Kai frowns as she spots the horses, squinting slightly to get a better look at them and anything nearby. As she does, she will address the others. "Hey. There are some dead horses up there... Should we... stop?"
Perception (for the horses and surrounding area) : 22
Upon spotting the dead horses Leona immediately pulls her shield from her back and straps it onto her right arm before drawing her longsword. She surveys the areas to either side of the road herself and when Kai speaks she turns and motions to the others to keep quiet.
Hazel looks up from his perch to get a better look at the horses up ahead. “What do you think happened? Should we go up and investigate?” Sliding down from the cart, Hazel walks up to stand next to Kai.
“Do you think whatever... or whoever killed them is still around?” With that, Hazel nervously surveys the surrounding area around the cart and reaches up to grasp at Kai like a child would his mother.
Nobody brings the cart to a stop about 65 feet away from the horse bodies, still disbelieving the sight up until then. "Looks like you're right! Oh -- sorry." He whispers, remembering Leona's motion. After stroking his chin a few times, the tiefling gives a few dainty wrist claps, causing a flying monkey to poof into existence on his shoulders. "There we are. Sorry about that Biscuit."While scratching the monkey's head, he turns to the rest. "Everyone meet Biscuit. He'll help whoever wishes to approach keep an eye out. I'd go, but--"He motions to the reigns in hand as if answer enough.
Soon as someone makes a move get close to the corpses, Fritters shadows them by at least 20 feet back and 40 feet in the air. Though it is just Leona that goes, Nobody whispers to the others, "Someone should go with her as well. Even if the danger has passed, we still need to move those bodies."
(At least you know your rolls will be consistent AirHOrse.)
(For those interested to know how Biscuit Looks, for an image truly is worth a 1,000 words in this case. ;3)

Kai looks down at Hazel with a reassuring smile before whispering. "Potentially. How about you stay back? You're better at distance right?" Kai glances between everyone else for a moment before whispering again. "Ostran. Mal. How about one of you accompanies Leona and myself over there? I think my medical abilities may be of use. But one of you should remain near the cart just in case? Right?" She subtly ushers Hazel closer to the cart before moving to follow after Leona, remaining a slight distance and surveying the area as she draws her axe, her shield on her back so that she can properly cast spells still. Before she leaves, she glances back at Nobody with a smile. "Oh. And Biscuit is cute."
Moss moves to their own horse. Gently brushing her fingers through it's mane. "You do well, Betsy," she says calmly, watching her companions approach the dead horses. She glances back at those who stayed. "Do we all fair well?"
Mal gives an outward sigh. It’s not going to be such a boring day after all. - he thinks.
He tells Kai — I am sure it’s nothing. Things like this happen all the time. Whoever killed these poor animals would be long gone by now. But why kill the horses? They would fetch a good price alive.
Mal grips his quarterstaff and leisurely moves forward to a position to the side and behind of Leona.
In a very low voice he tells Leona : I am here to back you up milady. That some of others believe I can back you up leads me to doubt their judgement on tactics given that I have neither any armor nor sword. Either that or they don’t like me very much which I find impossible. It’s still much too early for that.
Despite his easygoing demeanor, Mal is keeping his eyes on the the sides of the road for anything suspicious.
Kai even from 100 feet away, you already spot several small arrows and a large black one in each horse. You also notice a puddle of blood and drag marks right in the middle between the escarpments around 50 feet in front of you. As far as you can tell from here, the marks end where the dead horses are.
Leona as you approach the bodies, you notice the blood on the ground as you pass it, but you don't see the arrows just yet.
The gap between the hills is around 20 feet wide in the middle were they are closest to the road. There is no DC needed to climb the hill, but it is difficult terrain for everyone except Moss ( i give her a bonus here for her size).
Betsy and the wagon are on the N-W turn on the left. Nobody and Hazel are on top of the wagon. Ostran and Moss are beside Betsy. Leona and Mal are right in the middle of the gap 50 feet in front of Betsy and Kai is halfway between the wagon and them. The dead horses block the road at the E-S turn on the right, 50 feet away from the middle.
Kai eyes the goblin with a frown before looking to the others, still whisper shouting. "One goblin with a bow, two other figures with it but I can't make them out. Could be hostile... or friendly..." Kai looks at the goblin, roughly trying to figure out how far they are from her current location and whether she is in spell range.
(OOC: Here's my rough edit of the current map. I'll provide updates after a round if the dm wants.)
After a quick analysis, Kai will cast Sacred Flame on the archer goblin whenever she gets the chance. Once the spell is casted, she will watch the flames begin to emerge on the goblin and pray that they are not fast enough to get out of the way.
Dex Spell save 13:
Radiant Damage: 5
She will then move closer to the hill (as close as 30 feet will get her) to attempt to get slight cover and urge Leona and Mal to do the same (or at least find some cover from the archer(s) ) as well as alerting the others at the cart of danger.
If you write what you plan to do on your turn, i will resolve the round once most of you posted it. Feel free to include several options, eg if i see the Goblin i will use Magic Missile or else i will hide prone behind the wagon.
Also include your initiativ, if you haven’t already done so.
Mal and Leona can also see the Goblin who fired the arrow, he wears decent quality leather armor and a longbow.
He is around 30 feet away from you in the individual thicket on the north-hill and partially covered by the voilage. Because you need to climb the hill, your 40 feet movement would just be enough, but Leona would be around 10 feet away from him ( i assume she got 30 feet movement).
Hazel watches Kai go for a moment before scrambling back up the cart, whispering under his breath to calm himself.
On his turn, Hazel will fire off an Eldritch Blast at the furthest goblin he can see from his vantage point atop the wagon. Max range of 240 feet. If Hazel can spot out the goblin with the large arrows, he will attack that one.
Attack roll: 18 damage: 8 force damage.
Purple and blue lightning crackle between Hazels fingers as he charges up his magical spell, letting it loose with a rush of energy! Grim determination plastered across his face.
As the arrow is deflected off her armour Leona snaps her head towards the hill and raises her shield purely on instinct. Upon spotting the goblin attacker she begins advancing up the hill at a steady pace, keeping her shield raised to protect from any further attacks.
Born from a habit of a life of leadership she begins to shout orders to the others without giving any thought to the fact that she knows little of her new companions and whether it is her place to do so. With a quick glance towards the wagon she calls to the others:
“Pin them down as we advance upon our attacker! Watch for sign of any others behind us!”
Move: Up the hill towards the goblin(30ft movement, so as far as Leona can get like you mentioned)
He will go up the hill and try to attack (Attack with Quarterstaff and Bonus Action - Attack - Unarmed Attack) the Goblin (Black Arrow) which shot the arrow.
If there is more than one Goblin up the hill and they have ranged weapons, he will try to get beside at least two of them so that any attacks they make against him with ranged weapons will be at disadvantage. He does not do this if the other goblins have melee weapons.
If the Goblin (Black Arrow) has been taken down by any of the other party members, he will try to attack any other Goblin within range (if he sees any other once he gets on the top of the hill).
If there are more than 2 Goblins within range and his main attack takes the Goblin he attacked out, he will use his Bonus Action to make an Unarmed Attack on a Goblin within range, if possible.
If he cannot attack any Goblin, he will take the Dodge action.
Mal hears Leona's commands. He thinks - Advance she says. Easy for her to say, she's got armor which deflects arrows. I guess I'd better "back her up", we can't have the leader becoming a pin cushion the very first day. That would really be bad for morale.
Mal takes a deep breath and moves up the hill, trying to get beside the Goblin which shot at Leona. Not having any armor, he quickly overtakes Leona up the hill, amazingly reaching the top.
Attack - Quarterstaff: 23, Damage 8
Attack - Unarmed Attack: 7, Damage 7
He sees the Goblin and brings his Quarterstaff down on its head with an overhead swing following the strike up with an elbow to the face. No one said there was a toll booth on this road. More people would pay you if you didn't kill them at first sight.
