"I... Did.. Did anyone else catch that.. only for a second, but I swear I saw something" Benito has struggles with lucid dreams, and visions that torment him daily. Seeing this figure raises the hairs behind his neck. He sees this as a sign that he must begin his daily ritual of sharpening his great sword. "A sharp blade can be the solution to many problems." He does this for a while before finally falling asleep. Sharpening his blade is the only thing that can quiet his mind enough so that he may rest.
Before Benito has a chance to fall asleep, Kai frowns and quickly casts light on her handaxe to provide slight lighting for her. With a frown she will head towards the closest of the other sleeping memeber and speak slightly. "Guys... This isnt water fog. Something is wrong." As she slightly shakes awake one of the other sleeping members, she will begin softly reciting the spell and symbols for sacred flame. Once the member is also awake, she will hold the sacred flame, prepared for any danger as her fingertips glow an aqua green from the arcane energy. Kai looks around in the fog around their campsite, skeptically and alert, holding the flames at her fingers quietly.

With his experience of perceiving danger in the Underdark before actually seeing the origin of his perception, Bukowyr immediately rushes to the others to tell them "Something dark is watching us. A voice said about Barovia. Was this place in our map's route?" Knowing his alertness has been the difference between life and death, that is a situation he is actually comfortable with. The tingling in his spine, the hypersensitivity of his skin and his keen eyes used to deep dark when monstrosities lurk in the vicinity. Yes. That is how he has survived. Drawing his light crossbow, prepared to answer to the threat with his bolts.
The fog continue growing thicker to a point that seemed impossible or at least unnatural - "Guys... This isnt water fog. Something is wrong." - as the fog covers her handaxe until no light can escape through it. Oh and the first thing she can perceive is a deep and long laugh, the sound of it gives you the impression of someone grinning, you are able to locate what seems to be source of this sound but it quickly turns into a wolf that procedes to walk in circles around you, slowly walking around you until the fog creates a vortex that freezes to the touch and it spins faster and faster.
Until is all done. The fog slowly recedes but it never disappears, it lingers a couple of feet from you as if it was framing you. You slowly get to see your friends, your gear and bedrolls, the stones and the trees...but they look quite different, don't they?
(OOC: Is Kai the only one in this different situation?)
Kai frowns and remains alert, still holding the sacred flame as she checks her axe for its light. She looks to the others quietly, speaking hesitantly and quietly. "What happened? Is... It done?" She is skeptical, unbelieving that the sudden attack is over. She remains defensive, the spell tingling her fingertips. Her body shivers slightly from the sudden freezing fog and she mumbles to herself. "Since when was fog an enemy. Can't trust anything these days."

Bukowyr watches the fog for any sign of the wolf. One single wolf. That surface animal hunts in packs. Was his knowledge wrong? "Everyone on their feet. Something unnatural is at play here." The Svirfneblin takes the opportunity to realize how each and every of his companions react to this kind of danger. How reliable would they be? His mind rushes in a million strategies for something they can't see. What signs do these creatures give off to his senses?

No, everyone saw everything that I just described except the thing that turned into a wolf.
Nightgleam hoots madly at the abruptly changing scenery, confused and dismayed.
Torvus yawns at everyone's chatter and blinks himself awake, still shaking out the sleep. His eyes connect with Nightgleam as the owl mentally relays what occurred, and his own face gasps with alarm. "Where... where are we? This is no ordinary fog!"
He squints suspiciously into the fog, trying to assess its nature, origin, and its magical essence, if any.

As Torvus awakens, Kai frowns as she looks around, trying to see if there are any other threats, looking very confused but alert, keeping the spell on her fingers with a slight aqua green glow. "We can't stay here. We're not safe here."
If her light went out on her axe, she will recast light (so she does not have disadvantage on perception due to no light) on it before recasting the sacred flame again

The fog has ever so slightly fogged up her glasses and formed slight ice crystals on the lenses that she tries to wipe off as she looks around.
The fog had crept up on her. Kayla had been traveling down the road, waiting for adventure and then suddenly the world had closed in. With everything around her a misty soup, she could only continue on in a blind blunder. Her clothes soaked through and she began to shiver. Was she even on the road anymore? Just as panic began to rise, she heard the sounds of muffled voices.
People! Surely they could tell her where she was? Or maybe provide a little company while they waited out the fog? Yes, that sounded much more comforting than stumbling around waiting to be eaten. Following the sound of the voices, she could see the glow of light just ahead. Not wanting to give anyone a scare she decided to introduce herself.
"H-hello?! Is anyone there? I'm... lost," Kayla called out, her voice a little more plaintive than she expected. "May I approach?"
Apologies for the late start. The time difference got me. I'm in Australia.
Looking confused and realizing the party was kept together through this strange event, Bukowyr is struggling with this environment, looking around and up.
"I have yet to study many of the surface terrains and geography. Is this place still anywhere near where we were supposed to be? Is this sky still Faerûn's sky?"
With that, approaching the female companion with blue skin. Was she made of water? Was her skin slippery to the touch? Had he ever seen that kind of creature in the Underdark? At least she didn't glow in the dark like some dangerous creatures he has found.
After looking around and communicating with Nightgleam you come to the conclusion that somehow you are in a different dimension, this is not an illusion.
Hearing Kayla's call, Bukowyr rushes to her and swiftly grabs her by the hand indicating where to go, thus bringing her by the side of the blue skinned female he knows as Kai.
His alertness guiding his steps and his perception of the surroundings.
Kai's skin is slightly moist, whether that is from the fog or naturally is harder to tell but her skin is more wet than the rest in the group. Also to note, if you look close enough, the glowing fingers holding the spell are webbed and there are slight unnatural slits on the left side of her neck.
Kai finishes brushing the ice crystals off her glasses and turns to the voice (assuming they're approaching Kai's either light axe or glowing fingers). She frowns skeptically. "Are you armed? Just into view. No farther." Kai immediately distrusts everything in this new area, skeptical of any enemies.
Kayla 'eeps' as a grey hand reaches out and pulls her into the light. The demands of the genasi make her scramble to gather her thoughts into something coherent. Swallowing down her surprise, she does her best to look harmless.
"I'm Kayla and was traveling towards Telflamm from my parent's merchant caravan. Then it got all misty and I think I lost my way. When I heard voices, I headed towards them. Do you know what is going on? This fog can't be natural with how quickly it came on and how thick it is!"
Kai frowns slightly at the newcomer but drops the sacred flame, trying to see if she can control the fog again to make it easier to see in, testing it to see if it changed. "It's not normal. Keep on guard. I don't think we are where we used to be." Kai pauses for a second, studying the girl for a moment before focusing back on their surrounding. "I'm Kai." Kai hesitantly moves to gather the rest of her things from anywhere they are around the new camp (assuming Kayla and Bukowyr are following her as the light source), and urge the others to di the same.

"It's...uhm... nice to meet you?" Kayla replies, a little disconcerted. "We're not where-. Oh, no I promised my parents to send a letter by messenger when I go to the city to let them know I wasn't in any trouble. Now I am and they'll worry for sure."
Glaring down at the hand crossbow strapped at her waist the was 'innocently' quiet, she wondered if this mess was of Their manufacture. It seemed like just the kind of trouble that would lead to a jolly good smiting.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Torvus furrows his brow, a pensive look crossing his face. "No, Bukowyr. Something is... something's different. We're not on the Sword Coast anymore; I'm not sure we're even on Faerûn. We seem to have... shifted in some unusual way I don't quite understand. But this is very, very powerful magic." Fully awake now, he immediately pulls out his notebook and starts scribbling in it, oblivious to almost everything else.
"You see, the multiverse is like a vast arrangement of bubbles floating in the cosmic ether. Normally we cannot move between these bubbles. But sometimes, when two bubbles touch in just the right way at just the right moment, the places on the edges can bleed into each other. A connection, however brief." The quill moves furiously across the page, sketching out diagrams and arcane symbols as he tries to remember all this for later.
"Does that make sense?" He holds up the page to Bukowyr for a moment but only barely stops before snatching it back and continuing to scribble.
"I didn't think such a thing was possible spontaneously! Barovia, that figure said?" He ponders what he's heard about this strange place.
(OOC: Torvus reflects on his knowledge of Barovia and where he might have heard of it before: 9.)
Torvus moves next to Kai, his eyes not looking up from the page as he continues writing down notes. "Don't kill them, whoever they are! I need everything alive and intact so I can finish getting the anatomical specimens of this place accurately captured!"
Everyone's belongings are widely spread as a result of the fog episode, even those of Kai who wasn't near to your group before this happened.
The landscape is completely different than before and with the withdrawal of the fog (it still lingers but now at a more natural pace and consistency) you notice black pools of water standing like dark mirrors in and around a muddy roadway that couldn't be more than 10 ft from you. Giant trees loom on both sides of the road, their branches clawing at the mist.
Kayla's eyes go round. Anatomical specimens! If he tried, then maybe she'd try out the smiting thing. An opportunity hadn't come up yet but she hoped to delay it as long as possible. It would probably just encourage Them. Being alone in this horrid mist sounded unpleasant, too and the others seemed pleasant enough.
This 'Barovia' business, though, worried her. She was just getting a hang of her magic and history hadn't been her best subject. Kayla preferred to experience life rather than read about it but she was rather regretting that now. Perhaps Torvus could explain? Assuming he didn't try his hand at vivisection...
Anyway, if they had somehow plane shifted, what an opportunity! Who knew first adventures could be so grand. Maybe her parents would forgive the lack of a letter?
