Baconoid catches up and witnesses the struggle. He reaches over his pack, and it looks like he is about to draw a weapon. Instead, he whips out his lute, and begins to sing.
"Pull, jump, reach, grab, up, out, ho!" he sings and repeats as he strums, using his Bardic Inspiration on Clipclop.
The sand Ignus throws under Clipclops feet does little to help, but holding onto the surprised kenku offers him some extra support. This, along with the melody and rhythm from Baconoid, calms Clipclop enough for him to pull back and find better footing some distance away.
Clipclop’s disturbance to the layer of sand reveals a large, rounded area – a pool, of a dark substance.
"Well. That's an interesting turn of events. I can't imagine it would be wise to.." Rutah moves forward and pokes the pool with his walking stick somewhat aggressively.
The substance is almost like tar. It's thick and sticky. As Rutah pushes the stick into the pool it becomes stuck and it will require effort to pull it back out.

Ignus takes a step back as Rutah pokes at the pool. He watches closely for any interactions and opens his arcane senses for any energies coming from the substance...
Investigation/arcana check (I have the same bonus): 25
As Rutah attempts to pull it out, Ignus casts Mage Hand again and offers a...well, hand. Ignus himself stays a safe distance away as he continues studying the pool.
Ignus does not sense any magic from the pool. Rutah tugs on the stick, and it takes him two attempts, but the stick comes free. Although the end is covered in the sticky substance.
"Ugh. Well this won't do." Rutah tosses his walking stick to the side "Well, I'd say its a good thing our feathered friend here didn't get stuck in that.. Shall we?" Rutah carefully moves forward walking around the pool and keeping an eye on the ground before him.
"This may not be wise," Ignus says as a ball of flame appears in his hand, "but should we see if we can burn it away? Who knows what might lie beneath?"

Stepping closer to the tar like substance, Dreel will inhale deeply, sniffing at the substance and seeing if he can glean anything from how it smells. Of note to the others, as Dreel sniffs, he snorts like a pig each time he heavily inhales.
Continuing past the pool, Rutah looks at the passage in front of them. Apart from the newly revealed dark pool, the ground of the passage is still rather flat and golden with a thick layer of sand. However, further along, the layer of sand slowly thins, until it vanishes completely. The barren, flat ground becomes more uneven and there is a scattering of plants that peek out of the ground. Much further in the distance Rutah notices a thin fog between a few narrow trees.
As Ignus holds up the flame in his palm, Clipclop quickly shoots an eldritch blast in to the pool. The beam of energy almost sizzles out before hitting the surface. However, it does hit, making a crevice in the middle of the pool that quickly closes up. The fumes that escape interact with the fire in Ignus’s hand, fuelling it and making it slightly unstable for a short moment.
Jaylen
It’s not completely natural. It seems like the ground itself was corrupted by something.
Dreel
As Dreel sniffs at the air around the pool, the first thing he notes is the smell of the mud, high in humus. However, the next moment he smells decay and rot; a corruption to the soil underneath. [roll Intelligence Check - can be history or arcana, if you want to try and figure out what it is]
"This is not entirely natural. It bears signs of corruption. As if the very earth itself was defiled in some way. Tread carefully friends. And I would not ignite it if I were you. I cannot predict how it would react, but imagine the resulting conflagration would unpleasant, cosmic, and possibly harmful. Let us be on our way. Cautiously." Jaylen then does his best to slowly circumnavigate the substance and continue on their path.

Snorting out in disgust, Dreel stands up, announcing "Never dealt with it directly, but seems this is blight. So, that's a thing I suppose." The large blood hunter moving around the edge of the pool and advancing with the others.
Rutah begins to remove his head wrap. "Ah, finally some reprieve from the blasted sands." Looking back at the group he says, "Looks like we have a nice fog rolling in from the trees ahead." After removing his head wrap he continues forward, aiming to stop at the fog's edge.
