As we move towards the statues,(If we've decided to do so) Benito would like to inspect the heads of the statues that have fallen, to hopefully gauge the age of the statue and to see if there's anything special about them. (OOC - if anyone else would like to give this a go as well... Benito is not the most perceptive / investigative individual lol)
If Torvus relays the information that it seems safe to venture forth, Benito suggests we keep moving as to not stay still for too long. "The cold will settle quicker on our bones should we stand still for too long. I believe we should press forward if Torvus agrees that the risk is minimal"
Torvus nods. "The road ahead looks clear. It continues on the other side of this gate. Nothing of note on top of the gates themselves as far as Nightgleam can see."
Watching the clumsy Goliath not knowing where to look at or how to use his inept touch to delicate and small details or even where to look at, Bukowyr approaches and starts to cautiously inspect the heads first and then as far as he can see of the bodies of the statues.
As you (the group) moves closer to the gate see how the woods extend behind them and the road looks pretty much the same. You'll notice Benito stopping to look at the severed heads of the statues laying on the ground but he just shrugs without reaching any important conclusion.
The mist is no longer affecting your eyesight but it does make it hard to determine what time of the day it is right now.
Once the last of you go through the gates they immediately shut screeching as the hinges move.
Towering trees, whose tops are lost in heavy gray mist, block out all but a death-gray light. The tree trunks are unnaturally close to one another, and the woods have the silence of a forgotten grave, yet exude the feeling of an unvoiced scream.
Kai:
You catch the scent of death on the air.
Note:
(I'm considering your passive perception, so is not necessary to keep rolling perception :P unless of course you want to get more information about something specific, for general and surroundings I'll be considering most of the times your PP)
Kai frowns as she smells the air and raises her hand slightly to stop the group following after her. She looks around for a moment before speaking in a hushed tone to everyone. "I fear we are not safe even here. Something died here recently. Be on guard. It's best to keep moving forward." Kai, leading the way with her glowing axe, holds a spell in her free hand, her fingertips glowing aqua green defensively as the group pushes forward carefully. Kai keeps on the lookout for anything that may be the cause of the fowl stench, and Hope's her words have inspired the others to keep a sharp eye as well.

The foul scent leads you to a human corpse half-buried in the underbrush about fifteen feet from the road. The young man appears to be a commoner. His muddy clothes are torn and raked with claw marks. Crows have been at the body, which is surrounded by the paw prints. The man has obviously been dead for several days. He holds a crumpled envelope in one hand.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kai frowns as she uncovers the body, gagging slightly. "Well that's pleasant isn't it?" She will study the body for a moment before carefully taking the envelope out of their hands, checking the body for anything else that may be useful to her or the others. She scans the body for any symbols or branding as well as the cause of death while the others wait nearby.
Medicine: 11
Perception: 6
Investigation: 6
The sight and smell of the decaying corpse immediately causes Kai's skin to crawl and she retracts her hands as quickly as she attempted to rummage around the corpses pockets, the envelope tightly clutched in her hands. She subjects to just looking over the body quietly for anything or interest rather than touching the corpse.
It's fairly noticeable that he was killed on the road by beasts. But for unknown reasons the body was not completely eaten by the animal that killed him.
The letter in the dead man's hand has a large “B” set into its wax seal. The parchment is worn and flimsy.
Kai will quickly bring out her notebook, do a quick sketch of the seal and any markings on the envelope before moving to open it warily and carefully to read its contents in the light of her axe, taking a few steps back from the rotting corpse.
As she reads over it, she frowns in thought and offers it to the others to look at while she checks around for anything else in the area. Before speaking hushly. "We should keep moving. We don't want to run into the beasts that killed this guy. Feel free to check him quickly if you want. Someone sent this letter. That means there's some kind of civilization around here. If not just a house."
Once everyone is done reading the note, she will stow it into her pack. She will wait fofor everyone to finish what they want to do here (assuming someone wants to make a better investigation check) before starting to lead the way further and alertly.
(ooc - Assuming that Kai shares the contents of the letter with the group)
"I dont know how you all feel about this, but it has been my life's purpose to exterminate monsters such as these from our world. I can only thank the powers that may be that led us to this letter. I assume this corpse was a messenger? Maybe we can track down the author of the letter and offer some hope in this seemingly accursed land"
Benito, now realizing that there are vampyrs in this land, would like to inspect the corpse to see if he can identify the animal/beast that killed the person.
investigation: 10 or survival: 5 (ooc - to identify the animal, idk if you'd want investigation or survival)
Kai looks to Benito and looks him over. "I'm not against eliminating creatures for a good cause, but should we really risk our lives in an unknown land so quickly? We should acquire more information first."

"You're right. I can be over zealous at times when it comes to hunting monsters." Benito concedes to Kai.. "Maybe by following the road it will lead us to a town?"
Kai nods and smiles at Benito. "That is the hope yeah. We should continue."
Once everyone is done looting and such (assuming you'll post that roll in your next response) Kai will begin leading the way farther down the path, recasting light on her axe when needed, keeping a close eye on everything around them.

She had seen death growing up. Bandits, the odd monster... life was never safe for a merchant caravan but seeing this poor soul left to rot bothered her. As for the letter, it seemed a little too convenient. Still, if his troubles were true then it made sense to help.
"I agree following the road is our best hope of finding a town or village where they can tell us where this Kolyan Indrovitch is. He seems to be an official of some kind to sign the letter with a seal," Kayla considers.
Kai will lead the group farther along the road, her axe lighting the way for the rest to follow. She keeps a look out for anything around them, specifically enemies or civilization.
(Anyone who still wanted to investigate the body, feel free to. Just trying to push us along a little. )

Giving the letter one last look, Kayla follows Kai. With one death staining the grounds already, it was not a place to linger. Besides, they now had a goal!

Torvus shakes his head sadly but doesn't seem too surprised; this isn't a welcoming place, and here is further proof.
"This fellow seems young but determined to have left this letter here. A warning?" He makes a search(OOC: 17) of the body and also tries to understand what kind of creature might have done this (OOC: 9).
Years of hunting in the Underdark made Bukowyr aware of his surroundings so to find passages in strange angles or behind crevices in caverns' walls. His diminutive size made him fast and comfortable taking strange turns. From the other side of the gate and ahead in the road, he saw his companions messing with the corpse and taking something they were looking at. Waiting patiently between the trees, he kept looking at them wondering what was taking them so long to move.

You noticed the mark of paws in the dirt and wounds made by claws. You can certainly reach the conclusion that this was caused by a Wolf, however, a big one, considering the size of the paws and claw marks.

At the distance all you can hear a lone wolf howl far off in the forest.

(If I read correctly none of you decide to wait there or linger any longer. It'll take you approximately 30 minutes to exit the woods, and see at the distance a village.)
