"Where did he take the Beacon? We can try to reclaim it. In fact, while I can't tell you who sent us, know that we were sent here to recover it and make sure that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.."
"To Chilton, where else... and I think I can slow him down... The Baron will only tell the Duke about what he has done once he is positive that he can use the Beacon's power... and I think I will be able to... block him from doing it. And I have a very old house in Chilton, which no ody will remember is mine... So if we sneak in, I will be able to buy us time, so that you can, somehow, retrieve the beacon. Can you do it?" The Monk asks, with small hope in his voice.
„I dont know what amount of skill will be required, but i assure you we are not your every day wanderer.“ says ferdinand and pats the monk on the shoulder.
Dihek'nir looks over his shoulder at the old man, "Sounds good. Did you guys have a hidden cellar full of magic items or gold or some other cool stuff here that would still be intact?"
He smiles, "If you do and we don't take that stuff with us, someone else will surely come along very very soon and loot everything even remotely valuable."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After the monk talks about possible items, ferdinand would like to make an insight check to determine if he is telling the truth or hiding information about items or information in general: 9
"We had a lot of items of great value, but I doubt you would assign the same price to them as we did. I mean books, parchments and other documents, which studied the history of the Church of Light. We did have precious metals and ceremonial items worth a few coins, of course, but they are" He gestures around "Mostly under water. You can look for them, of course, but I believe stopping the baron and, effectively, saving the world is considerably more important, don't you agree?"
Then, thinking some more:
"My name is Brother Girael. I hope we will succeed together. Now, as for Chilton, going in will not be a problem, and if I take off my robes, nobody will know there were survivors here. Then, if we go into my house, thankfully with my old key not having rusted yet, we will have safe refuge. From there, I will use my magic, however weak it may have become in my old age, so that the link between me and the Beacon helps us disallow others to use it. This will, likely, save several days for us, during which you will have a chance to somehow retrieve it. Does that sound like a plan?"
Bazhak is the first to respond from your group:
"That does seem like a good plan. But I think someone must warn the Rear Ad... I mean... Whoever hired us... So that he... or she... is informed well about what is going on. I know that the Royal N... I mean our benefactor's forces... if he... or she... has any, cannot intervene... for whatever the reason may be, but still, we must warn him... or her. I believe I am the most athletic one here, so I will run back to... wherever our benefactor is, and transfer this information".
With this, Bazhak departs back to Needham Harbor. Brother Girael is slightly confused, but turns to the remaining ones of you and says.
"Anyway... I, thankfully, have a map of Chilton with some landmarks of the town. here it is:"
As Bazhak departs, Ferdinand shouts after him: „wait, friend! There is magic for that!“ He writes down what had happened with the monastery amd the beacon and hads the note to herring as he appears when ferdinand snaps his finger. „Would you please bring this to our contractor.“
"With all due respect, my friend, such matters need to be handled personally" Bazhak says and disappears over a hill. Herring, confused, returns to Ferdinand.
Having rested, and allowing for the monk to change into a foraged set of civilian clothing, the party leaves the desolated ruins of Longridge Monastery. After a couple of hours of walking, they reach Chilton.
The town is by no means large. It likely houses a couple thousand denizens, so cannot compare to Kirkleigh, or any other cities the Void Skipper has visited on its journeys. It is circumnavigated by a wooden palisade, with barely any fortifications. The odd guard tower here and there serves as merely a watch post and would likely be entirely useless should there be an assault on the walls. However, you are reminded, that Chilton is not near any land border, and the wooden wall is most likely there to deter wildlife more than to protect against an army.
There seem to be three paths leading into the town. The gates are open ajar and the local guards don't really seem interested in vetting those going in and out. As a result, you walk in unmolested. Brother Girael takes you to an abandoned-looking house in the north-eastern part of the town.
"This was my home, before I joined the Monastery. The neighbors that knew me are likely all dead by now, it has been over thirty years, so the chance of discovery is effectively none. Though, if anyone asks, we should have a story of who we are. I recommend we say that we either bought or inherited the house, or something like that".
With this, he puts the key in the rusted lock and, after several futile attempts, finally manages to open the door. The house is very dusty and dirty, but, with some attention and maybe a little investment, you can live within. Brother Girael goes forward, enters a room that once likely served as a pantry and opens a trap door, which leads to a small basement. He says:
"I will place myself here. My prayers and meditation, which I need for my magic to work properly, require silence and solitude. Additionally, I think that if we take too long and the baron's men start trying to find us, me being underground will work to our advantage. We have precious little time, though we should still devote a little of it to making this place more liveable..."
Finally, he turns to you all:
"I don't know how you plan on taking the Beacon of Light from the Baron. Assaulting the Thornhall, his fort, is not an option, as he has dozens of men. So, I recommend you use the map I gave you and try and either earn someone's favor, or gather allies, so that we have a chance. Also, please go to the Oak Market, the only bazaar in town, and purchase some cleaning supplies and fresh food. I will be tidying the basement first, so that I can start my work as soon as possible".
The winds swells and Ferdinand feels like singing as he uses magic to tidy up the house. Unfortunately, when he's done and the dust settles... It still settles inside, as well as on the heads of the party and the Monk, who growls:
"There is nothing wrong with using your hands to tidy up the house. You could do that magic of yours if we opened the doors and you buffeted the dust outside, but that would attract unwanted attention. So my recommendation stands - You should buy cleaning supplies from the market".
With this, he returns to meticulously trying to tidy up the basement.
Dihek'nir says, "Brother Girael, I have the ability to locate an object. For this I need to either have seen it or have a really good description. You don't happen to have the ability to create an illusory replica so I could see it myself, do you? If not then lets go over the description and I'll see if it works. I figure that we should start with trying to locate it first and then assess our options of getting to it."
Brother Girael Listens to Diheknir, while tidying up the basement and, frowning, responds:
"I have no powers of illusion, but I can certainly describe the Beacon. It is made of Gold, with slight light emanating from it. It is long, roughly eight inches, with its ends being rounded, and a narrower neck connecting the two ends to a slightly bulkier middle. And the middle is... I suppose "ribbed" is a good word".
He finishes describing the Beacon. It is eerily familiar to you all.
OOC: Dihek'nir can either make a history check, or Winenose can make a guess, what the Beacon reminds him of.
„ I had the suspicion. A friend of ours, had left us to stop a great danger. When he came back he only did so for a moment but left us an object similar to tje one you described. Actually it would look the exact same“
"In the middle part, yes... But wait, how is that possible? There are only three beacons, one was entrusted to us, the second was hidden, and the third cast away from the world, so that nobody would ever use all three of them together... By Light, that would have been horrible... Did you find the second, lost one?"

"Any questions or prepositions before we depart?"

"Nah, let's get on with it." Bala yawns, holding up his new bow. "I wanna try this thing out, pronto."
From what i've heard, you will be able to try it out in the temple, about a mile west from chiron.
Dihek'nir studies the map. "From which side would we be approaching the town and whereabouts is your house?"
"Also, what temple, what? There's a temple system around here that needs clearing?"
"Well i told you about my new friend yestersday evening. The man told me that he could help us if we pay the temple a visit."
"If the temple is not out of the way, let us pay a visit. We are short handed now."

Ferdinand repeatetly casts prestidigitation and tries to get rid of most of the dust with the wind effect.
