Nobody feigns thinking about the plan before almost immediately nodding in agreement. Yes, it would be dangerous. But compared to the ultimate goal of his travels, he couldn't help but smirk sardonically at the thought of facing a few goblins in the near future. "Let me know when you're all ready." He requests of others after seeing Leona pull out the scarf. Soon as they're ready he moves onwards side-by-side with Ostran as suggested, bow ever at the ready.
(For when/if it becomes relevant during the progress forward: Stealth: 20)
Kai nods and looks to Leona. "I can make anything glow. Would my axe be sufficient?" She moves to her axe that is attached to her waist, taking the silk and casting light on her axe, covering it with the silk to mask the light, much happier having some form of light. She then patiently awaits the others advancements.
(Just to note, the axe is still on her waist, allowing her a free hand for casting while still having her shield. )
Kai you mask your axe with the scarf and it now shines dim light in 20 feet radius.
You all slowly leave the kennel and follow the passage along the stream deeper into the cave. To your left you can see small steep side passage full of rubble.
In the shadows of the ceiling to the north, you can just make out the dim shape of a rickety bridge of wood and rope crossing over the passage ahead of you. Another passage intersects this one, twenty feet above the floor.
in the distance you hear heavy bangs echoing through the cave. Bang, Bang, Bang.
It stops and after a moment you hear rumble and the sound of rushing water gets louder.
Ostran and Nobody you are close to the overhead bridge. Hazel, Moss and Mal you are close to the side passage and Kai and Leona are still near the kennel.
Kai's attention is grabbed by the sound of rushing water. How loud is it? How deep? Fast? Is it coming at them? Away from them? Where is it's source. How far away is it? She keeps a keen eye and ear out, looking for any escape routes nearby they can duck into if things go wrong.
OOC: How close is the side passage to Mal? How close is the kennel? Is Mal closer to the side passage than the kennel? Can Mal reach the side passage and go inside or will the rubble prevent him from going inside?
That doesn't sound...good.
Mal immediately looks for a place to take cover and hide.
Mal, the side passage is only 10 feet to your left, the kennel is around 15 feet behind you. There is only enough space in the side passage for 2 people, any more and you would need to climb up a step slope full of rubel.
Kai the rushing water gets louder and closer. It sounds like a huge amount and fast.
Ostran turns around and starts dashing back to Hazel's group while shouting : Run!!!
Kai frowns before taking action, quickly grabbing Leona. "We gotta move! And fast!" She'll pull Leona back into the kennel as fast as possible before remaining slightly near the entrance to the kennel, prepared to ward away as much water as possible with her powers while also keeping an eye out for any of their friends. She's more worried about them than herself. "Leona! Got any rope?" Kai will dig through her bag for hers, and once it is found, if there is time, tie it tightly around her waist and have Leona hold on to it a little farther into the Kennel, Kai prepped to grab anyone in the water
Moss, Hazel, see if you can reach the side passage. Brace yourselves or hang on to something. - Mal urgently tells them.
OOC: Mal will take the Dash action to go back to the Kennel and tries to go as far inside (hugging the north wall of the Kennel) and out of the reach of the chained wolves.
Mal runs past Kai and Leona -- RUN -- get out of the main passage - its a flood - he yells as he runs past them into the Kennel room and tries to find the safest place to stay (from what he thinks is a lot of water)
Nobody, distrusting his ability to outrun the oncoming torrent being perhaps the closest to it next to Ostran, looks to the nearby wall leading up the bridge. 'Shitty time to be daring' He thought, and yet tried all the same to find handholds to at LEAST better brace himself if climbing does little good. No matter how things play out, he is committed to the course; risking it for the biscuit.
(I assume a strength(athletics) will be necessary? Would use acrobatics, but not sure how I can flavor as a variant climbing thing. Same for intelligence, barring a quick analyze of the stonework to gauge where erosion would've done allowed certain portions to be firmer than most)
The Passage is suddenly filled with the mighty roar of a flood wave. A huge surge of water pours down from above.
Nobody tries to climb up the walls and he finds enough hold to climb a few feet up, but as the peak of the weave rushes through the cave he panics and slips on the slimy wet stones and falls into rushing water.
Hazel and Moss also get caught up in the weave, only Ostran makes it to the small passage were he holds on to a large rock as the weave rushes past him.
Kai you see three of you comrades getting washed away, but a small miracle allows you to catch Hazels hand as the water sweeps him past you. You try to hold on to him, while Leona and Mel secure the rope that is tied around your waist.
Moss you take 4 damage
Nobody you take 2 damage
Hazel you take 4 damage, half ( rounded down) if Kai succeds on a DC 10 athletic check.
Sputtering and coughing, Nobody eventually rights himself in the stream, and shakes off what excess water he could in the process. "That... Should have anticipated that... *cough*... Let us try that again."He growls out as rose to his feet. Caring not to linger even for Moss' sake, the tiefling with his tail lashing angrily behind him starts again up the path. With a snap of his finger, steam briefly rises as his outer [Tooltip Not Found].
Short of being stopped along the way, he slows only as he gets to the rise, spying Ostran across the way. 'Another miscalculation'He thought, frowning as he precedes further along the way. Drawing the Longbow once more, he takes a closer look up at the bridge as he creeps up past the corner. Then lowers his gaze to the path ahead to extent of darkvision if he spies nothing there.
After the water subsides, Kai will head to the outside of the tunnel and look around to check on the others, almost getting shoved as the angry Nobody pushes past her and up the stream. She briefly watches the tiefling with a slight smile at his angry tail lashing before she speaks in a hushed tone to the others. "Is everyone alright? Anyone hurt? No one drowned? I tried to help but I can't control that much water... Where did it all come from?"
"They know we are here, we are hurt and tired. Should we press on to rescue Sildar and risk our lives in doing so or should we retreat, regroup and come back stronger but risk Sildars live in doing so?
I cannot speak for the rest of the group. But I believe once we set foot in this cave, our course has been set. If what our captive says is true, the best chance we have to rescue Sildar would be now. If we delay, they may whisk him away like Gundren. They may get more reinforcements or set more traps.....Mal gestures to the some of the party members recovering from the water trap... for us. We should press on.
Nobody, you sneak up to the bridge as you hear Ostran kicking a stone into the river behind you. As you keep concentrating on the bridge you make out a small figure that sudenly turns toward the noise, standing in the shadows on the right side on top of the bridge.
Kai stands in the middle of the now low stream just outside of the kennels. She looks to Leona and speaks hushidly. "Moss is outside of the cave with Hazel. They'll come up momentarily. As for Nobody and Ostran. Nobody stormed by me a few moments ago. I'd assume Ostran holed up ahead? As he didnt wash past us. He'll probably join Nobody as he presses forward." Kai will return to their marching position, awaiting the others to press forward.
