Torvus arches an eyebrow in surprise. "Um. Well, then." He scans the chest and the books with his magical sight, and if Bukowyr gives the all-clear, he'll read a few pages and try to recall what he knows (22) about the rituals of Osybus. "It's a good thing we have your keen eyes, Kai!"
He carefully examines (7) the chest and the skeleton and peeks inside. (Does this look like a recent death? Does it resemble anyone in Rose and Thorn's family?)
Kai yelps in a slight panic as the secret door is revealed and she peers into the room. "Uh.... Guys? There's a room here with a skeleton. Bukowyr? Wanna check this for traps?"
As Kai glances at the books from a distance, she will try to recall anything about the rituals or Osybus.

After she looks them over, she will return to searching the desk.
(Anything from my previous Investigation of the desk?)
(Kai's temple also is the worst apparently. XD Not like she liked it there anyway.)
Oh! I forgot about the desk - The desk drawer is empty except for an iron key

It'll take you a while to go through all the information described in the books, but you can carry the ones that look most relevant to you. (the check is good, but consider that you are going through a lot of information - I'll let you know the outcome after a while)
Close inspection reveals that the skeleton belongs to a human who triggered a poisoned dart trap (Not idea of how long has the skeleton been in the room though) Three darts are stuck in the dead adventurer’s armor and ribcage. Clutched in the skeleton’s left hand is a letter bearing a seal depicting castle behind a raven
, which the adventurer tried to remove from the chest. Written in flowing script, the letter reads as follows:
My most pathetic servant,
I am not a messiah sent to you by the Dark Powers of this land. I have not come to lead you on a path to immortality. However many souls you have bled on your hidden altar, however many visitors you have tortured in your dungeon, know that you are not the ones who brought me to this beautiful land. You are but worms writhing in my earth.
You say that you are cursed, your fortunes spent. You abandoned love for madness, took solace in the bosom of another woman, and sired a stillborn son. Cursed by darkness? Of that I have no doubt. Save you from your wretchedness? I think not. I much prefer you as you are.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kai will inspect the key and with a soft hum, she'll tie it onto her pouch with a small string. She will then return to the secret door, sketching it on her map and watching the other look over the room, trying to determine the cause of death of the skeleton from a distance.

Kai will sketch any symbols she sees on the note or chest, as well as making a few notes on her map.
After a moment, making sure everyone is clear from the range of the chest, Kai will head over, stand to the side, and open the lid to the chest, expecting another dart.
Once opened, she will inspect its contents and try to identify the location of the trap.
(Kai will only open the chest if everyone is out of range of it, meaning in a general 5-10 ft cone from the front.)

(Kai will only open the chest if everyone is out of range of it, meaning in a general 5-10 ft cone from the front.)
By opening the chest you can tell that the dart-firing mechanism inside the chest no longer functions.
The chest contains three blank books with black leather covers, three spell scrolls, the deed to the house, the deed to a windmill, and a signed will. The will is signed by Gustav and Elisabeth Durst and bequeathes the house, the windmill, and all other family property to Rosavalda and Thornboldt Durst in the event of their parents’ deaths.
Kai will quietly inspect the books and spell scrolls curiously, determining what they are, also considering her need for a new notebook. She will sit on the floor next to the chest, putting the dead and wills next to her on the floor for the others to look at.
She will speak to the other spellcasters as she looks over the scrolls. "Anyone need a new blank book? Or one of these spells?"
(Does Kai know if they leave the house if these things will rot like the other items of the house?)

Kai hums happily and informs the others of the spell scrolls. "Does anyone want one of these specifically? I know all of these, but some I am not powerful enough yet to use. Maybe the scrolls will help with that?" Kai gathers all of the chest contents into an organized circle for the others to look through.
Dm:
Seeing as these are all (at least) cleric spells, can they only be used by those who have the spell eventually available to them? Or can they be used by the other spell casters? Sorry for the questions, I'm not used to the mechanics of spell scrolls.
From behind Kai, she has a good view of the letter. Was everything about this place drowned in blood and misery?
"Dread lord and Master?" Kayla sighs with thinly veiled disgust. "You can't tell me that's good news! What kind of person calls himself that, even in correspondence? The people he addressed, though, sound just as awful. What altar does the letter mean, I wonder. Somehow it has to tie into the 'monster'. Perhaps the monster was the means of sacrifice but the letter implies the use of a knife... and torture. Far too many coincidences for it to be a completely separate peril, though."
Privately, Kayla wondered just why the cult had thought this 'Strahd' person would lead them to immortality. He was no god, apparently. Also, who were these 'Dark Powers'? Kayla tried to dredge from memory any magical lore she can recall about Strahd von Zarovitch or the Dark Powers.
Noticing the deed, the will and letter Kai has drawn attention to, Bukowyr considers a few things regarding what has been found until now. "Earlier, another letter was handed to us, right? Can anyone compare the names signed on both of them? Also the handwriting." Considering his next words with a finger on his lips, Bukowyr rests his eyes upon the deed and the will. "Illusionary children can't inherit properties, can they? Even here in this strange place. Could we turn the windmill into something profitable? What about this house?"

Spell Scroll mechanics:
If the spell is on your class’s spell list, you can read the scroll and cast its spell without providing any material components. Otherwise, the scroll is unintelligible. Casting the spell by reading the scroll requires the spell’s normal casting time. Once the spell is cast, the words on the scroll fade, and it crumbles to dust. If the casting is interrupted, the scroll is not lost.
If the spell is on your class’s spell list but of a higher level than you can normally cast, you must make an ability check using your spellcasting ability to determine whether you cast it successfully. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. On a failed check, the spell disappears from the scroll with no other effect.
The level of the spell on the scroll determines the spell’s saving throw DC and attack bonus, as well as the scroll’s rarity, as shown in the Spell Scroll table.
From behind Kai, she has a good view of the letter. Was everything about this place drowned in blood and misery?
"Dread lord and Master?" Kayla sighs with thinly veiled disgust. "You can't tell me that's good news! What kind of person calls himself that, even in correspondence? You've never heard a thing from Strahd Von Zarovich nor Barovian "Dark Powers" They do sound a lot related to necromancy though... But you do recall the silhouette that appeared during the event with the fog and the fog itself, unusually cold to the touch, dense and dark.
"That's a clever idea with the windmill," Kayla replies to the deep gnome. "It might be risky with such connections to greater, possibly necromantic, powers, so we should be careful. That shape that appeared when the fog came it was not natural. It held a chill that could only come from the grave."
Kai frowns at Bukowyr's words. "Perhaps the children are not entirely illusionary? And these deeds may come in handy if we need a place to stay?" After a short consideration of the spell scrolls, Kai will pocket the spiritual weapon one along with one of the blank books before handing the protect from poison to Bukowyr and the Bless scroll to Benito. "These will be best in you two's hands. I'll hold on to this one for later." She will offer the letter to whoever wants to inspect it with the other one and neatly roll up the wills, also tucking then away protectively in her bag for now. She will hand the extra blank books to Torvus and Kayla if they want them before moving to look around the bookshelves, seeing if there is anything else to be found in the room.
She will absentmindedly talk to the group as she looks around. "There's another room, floor, and basement we haven't investigated yet. There is definantly something darker happening here. We should continue to investigate."

Everyone:
I distributed everything to who I thought would use it best. Spiritual weapon is a cleric only spell (given to Kai) Bless is a cleric (Kai already can use) and a Palidin spell (given to Benito the Paladin) and Protect from poison is a cleric, paladin, and ranger spell (given to Ranger Bukowyr). The books were given to the spell casters (Kai, Torvus, and Kayla). As for the letter, Torvus's intellectual mind can compare the two. The wills for now are in Kai's hands unless someone says otherwise?
Just clarifying. I do not want to seem controlling. XD. Anyone can say otherwise to the distribution.

"Oh, thank you, Kai, but this tome might be better suited to our wizard. My magic... it's- ah- well, a little odd? Not learned, I mean to say!" Kayla awkwardly tries to explain. "Warlocks figure it out as they go."
Sometimes she wishes she listened to her mother when she said she needed to pay more attention to her studies. Maybe it would be easier if she'd asked for a proper apprenticeship with a wizard instead of chasing tales. For a moment she tried to imagine the quiet simplicity of a spellbook that didn't talk back, unlike certain Patrons. As if from a great distance she thought she heard a disapproving hiss and something that sounded like... a blown raspberry? Purposefully ignoring the commentary from the blade gallery, Kayla then hands the tome to the wizard.

Kai shrugs and smiles. "Suit yourself. But I never said they had to be specifically used for magic. I'm sure Torvus has plenty of extra books now though. I'm figuring it out too myself. Divine magic I mean. So I understand. Finding yourself and your source and all that."
After giving the hidden room and study room one more look over (perception above) she will move out of the study and head to the south room, carefully stepping to the side as she opens the door to avoid any traps before peering in and stepping inside to look around in here for anything of interest or suspicion. "So, are we still trying to find the basement entrance here or shall we move on to where I advanced for the look out earlier? This house may be our provisory headquarter, yes lady Kai. But I doubt it would be a very safe one until we get rid of whatever beast is inside. It would please me greatly to overcome that challenge and conquer this place once and for all. The windmill is definitely going to be a great asset to our goals. Would we really manage having two properties? At least one of them may hold the possibility of profit to be made."
