you realize belatedly that today is summer solstice.
The evening is uneventful, save for Genevieve's stellar performance. She attracts quite a crowd in the waning heat of the day.
The city seems to have a definite but unofficial "curfew." A better word for it might be "order." Every shop and business can be seen closing up well before sunset, and the nightlife seems to be nonexistent. The riverside city sleeps safely and quietly under a crescent moon.

Come the next morning, a less than quick to be off Nirzeg coats himself in the usual protective goop prior to sending both familiar and construct off to scope out the city for any sign of a proper "magic shop", or the closest equivalent, then come find him. Derrikoth looks distracted as he answers Alus, “Well, my pre-er, my writ is more or less landlocked, so I’ve never had much use for grand boats like these. As for the spell... it doesn’t seem that my vouching for you would carry much weight, and she seems to be looking for an excuse to distrust us.
News of threats in the area that one’s own informants have failed to report is concerning and, more often than not, completely false. We could be trying to foment unrest in the city by making up such an absurd threat, or be up to any other manner of mischief.
As for the food, well, food has many uses. Feasting shows the people that all is well, it can provide entertainment for important dignitaries, or even cover for shady dealings. Not that I suspect the Waterbaron of anything like that.
Perhaps it would be useful to go to that party. After this day, I could use a relaxing night. I’ll find somewhere to stable Josephus and we can see about getting ourselves inside.”
With that, he sets about looking for a nice, reputable inn that has a stable attached to it, unless he manages to find where Genevieve and the others are staying.

Derrikoth wakes in the morning feeling quite refreshed, stretching out his bruised muscles. After getting his morning routine out of the way, he heads down to the dining area to grab a bite to eat and find Nirzeg.
Poking his head into Genevieve and Astra’s room with his eyes covered, he calls out to Nirzeg, “Nirzeg! Are you here? I need you to come with me to the Waterbaron and bring your trophy!”
"God's damn you, Big D! I'm trying to seal a deal here!" Nirzeg proclaims, angrily his fist at the dragonborn. But then he cracks a smile and chuckles, playing it off with a few hand waves. "But seriously, you need me to /your/ job. Things /must/ be serious." He smirks, then looks back to the other two.
