Hertle calls out as you leave, "Rindal's home is behind the smith. West end of town!"
Walking out of the town hall and back to the town square you start to notice things that didn't stand out before. Manalith is a small town, couldn't house more then 1000 residents at most. Yet, the size of it all, it is imply so.. grand. Even the methods used to restore what was once ruins, you aren't sure how it could have come together with such a small effort in the time is has been discovered. Those runes seem to be carved into everything from the path you walk on to door frames and even some shop signs. None of them are lit though, it seems the flow of arcane has basically disappeared.
(OOC: At this point everyone can introduce themselves to each other. If there is something you'd like to observe within the town during your short trip to Rindal's home please say so. I will continue once everyone has posted and all actions have been completed with the group reaching Rindal's home.)
As they all make their way across town, Tine looks around eagerly. He stops to peer down alleys, peek into shop windows, and crane his neck back to search rooftops. (Investigation check: 10 )
"Since it seems we'll be working closely here, it occurs to me we should get to know each other a bit. I am Tine, son of a great fire djinn who I have never met," Tine looks off into the distance at nothing in particular. "My bloodline has fueled my search for information. Great information, about the cosmos, the planes, and about all of our existence. Whatever is happening here in Manalith houses some dark, powerful secrets. Secrets I aim to unlock."
"I hope you find what you're searching for," replies Velten. "There are many mysteries in this world and we have one here, right at our feet."
Thinking some people of Manalith could be at the root of the problem, Velten studies the faces of the townsfolk to see if there are any that look suspicious.
Perception: 14
"I'm Velten, once noble and now banished by my people. Funny I find this life more intriguing however." He laughs heartily, "Manalith was supposed to be a pioneer in technology and a culture so inviting and unique, anyone could make a home here. Alas, here we are."
I think I'll leave time for the other 2 to reply before posting again, sorry if we are moving to quickly with the 2 day posting limit.
The older half-orc walking with you now speaks up. "I am Mundak. I am a simple man without any complex aspirations. I have had some difficulties in my life and now I am trying to cope with them by lending my help where it is needed."
"I am Vosnin Emberlight, of the Emberlight clan from the hills to the north. Weapon crafters and miners in those hills. But I grew tired of the darkness and hill life so I left. And Tine, I fell the same thirst to know more, though being lied to right off the bat does not bode well for my gut feelings."Vosnin takes a look around making sure they are not being followed.
As you venture onward through the streets of Manalith you hear a steady beat of a hammer hitting metal. It is somewhat distant but you know that is where you are heading to next. Nearing your destination you see a dwarven smith working on an anvil hammering out what looks to be a hunter's axe head. His shop is shadowed by a towering homestead that extends well above the blacksmith's shop. Standing roughly 30 feet in height, you gather this must be Rindal's home.
TIne - Perception
You take note of the ample machinations that are inactive throughout the town. Some look like golems and others like simple wagons you can only imagine helped their owners carry large amounts of trade goods without the need of a leading steed to pull it onward.
Velten - Perception
Looking around for suspicious folk, all you're met with are sullen distant gazes. It seems a lot of people here were so used to the help of their enchanted goods that they have forgotten how to live like everyone else. Almost as though without their machinations they see no more purpose in anything.
Vosnin - Perception
Your group does gather a few curious glaces and glints of hope flash over some faces. No one seems to be following you save for two children, you can estimate them to be under 10 years old. They seem curious above all else, staring at Tine. You can gather they must believe a being of living flame should not be able to exist in such a place where all things magic have extinguished.
Vosnin announces himself to the dwarven smith. "Hail and well met." Vosnin will take a look over the axe head he is forging. "Mighty fine axe head there. I am a smith myself." Vosnin will show him his warhammer, which is more like an oversized smithing hammer. "We're looking for Rindal."
The dwarven smith slows his hammering, giving a satisfying look at the completed axe head, he quenches it in a barrel next to his work station. "Ohaha, function over design I see!" He says as he looks over Vosnin's hammer. "I do love that work. I do appreciate a man of the trade coming by. If you ask me, people here have grown a bit soft depending too much on their magics haha." It is at this point you notice unlike every other aspect of Manalith, the smith's entire faciity is lacking in even a single magical rune. The dwarf removes a heavy leather glove from his right hand and extends it forward to Vosnin, "I am Grulen, forgemaster here in Manalith. If it is Rindal you seek I wish you best of luck. I have not seen him leave his estate for quite some time, and from what I've heard he is not in the friendliest state of mind etiher." Grulen seems to be a kind dwarf, despite his long braided beard covering his face it isn't hard to notice a beaming smile hidden beneath the soot covered hair.
Investigation: Tine
You do a quick look around the base of the building you believe to be Rindal's estate. It seems very basic in structure, similar runes cover the door frame as the ones you had seen on other doors before. The windows too have runes around their frames, each window has shutters which have been closed.
Vosnin gives Grulen a knowing nod when he mentions the dependence on magic. Vosnin sticks his hand out and gives Grulen a hearty hand shake. "Vosnin Emberlight and company. Just arrived in town today. Hertle hired us to figure out why the magic is losing its power. We have a feeling Rindal may have something to do with it judging by the history here."
"I can't recall the last time Rindal was approached, maybe a few days ago? At this point we are just making sure the old man is still breathing. So far, he has always responded to a quick knock on his door by yelling out at whomever is there to leave him alone, and so that's what we do. It doesn't surprise me you're interested in finding out any connection he may have with.." Grulen gestures vaguely, "..this. However, I can honestly say that if he was the one causing it all then he sure goes about it quietly. I haven't heard even a stir coming from his home. Speaking of which, that is his house there, behind my shop. I don't know why but he requested it specifically even though it would be right by my forge. I did warn him about the constant sound but I suppose it never bothered him. If he is in fact upset, I would say it was his ban from the dig site." Rindal slowly begins refitting his leather gloves back on his hands, "Now, if you'll excuse me, I do have work to do hahaha, musn't forget, right? Good honest work is the best kind of work."
"Thank you kindly, Grulen. We appreciate the information," Tine turns to the group as Grulen goes back to his work. "Perhaps Rindal is using the general noise coming from Grulen's forge to mask his own doings. I don't think his choice of location was random. With that said...are we going to knock on his door?"
"Good work indeed, thank you for your time," Velten says while nodding to the dwarf.
After pondering Tine's hypotheses he looks to him and lifts his hand in question, "There's not much else we can really do is there? Perhaps if we approach his door and ask to listen to his side of the story we can open him up a little. No harm in trying anyways."
Mundak starts to wander toward the door, and while some of his companions make sure everyone is ready to visit Rindal he knocks three times on the door. "Hello? Rindal? Can you spare a moment to talk to us?"
Grulen looks up from his work for a few moments, "The dig site.. you've heard of it, no? It is where the remnants of the old Manalith lie. A crew works there trying to recover lost artifacts and knowledge of what Manalith once was. They haven't uncovered too much recently, but this town wouldn't be where it is now if not for the early texts and manuscripts found originally."
As you all circle around to the front of Rindal's home you notice it is quiet, and aside from the blacksmith's hammering, no noises can be heard from within. Mundak approaches the front steps and knocks. *thump* thump* *thump*
A voice cries out, "GET AWAY FROM HERE! LEAVE ME ALONE!" It is definitely loud but not booming. The voice sounds somewhat crazed, and raspy.
"Did you say help, citizen? Come in because you have fallen?" Vosnin tries to let his voice travel so if there are people around, they hear. Vosnin looks at the others, "Break it down?"

"Yes!" Velten laughs as he moves to stand by his new companions, "we have heard Rindal is quite the character."
Velten looks at the sealed house briefly.
"What do you think has upset Rindal like this, it couldn't just be the loss of magic here, could it?" He asks, prodding for answers.
